1 ticket sold in Connecticut wins $254.2M Powerball lottery jackpot

Powerball

Powerball's biggest cash value in 5 years

Powerball's biggest jackpot in 18 months — $254.2 million — was up for grabs Wednesday night.

It was won by a single ticket sold in Connecticut that matched all the numbers drawn: 12, 14, 34, 39, and 46, with Powerball number 36.  The Power Play number was 4.

The cash prize, about $150 million, was the biggest in five years.

Just missing, by failing to match only the Powerball, were tickets in a dozen states. One in Arkansas is worth $1 million for matching five numbers while having the Power Play multiplier option. Winning $200,000 were four Florida tickets, three each in New York and Illinois, two in Ohio, and one each in Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, and Wisconsin.

The jackpot goes back to $20 million for Saturday night's drawing.

It's still the biggest jackpot around, however, because Mega Millions rebooted Tuesday night, after a single ticket purchased in Paso Robles, Calif., matched all the numbers drawn: 27, 31, 39, 40, and 46, with Mega Ball number 36.

The annuity jackpot was worth $78 million.

In the Mega Millions drawing, one Texas ticket won $1 million by matching the first five numbers, while having the Megaplier multiplier option. Also matching five were two tickets sold in Ohio, another two in Kentucky, and one each in New York and Arizona. Each won at least $250,000.

The same night, a Philadelphia ticket hit for $225,000 in the Pennsylvania Lottery's Cash 5 drawing. Sold at the Adams Beer Distributor at Adams and Howland Streets in the city's Crescentville section, it matched all five of the numbers: 5, 9, 35, 36, and 41.

A $475,000 Pennsylvanie Cash 5 jackpot was hit Sunday in Wilkes-Barre. The place of purchase was a Mini Mart at 94 S. Pennsylvania Ave. The ticket was the only one in the state with all the numbers: 4, 6, 20, 23, and 30.

Do you think someone from here won the Powerball jackpot for last night drawing? If they did. That person need to buy alot of stuff from lotterypost store. Help out Todd.

Im happy for whomever the winner(s) are.  However, I cant get but so happy about Conn. being the state.  That is Hedge Fund Capital USA, and I know many of those fat cat wall streeters with their million dollar annual bonuses play the lottery also, which is their right.  But I dont even want to think about a multi-millionaire winning a Jackpot that big!   But hey, I'll keep trying, my boat will come in soon.

Just curious, why do 90% or so of your posts always ask the same queston?

In almost every post, you say something along the lines of "you think someone from lottery post hit the jackpot this time?"...or "do you think the winner of last nights win is a poster on here?"

Are you hoping someone did, so you can pitch some kind of business proposal to them?

rdgrnr's avatarrdgrnr

I'm surprised to hear some here say they hope it didn't go to some person who is filthy rich already.

Don't George Soros and Michael Moore and Al Gore and John Kerry and Mayor Bloomberg and John Corzine and all the Hollywood Celebrities deserve to throw another quarter billion on the pile if they bought a ticket?

Just wanted to say that there are some really poor areas of Connecticut.  One of the very odd things to me is that of the poor areas ..alot of the seam to be in the rundown areas of factorys that help win WWII.........CT is a very beautifull state with its high taxes but, again it has its share of slum areas...Anyway  best of luck and congrats to the winner

I'm sorry about asking the same question. I think Todd said someone from here hit last night Powerball jackpot. He post his name on here. I think he was joking around. You never know.

so the new jackpot is only 20 million, i guess that's not enough for everyone here, who seem to only want to play when it reaches over 100 million. illogical, as you only have so many chances to hit it. (104 times a year) i say play every drawing (maybe for less in the beginning) but play it twice a week religously. it would really be a terrible thing if you only won 10 million in cash some day. you are all too greedy.

