Accused lottery killer expected to make plea in court

TAMPA, Fla. — A woman accused of killing a Lakeland, Florida, lottery winner is expected to make a plea in court Monday morning.

DeeDee Moore will appear before a judge in downtown Tampa with new representation, as her previous lawyer was removed from the case due to a conflict of interest. In March, Moore was given a new attorney from the Public Defender's office.

All along, Moore has claimed innocence in the murder of Abraham Shakespeare. She said she befriended Shakespeare after he won the lottery in 2008 so that she could write a book about him.

Detectives, however, say they have built a strong case against Moore, with money, greed, and lies leading to Shakespeare's death.

Shakespeare collected about $12.5 million in his lottery win and later disappeared. His body was found buried under a concrete slab on the property of a home in eastern Hillsborough County several months later, and investigators say Shakespeare had been shot to death.

Moore was arrested soon after.

"I have never hurt that man," Moore said in February.

"Absolutely not," she added when asked outright if she had murdered Shakespeare.

But according to investigators, Moore swindled millions of dollars from the lottery winner and has told police various stories about someone else pulling the trigger.

Since her arrest, detectives say Moore has blamed everyone from drug dealers to her then-14-year-old son for Shakespeare's murder.

Moore has been charged with first degree murder. There have been no other arrests in the case.

Geez...I'm always the first to say innocent until proven guilty....but to blame your own child for murder so that you can get off???  That's a new kind of low...even for a killer.

I agree, i have been following this story and it is a shame what people will do for money.

If convicted .......

....... Justice should be swift and severe!

Maybe she just thought that the money wasn't "fairly earned"! That kind of thinking is the impetus for the breakdown of our society! I once had a co-worker tell me that he had the "right" to come to my house and "take what I need" if he feels that I have more than him! HE WAS SERIOUS! No No

I would like to have a piece of the $266 Million Mega Millions jackpot that was recently won, but it is NOT MINE!

Best of luck to all playing the Powerball and Mega Millions. US Flag

Sounds like your co-worker was a crack head, use of hard drugs causes people to think like that.

Not just crack heads...A lot of leftists think this way.   Spread the Wealth Doncha Know...   It makes me sick people who think they are entitled to someone else's money......A lot of things have been justified by the wrongfull notion that this group of people got their wealth "wrongly" by taking it from the "Rightfull Owners".....Communists/Socialists always insite class warfare by saying the Rich (no matter how they earned their money)......STOLE their money from the People and the rightfull owners.   They love this because it gives them the power to decide who DESERVES to be RICH(usually the elite/ well connected).  Gov't has no place deciding how much someone makes or can make...IT"S NONE OF THEIR CONCERN!

I fully believe in innocent until proven guilty, and I hope if she is able to prove she did not to do it, that she goes ahead and proves that it was not her who did this, But this just reeks of cat in the bag, and I think I hear him meowing.   Idea

I Agree!   I hope this whole thing is over quickly for the sake of Mr. Shakespears family. The longer they drag this out the more the family has to relive the pain and they don't deserve to go through this mess over and over again.

I wonder if DeeDee Moore has returned any "stolen" funds to the Shakespeare Family yet?

I wonder if the judge has viewed DeeDee Moore's 'multi-million net jackpot winner" book writing preparation notes yet?

I wonder if the police have been tracking DeeDee Moore's son?Shocked

If she was already getting the money, then why kill the man?

Complete foolishness!

I guess this is a situation where logic does not apply!

CAL-LottoPlayer

This is Not Right.

The prosecutor wants to play it safe and give her a deal. She should not be allowed to take a plea deal.  If she's guilty, and I believe she is, she should be tried and given the death penalty.

This is one of those cases which cries out for the ultimate punishment, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs.

This is one of the worst cases of greed I have ever seen.  Really, I have a hard time finding a worse case.  Even Madoff didn't kill his victims (although I'm sure a few may do away with themselves or die from expensive health problems they can't afford).

