If lotteries were banned. you'd see see outrage on massive levels, yes there would finally be change. there would also be more crime in the form of illegal gambling. There would be a steamroll effect, more organized crime which will more to more drug dealing more theft more murder, being a numbers runner is a high risk occupation. isn't that what the whole gangster era of the 30's and 40's were about. Who would really lose ? the schools for one . which means a higher property tax for me the home owner. when state lotteries collect taxes from big jackpots that money goes to the general fund which supports welfare and other special interests ( the bridge to noplace ) which means they take more from our paychecks to feed everyone else, because somehow it's my responsibility to keep feeding people who can't keep their legs closed. It would be naive to think people would say "OH ,NO MORE LOTTERY I'LL INVEST IN MY FUTURE"! "I'LL SAVE FOR A RAINY DAY" "I'LL START MY KIDS COLLEGE FUND" We are a nation of gamblers in one form or another sadly we think of the easy way far to often.

Sully16, It is as you have stated! The alternatives as you paint it  is not pretty at all, so there you have it all you lottery putdowners!! and so I run to place my bets.  Thanks Sully16 it's clear to me!

forget what "they" say about youWhat you say about you?...

Now, does it count??

Okay tiggs, I did not want to tell you, but just so you know I am actively doing my research of the Kentucky Lottery.   I have all the data, and I am systematically going down a set of numbers, It is going to take a little time because I have never worked out the Kentucky Numbers before! But when I give them to you, play them all no bellyaching! and Win, then you can laugh.

The government only bans things if they're not getting a piece of the action. We don't have to worry about them banning the lottery for just that reason. It's a cash cow. People will do what they want to do one way or the other anyway, whether it's gambling or drinking alcohol. The government considered these things evil at one time and tried to outlaw them but the people gambled and drank anyway so the feds just jumped on the bandwagon and started charging us money (taxes) for the privilege of doing what we want to do. No investment - big payoff, just the way the feds like everything to be.

It's now OK to drink whiskey - as long as you pay off the feds.

It's now OK to gamble - as long as they get their cut right off the top before anybody else gets theirs.

It's really just an old, established and very profitable way of doing business. They learned it from Al Capone.

Go back to playing with "The Outfit". Never any taxes regardless of the winnings. Well, if the middle digit of a Pick 3 is 1, they pay $50 less, but still.

                          Wink

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Whar rdgrnr said here is very true.

The Pick 3 existed eons before any legalized lottery. It was known as "policy", started in the ghettos, and the bet was a nickel.

The state Pick 3 games were just clones of this game but used ping pong balls instead of the last three dollar digits of the total mutuel handle at that day's race track of choice. (The track varied so as not to invite any collussion).

As for Al Capone, boot legging, and the government, do a little research on JKK's father.
