Powerball

By Todd Northrop

The winning lottery ticket for Saturday's $182.1 million Powerball jackpot was sold in a Publix store in Kissimmee, Florida, located on a road with a very fitting name.

It's at 2340 Fortune Road and someone who bought a Powerball ticket for Saturday night's drawing at that store has won a fortune.

The Quick Pick ticket won the $182.1 million jackpot. If the winner wants to take a one-time cash payment, it is $91.2 million.

In addition to the big winner, another six lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a $200,000 prize: 1 from Arizona, 2 from Georgia, 1 from Maryland, 1 from North Carolina, and 1 from Pennsylvania.

One of the second-prize tickets, from North Carolina, was purchased with the Power Play option, which has multiplied the ticket-holder's prize to a sizable $1 million.

82 tickets matched four white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Of those tickets, 12 also were purchased with the Power Play option, multiplying the prize by 5 for a total cash prize of $50,000.

The Powerball winning numbers for Saturday, February 26, were 4, 13, 17, 21, and 45, with Powerball number 10. The Power Play number was 5.

A total of 1,429,767 tickets across the USA won $195,496,247 in prizes playing "America's Game" Saturday night. 214,515 of those winning tickets were purchased with the Power Play option, which multiplied the prize by 5 Saturday.

When a Powerball ticket is purchased with the Power Play option for an extra $1 per ticket, any non-jackpot prize is multiplied from 2-5 times, depending on a computerized random number generated that evening. Second-place Power Play-enabled tickets matching five numbers but not the Powerball are always multiplied by 5 times, for a $1 million prize.

Powerball is now played in 42 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

The Powerball winning numbers are published right after every drawing at USA Mega (www.usamega.com).

Wednesday night's jackpot will be $20 million.

It looks like I need to find me a "lucky" store on an appropriately named street to buy my quick pick for the Mega Millions!  Congrats to the winner...I was hoping it would have been me, but since that is not the case, I hope the winner is a young American (but chances of that are slim since there are so many elderly and immigrant people in Florida...and before someone knocks me for being ageist and racist, my father is knocking on 80 and hails from Jamaica and my mother-in-law is 60 something and hails from Haiti).

"Got me a ticket for Mega Millions Tuesday...gonna hope that my 6 numbers will hit..............oh store clerk pick me a quick pick winner!" (Adaptation from Weird Al Yankovich's "Vanna Pick Me a Letter" hit song)

does anyone know where the official Powerball drawings take place?

Out of all the 44 United States jurisdictions where Powerball is played, the winning ticket is bought at a store about 15 minutes from where the drawings are held, very interesting.

Should there never be a winning ticket sold near where the drawing is held? For any lottery? Should the lotteries not sell tickets at all within say 30 miles of where the drawing takes place?

Much ado over nothing.

yes, of course, ticket sales should be band within a 30 mile radius of where the drawing takes place, that is exactly what I was advocating. You summed up my position so well. From what I wrote, I don't know how anyone could come up with any other conclusion.

Not so sure that there is any logic in this post .............. 31 miles would ensure what ?

Yikes .................... a conspiracy !   Eek

A Quick Pick ticket. I think thats the best way to play. A bunch of quick picks unless you're playing a game that has not so high odds such as pick 3 or pick 4 or cash 5.

I'm going to play 9 lines to tomorrows megamillions. Wish me luck :)

Why exactly do you think sells of lottery tickets should be banned if they're within a certain distance from the drawing? What makes 40 okay and 30 not? Or even 35?

To me a ticket sold 20 yards from the drawing location is just as valid as a ticket sold 1,000 miles away, do you have any proof that I shouldn't be thinking that?

"Oh boo hoo, it wasn't me" sure comes in a lot of disguises.

Congrats to the winner.

Congratulations to the winner of any age: younger or older.  Of course, I am hoping the winner is in dire, financial straits, i.g., financial foreclosure, credit card debt, car payment, bank loan, or college tuition.  Anyway, Florida usually has substantial lottery winners -- compared to some other states. So, I wasn't too shocked that the winner hailed from Florida.  Pennsylvania is a good second runner up; a great deal of winners come out of that state, too.

Lottery post players, don't give up hope; keep on keeping on because the minute you forget to play -- that's when your lottery ship comes to port.  Will you be there to meet it and get on board!

And this winner, FLA's first Powerball winner was purchased like 5 minutes from where its drawn.  http://www.wesh.com/news/21304464/detail.html

you have no idea what you're talking about, so stfu. I don't even live in a state that has Powerball so why would I be crying over a lotto, I can't even play. Before anyone writes anything, I don't actually live in pocatello.

I have to say, I was in Florida for the Shuttle launch and bought a ticket for the Powerball. As we were driving home, I read that the winning ticket was from Florida! So for .00005 seconds, I felt maybe I had won!

Good luck to the real winner (wait a minute...they already have the luck!) and I hope you go anonymous!

I've got a real good idea you're a whining little "witch" and if antyone said anything about a winner coming from wherever the heck it is that you live you'd be even more so.

You've made several posts about "the winner better not be near where the drawing is held". If you get jade-green jealous over someone else winning a game you can't even play you really need help.

As for the rest of your post I authenticate Gulf Foxtrot as Yankee in reply to your stfu.

Basta fongool and statazeet.

Bye.

Just so happens that this Fortune Road Publix is in my neighborhood.  I play my numbers there all the time.  Word I'm hearing is that the winner is a 70yr. old women.  Apperantly, she brought the ticket to the store on Sunday, to validate, and several people witnessed her delight.  What a blessing!  Just what I'm hearing.  Hoping that "Lady Luck" stays in Kissimmee for a whileHurray!