DeeDee Moore Probable Cause Affidavit (21 pages)
http://www.scribd.com/doc/27162640/DeeDee-Moore-Probable-Cause-Affidavit

WOW, WOW, WOW, KONANE, this 19 pages of affidavit is an absolutely incredible saga!  I'm shocked that so many people were able to be attracted into multi ex-felon come multi-million-dollar-net lottery winner Abraham Shakespear's simple plan to avoid paying child support to a measly one child he had (and it would have only cost him perhaps a max of $2 million of his $12+ million lottery win)!

Appears that Abraham Shakespear attracted similar liars and profiters to himself:  his real estate/business creation/personal lawyer, his male cousin, his male friend whom Shakespear loaned guy's mother house buying mortgage, his female friend/driver/power-of-attorney, his child's biological mother, his non-credentialed and inexperienced female auto-biography of himself author-come-financial adviser and funneled assets recipient, an officially licensed notary public, his financial manager's boyfriend, and his financial manager's ex-husband!

And just to think that illiterate yet conniving Abraham Shakespear's body may have been uncovered soon after April of 2009 if his mother had simply called the police to report her son missing -- she sounds like an idiot for only asking his cousin to report missing in November of 2009 -- SEVEN MONTHS LATER.  And Abraham's mother even socialized with DD multiple times from April 2009-December 2010, didn't it occur to this mother 'Why does my son have conversations with DD and not me?  What an unaware family!

Several dizzing sad, sad happenings within 14 months time! Smash

Communists and Socialists make no such assertions.  Straw Man all the way.  Why don't you read and understand these social and economic systems rather than inject your political rhetoric into this message board.

The American government is a solid Capitalist economy and business friendly country.  Too business friendly at times.  When you have an industry-wide anti-trust exemption RIGHT THERE you can see what I am talking about.  There is more of that in this system...plenty more.  No-bid contracts for our most recent war fought on credit.  You want to talk elite?  Well-connected?  Back room deals like that are all too common in our government.

I'm a big fan of competing, earning massive money in a fair market, and then allocating it as one sees fit but there are undeniable inequities in this system that many right-wing people seem to gloss over in their quest to defend the UHNW's of our nation.  The middle class workers need to be fought for and no children should be without education, food, shelter, and comprehensive health insurance. Ideology doesn't help people fight for what is right, it just fights to validate itself.  There are too many ideologues in this country.

I agree, the rich should pay our way. They don't need all that money. Why should it be just them that get Cadillacs and swimming pools? That's not fair! Why should the lazy and the uneducated and the illegal aliens live at a lower standard when those who have gotten educations and worked their butts off all of their lives have lots of extra money just sitting in a bank account somewhere earning interest? I don't see how this broad could ever see the light of day again with the evidence against her as it is.

If this isn't a prime example of the love of money being the root of evil, I don't know what is.

Easy enough. Wait twenty years down the line -- she'll find Gawwd... a soft-headed governor, and clemency petitions from the usual bunch of useful idiots (the ones who stand outside prisons with their lit candles on Dirt-Nap Day.)

Strange how she says she took his money so that others wouldn't be able to take it from him (take advantage of him) and so that he wouldn't be able to buy any drugs with it. I guess he had no idea, that he was the sheep being led to a slaughter. What is more stranger than anything is that he trusted a complete stranger with his money and I haven't read an article yet, where he sought out his mother for advice on his new found wealth. His story is a prime example of the leaches we have in our society. If you win anything, you need to seek out a qualified, licensed financial planner/advised than relying on bathroom advice from friends and other associates.

Oh no, read the affidavit ... it clearly shows that Abraham Shakespeare was no "SHEEP," but rather a federal and state taxes PLUS child support payments attempted evader!

As for "Who shot Abraham Shakespeare?" -- I think it may have been: the lawyer, the lawyer's landlord, or DD -- the police and prosecution team have a lot of research to do yet ... quite a quagmire case!

The greater loss is that he was willing to give up his access to the balance of his winnings to a women he didn't know from a hole in the ground, opposed to giving money to his kids and to whatever taxes or back support that was owed. He opened this door and allowed it to take place.