Sorry you are pissed but I no longer get caught up in the hoopla of what the current jackpot amount is anymore.  It is totally irrelevant unless you possess a ticket that matches all six numbers.  Otherwise, it is all just a fantasy game and does not belong to you or anyone else not possessing a winning ticket.  So why get emotionally wrapped up around what the jackpot is and who won it?  There are better things to focus on, but such is life!  I just buy a ticket, momentarily hope for the best, then go on about my day/night.  I don't watch the ball drawing and I don't get on the website to see what the "score" is.  I just casually go through my emails and click on the one from the lottery of the drawing results.  If someone won, no big deal as even $11milliion cash value before taxes (Powerball) or $7million cash value before taxes (MegaMillions) is more money than I started with today, so I am still going to have a ticket in for the next drawing.  If it wasn't hit and rolled over, then I might purchase a few extra tickets (i.e. $5 QP), but I won't go beserk laying down $100 or more in hopes of hitting it big.  Again, that plays into the uncontrolled gambling hysteria that serves no one except the lottery and the lucky sap that happens to win the jackpot.  So don't be pissed; be glad you're alive today and have another chance to win tomorrow.  Peace.  Oh and just say NO to Occupy.  Go work and earn what you want and stop being envious of others.

finally, someone who gets it. laying down 100.00 because the jackpot is high isn't going to get you anything but broke sooner. and stay away from those workplace pools. it doesn't give you a better chance at all. maybe a miniscule chance to get a smaller prize which you have to split.

that is painful, especially when we find out the guy who won probably bought only 1 ticket.  usually i buy 5 tickets an when the jackpot is very large near 200M i will buy 20 tickets.  plus think about how many total losing tickets there were... probably 20 million losers or more so buying 100 or 1000 tickets really doesnt increase ur odds much at all.

What a wonderful early christmas present!!!!congrats!!!!!!!!!!!MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!

Carl8080

It doesn't really matter how many tickets you buy unless Lady luck is on your side. When the Mega hit 300 millions I bought over 20 dollars in two seperate tickers, and I couldn't even get the mega ball.  I came close of winning the whole thing when I picked my own numbers back in December of 2009. I only came short by two numbers. There is not question that there will be two major jackpots before christmas. ( Mega and  Power). Once Powerball start the new program 1 ticket costing two dollars in January  I will not longer play that game.

Well, since they take half of it from you, playing only when it's high is a good thing. You also save more money when you only play when it's high.

Congrats to the winner. They also made lottery history as that's the last time $1 will have won that much since the tickets are going up in January and theree's no way the jackpot will have grown near $254 million.

It sure sounds like a player is far better off throwin another dollar at the Powerplay or Megaplier than another line of numbers.

Bet those who hit 5 + 0 for $1 are kicking themselves. Nice to win $200,000 but that other dollar they didn't play on PP or MP was worth another $800,000.

If the odds of winning a jackpot was the same as winning a $2-7 prize you would but then you would have  to split it with thousands of other winners and you would still only get $2-7.

Exactly! Every year Mega Millions and Powerball hits right around this time and then ticket sales start to get crazy right before Christmas. Another jackpot won't probably hit until a few days before Christmas or a few weeks after the New Years as it always do.

Sometimes makes me wonder if the Lottery has control over when they want these jackpots to hit.

Just seems to be too much of a coincidence to me.Confusedc

Sorry, but I'd rather win the $20 or $12 million dollar jackpots than something this large.  Too much money brings too many crazies out and too many problems.  If I won the smaller jackpot, it would allow me to live nicely, but my husband would still have to work.  He would get bored in a millisecond, being at home.  We could have a nice home, nice cars and nice vacations, but wouldn't have the money to go crazy.

So, no thanks, but congrats to the winner.

Please. The cost of living is getting too high to not want a huge jackpot. This isn't the '50s. Unlike your husband, many people would love to retire. My stepfather comes to mind. You can go crazy with 5 million dollars. Shocking, I know.

I hope that is a joke because if you're telling the truth then that must put a knot in your stomach...lol

I probably spent $1500+ on all lotteries this year and maybe won back $300-400. I usually only spend $80-150 the whole year but ever since Powerball joined my state and my Local state lotto carried over their jackpot millions for over  a year I got carried away with the spending.

Now I look at this big pile of lotto papers and just think about all the money that I could have saved or spent elsewhere.

It hurts, but to lose $5000 all at once would probably put me in a heart attack..

I would never spend that kind of money all at once on a lottery even if I had won the $254 million but that's just me.

