Well, the Mormons don't completely believe it''s a sin or they wouldn't own casinos or invest in them.

They don't gamble, but they provide gambling for those who do.

Also, the term "gaming" instead og gambling came into vogue in the late 1980's when casinos in Vegas were all building towers (doubling their hotel space) and had to seek financing outside of Nevada. In the West that meant Salt Lake City and knowing the Mormon bankers wouldn't be real thrilled to be openly associated with gambling the casino industry came up with a more 'palatable' term, gaming.

I believe it's some of the members doing this, not the church itself.  The church says it is a sin, but knowing their religion considers something  a sin doesn't stop some people from indulging in things that are profitable and/or pleasurable.

Molestation of children is definitely considered a sin by the Mormons.  But there've been numerous of them, even some at high levels like bishops and stake presidents, who've been arrested for child molestation in the last couple of years.

"My argument was with manzplan's assertion that in the bible, the word covetousness covers gambling.  I posted God's commandment in Exodus 20:17 to show that is not true."

Oh, I see.   So what are the religions that assert that god says gambling is a sin using to justify that belief?

I believe that the Koran speaks against gambling, while the Hindus have a gambling goddess, I believe.

As long as we're discussing belief systems, what about life in general?  I mean, isn't life itself a gamble?  I mean, 2 people somehow met (by fate?) and then had sex.  You are a result of that procreation...not later that evening or early the next morning. You aren't only the result of that moment in time, but there were millions of other little sperm buddies swimming around to knock you out of the race.

Then each day you get out of bed and beat the odds so you're not one of the approximate 2.4 million deaths every year in the United States.

(By the way, if you live in one of those states where they found the "fake" Colgate toothpaste with DEG, you might even be taking a chance brushing your teeth.  Make sure it's the real thing, folks!)

Another important factor is were those 2 people thinking GOOD or EVIL thoughts at the TIME of conception?

For example, were the 2 people MARRIED and thinking RIGHTEOUS thoughts at the time of conception, or was a CHEATING WIFE thinking, "Hurry up before my husband comes home"? Wink

Before the sperm fertilizes the egg, the embryo is a THOUGHT. It may grow to be GOOD or EVIL, depending on what it's parents think.

Arm & Hammer with Tartar contol, baking soda, and peroxide. A little more expensive, but definitely the way to go, if you want to get the wine stains off the teeth.

Yeah, that is in silver spring md. 37 seconds out of where I am in Rockville.  But you know what really bothers me, is that all this poison is coming from China.  The toothpaste is from China and last week, we lost a cAoKatiel named Manolito, he was only 6 years old!  We think it was something he ate, maybe the gluten, something on a fruit stick from Germany, they are supposedly baked three times.  When the little angel started showing symptoms we tried everything to help to no avail.  Needless to say I am sad but at the same time furious.

You people out there need to understand there are a lot of people out there that want to hurt America (it started way before Bush) and I am coming to that conclusion, without a doubt this is fact.  There are people in this country who say it isn't fair to compare us to other countries, we are bad, we are evil, BS X 20.  Wrong, you morons.  We send rice, corn, wheat, sugar, everything, money, technology, medicine, humanitarian aid, the list is long, and this is the thanks we get.  I am sick of this, f these sons of a biaches, it is time we cut off our generosity.

A lot of pets died in the past couple of months I think it is a trial run for US, don't buy Chinese, anything with made in china on it, don't buy it or use it.

It is being played down just like Harry Reids popularity rating.

Jarasan, I am so sorry you lost your little pet.  I had a Cinnamon one.  I gave her to a good family when I had to move.  It was in the middle of winter.  If you had the bird for 6 years, it must have been very upsetting to you.

I agree that the pet poisoning and, obviously, the toothpaste poisoning is to target innocent Americans.  I guess the reason why discount stores had the majority of the tainted toothpaste is because they don't necessarily purchase in quantity from the same supplier. It's not as easily traced and most people won't notice the difference.

Pac, if you like your toothpaste - great!  I don't want to turn this into a thread about which is the best toothpaste to use.  I buy Natural White at the Dollar Tree.  They have great floss too. According to Consumer Reports, some toothpastes contain more abrasives than others but for the most part, the difference between one brand and another are insignficant.

Anyway, back to the topic.  I don't justify my desire to win.  "Money don't get everything it's true.
              What it don't get I can't use.  So gimme money, that's what I want, ye-ye-yeh, That's what I want."

No, it's not just indvidual members. The Mormon church is involved in casion ownership and financing. They also own a soft drink company - althought they prefer their members not drink soft drinks, hot tea, or coffee.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

                Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

How about flouride? Forget toothpaste. This is why I only drink spring water.

They say flouride is for the teeth. Right! Teeth! Not consumption...

On pet foods....I am also sorry for your loss jarasan. At the house I live in, we have a zoo, literally. My roomate's wife started to make her own treats with wheat and the such. She stopped using store brands.

We still have the jar of peanut butter that could have been potentially poisoned. I've eaten from it twice.

Just imagine how different our stories will be to our kids when they grow up. Much different from the days of yore.

Yeah son! You thought you had it bad? I had to risk my life eating peanut butter. My pets could have been ill. You had it easy my son. Kids were being sent off to war, like a kid in the wilderness, sent away to die, never quite knowing why. Students randomly wiped out their peers with an increase of school shootings. Our "leaders" were killing the middle class, by making the rich even richer. After a long fight, all those conspiracy theorists finally had their day in court. And they were thrown out of court 10 minutes into the proceedings. People on the other side of the world wanted us wiped off the map. Fast food joints tried to kill the masses even quicker by super-sizing everything. Yes son... Meanwile.....the Saudis, oil companies, and the shareholders are swimming in money by charging outrages prices for gas.

Also my son, the weather was acting out. The sun was getting hotter. Skin cancer was rising. Floods were displacing poor people, and the government didn't act as quickly as it should have. Yeah, we had it tough back then.

Cameras were watching our every move. GPS was also used to track where you were at any given moment. I hate to tell this to you my son, but the war was an excuse for big brother to get even bigger, and form an every growing police state.

But now all that's in the past son. Since the second civil war revolution, the people have regained control, not just a selective few...lol, and you'll have a better future. So go out there and get'em boy.

LOL! In last night's episode, Hugh and his girls visited his hometown of Chicago. When the women at the Playboy Club saw Hugh Hefner,  they smiled and said, "Daddy's in town!"

I do not follow organized religion. I think most people blindly follow what their parents were taught. I think everybody should just have their own relationship with God. Believing in The Bible(a book), which is based off organized religion(which is man-made and there are so many of), is pretty much guessing at what the word of God is. Nobody can say who's religion is right or wrong. If God gave his word to the people of the past, then he can certainly give you yourself his word as well. That doesn't necessarily mean He's going to speak to you from the sky or anything like that. There will be certain ways he expresses Himself towards you.

With that said, I think it's perfectly ok to play the lottery. If I win the lottery, I will donate to charity. The amount I donate depends on the amount after taxes I win. No, manzplan, I'm not asking for divine intervention when I say that, nor can you say others are doing that as well when they do the same. They are just stating what they would do with some of the money. Those "scripts" that you read out of that book called "The Bible", which was written by a man, not God himself, will have no affect on me whatsoever. God and I will both form our own relationship and I will base my beliefs by how I live my life and the events that take place during my life.

                              Gonna win.Big Smile