Sure, you can go crazy with 5 million...if you're stupid!!

I think winning a smaller jackpot increases your odds of staying grounded and normal.  It would allow my family to have a new house, cars, nice vacations and "extras" that aren't affordable now...but it isn't enough to quit a job and have to go into hiding for fear of being kidnapped.

My husband would love to not work.....for a few days!  He would get so bored, having nothing to do.

I don't need to roll around naked in millions of dollars.  I would be happy with no mortgage, no car payments and have a few million in a nest egg.

Again, congrats to the winner---no thanks, tho!

Winning a smaller jackpot does not increases your odds of staying grounded and normal! No matter how you cut, you're still now a freaking millionaire! You're now a rich person. Many have went wild with 2 million dollars. Have you ever had a million dollars or more? I'm guessing no, so  you don't know what that feels like to have that kind  of cash, which why some many cannot even handle 2 million dollars, because they never had it before. It's not just lottery winners. That also goes for entertainers. The cost of living is really high and it's getting higher, so winning a big jackpot would be pretty sweet. Many people dream of retiring when they play, and if not retiring, they dream of working for themselves. Starting their own company.

You're right, I've never had a million dollars, which is exactly why when I win, I wouldn't lose it.  I know the situations I've been in in the past and I would NEVER go back to that place again.  (being broke)

Is it possible to go crazy on $1 million, $2 million dollars?  Of course it is, if you're a moron.  (case in point, Leroy Fick's son)

Yes, the cost of living is high due to the economy.  Who in their right mind 'dreams' of starting their own business in this economy?  Too risky, especially with this current administration in office.

If I had the choice, I would much rather win a smaller jackpot than a larger one.  I want to keep my life as normal as possible.  A larger jackpot just makes life that much more crazier.  No thanks!!

Hopefully the powerball or mega millions has consecutive drawings without a winner til 12/24 that would be the best christmas ever!

It'd be interesting if the 18 year old is in NYC occupying Wall Street demanding that the rich give their money to the lazy.

If he is, I'm going to go beat a drum in front of his house all night and demand he give me some money.

Rich bastage.

From the OP:

Just missing, by failing to match only the Powerball, were tickets in a dozen states. One in Arkansas is worth $1 million for matching five numbers while having the Power Play multiplier option. Winning $200,000 were four Florida tickets, three each in New York and Illinois, two in Ohio, and one each in Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, and Wisconsin.

Bet those who hit 5 + 0 for $1 are kicking themselves. Nice to win $200,000 but that other dollar they didn't play on PP or MP was worth another $800,000.

Bang Head

The roll started on 9/17 and took six and a half weeks to reach $254 million. Six and a half weeks from tonight is 12/21, and there will still be 3 more drawings before the end of the year. Of course it's unlikely, but we could see a jackpot even bigger than this on Christmas eve. If it rolls until 12/31 we'll see the first  $400 million jackpot advertisement before the year ends. The current cash value ratio for PB is about the same as for the 390 million MM jackpot of 2007, so PB would also set a new cash value record if it gets a bit past $390 million by the end of the year.

Neither me nor my lottery club won it, oh well, keep trying.

However, I'm setting my sights on MegaMillions with ticket sales less than 2 weeks away(November 16).  I want to be the first big MegaMillions winner in Louisiana.  I've put it to a vote with the lottery club at work and so far, they are all interested in us playing MegaMillions in addition to Powerball and Louisiana Lotto.

Wish us luck.

I pray for the person who won the powerball jackpot amounting to 254.2 million and lost the ticket. I hope he finds the ticket before the time is up or else...may I just say...Bang HeadLOL

Yeah I have been saying for years that I am skeptical about the large jackpot lotteries, I would not doubt that some type of scamming is going on, otherwise why are most of the jackpots always won right before breaking records? Maybe because a lot more are playing them, but it still seems fishy and happens atr the exact time every time. We never see it go up to $500 million and beyond. I won't believe in it until I see a win personally or know someone who wins. But I still am skeptical about the drawing process and winner determination.

I posted this a month ago today.  It turned out I was right about this.  Only if I could be right about picking my winning numbers.
