Winning Powerball lottery tickets sold in Arizona, Missouri
Final jackpot total of $587.5 million will be split 2 ways
How would you react if you won?
By Todd Northrop
The largest Powerball lottery jackpot the world has ever seen has been won Wednesday night by two tickets sold in Arizona and Missouri.
The stage was set for the massive prize early Sunday morning, when lottery officials set the new Powerball lottery jackpot at an estimated $425 million. Over the next few days, extremely high demand for Powerball tickets prompted officials to raise the jackpot two more times before the Wednesday drawing — and by the time all the sales were totalled at draw time, the jackpot stood at a faint-inducing $587.5 million.
The final lump-sum cash value of the jackpot was $384.7 million.
The Powerball winning numbers for Wednesday, November 28, 2012, were 5, 16, 22, 23, and 29, with Powerball number 6.
Wednesday's Powerball jackpot was the accumulation of 15 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner over a nearly two-month stretch. The jackpot run-up started as a $40 million grand prize on Oct. 6, 2012.
The 16th drawing was the charm, and it produced two big winners who will split the jackpot.
The two winners probably got very little sleep Wednesday night, as they try to process winning the Powerball's largest lottery jackpot ever.
Are the winners running around the house screaming? Are they calling their family? Or maybe calling their boss to quit their job? What are they planning to do with all that loot?
What is the first thing you would do?
Fortunately, even if you didn't win the jackpot, the Powerball game still offers another 8 ways to win lower-tier prizes.
In addition to the jackpot winners, a whopping 66 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers, but not the Powerball, for a $1,000,000 prize: 1 from Arizona, 1 from Colorado (with Power Play), 3 from Connecticut (1 with Power Play), 6 from Florida (2 with Power Play), 1 from Georgia, 1 from Idaho, 2 from Illinois, 2 from Indiana, 1 from Kentucky, 1 from Louisiana, 1 from Maryland (with Power Play), 4 from Massachusetts, 2 from Michigan, 1 from Minnesota, 2 from Missouri, 8 from New Jersey, 2 from New Mexico (1 with Power Play), 4 from New York, 3 from North Carolina, 2 from Ohio (1 with Power Play), 1 from Oklahoma, 3 from Pennsylvania, 3 from South Carolina (1 with Power Play), 2 from Tennessee, 4 from Texas, 4 from Virginia, and 1 from Wisconsin.
The 8 second-prize winners indicated with the Power Play option purchased their Powerball tickets with the Power Play option for an extra $1. Because they purchased the Power Play, their ticket is now worth $2 million.
Also, 532 tickets matched four white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Of those tickets, 47 were purchased with the Power Play option, increasing the prize to $40,000.

Ronnie316?
Don't forget me pal!
so much for the billion dollar jackpot
OMG! I won the lottery jackpot!!!!!!!!
Wow 66 second places. Thats a record.
Congrat's tigerfan!!!
Will you be writing a book on your story?
I'm glad a new member won also, what a happy ending for you.
Congrats! now go have some fun!
where's the party gonna be? Missouri loves company.
Congratz to the two big winners .....I only got two numbers
Well, odds wise for the top prize, it played out as it should, as a massive 66 tickets got 2nd prize for 1 million. To have 2 winning tickets, that's 68 total that had all 5 white balls, with 35 : 1 odds of also matching the powerball. 35 x 2 = 70
Seriously? Congratulations!!!
Who is the other member who won the jackpot and for how much?
What happens if too many people win the lower prizes? There were only ~$530 million in sales (then only half to 2/3 of that is for prizes). While there was $511 million in prizes. Do they reduce the cash payout on the top prize?
So a fellow Arizonan has split this Jackpot i.e. walking away with about $290 million. That is certainly much bigger than the Mega split in March in which each of the three winning contestants pocketed $218 million. Congrats!!! On Saturday, another Arizonan was one of the luckiest of the lucky lucky few to have won the second place of $ 1 million. Certainly this is the biggest prize Arizona has won in the Powerball which is almost three times as big as its last largest Powerball win of 17 years ago that stood at $102 million. Though I did not win, I can console myself that on October 13, I managed to clinch $4 at least on this recently concluded historical Powerball lotto bandwagon. even today, I almost won, i.e. clinching two numbers i.e. 5 and 23, just as I almost did at the Mega during that historical March Jackpot i.e. 2 and 23, suggesting that my game is not totally off-base when it comes to clinching something in the two lotto games. Maybe Lady Luck will someday show me more mercy as we re-adjust to the normal $40 million minimum Powerball lotto Jackpot, come Saturday. Meanwhile the billion dollar Jackpot can wait for another in both the Mega and Powerball lotto games!!!
I WON SECOND PLACE FOR A MILLION BUCKS IN THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA , OUT OF THAT I SHOULD GET $750,000.00 AFTER FEDERAL TAXES BEING THAT THERE IS NO STATE TAX FOR LOTTERY PRIZES IN THE STATE P.A...........IM HAPPY WITH THAT.
That is awesome man! Congratulations! I would been happy with a million! If you do not mind, was the powerball you picked close to the winning number?
Sigh...I really hope no one is gullible enough to believe that anyone who won, especially the top prize is going to come on here and post it. Regardless, Todd has all the IP addresses so he can easily verify if it is even possible for the so called winners to have actually won for the most part.
I guess if it entertains you then so be it. lol
I got my $4 back so I am happy.
Oh, I would've been on top of the world, but I didn't get a single number. The hype for that is over. I was listening to my favorite Radio DJ yesterday and he talked about guy in the store who spent 1000 dollars on Powerball. Doug admitted he bought 100 dollars worth of tickets just for fun. He knows he's not going to win, but he said that guy who dropped a thousand dollars is going to be mad as hell today. lol
From now on when I buy my tickets, I will not talk about what going to do if I win. I'm going to just buy a ticket and throw it to the side. I'm not playing MM or PB for awhile. I always wait until the JPs gets higher.
my powerball number is 11, so yea its pretty close ......i purchased all quick picks.
A lot of people won! Some will fake it and other will tell the truth. For those who really won a little or alot, congrats who ever you are.
<snip>! 1 million is still awesome! Congratulations again!
Let me clarify myself. I said a fellow Arizonan won $1 million during this recently-concluded Powerball jackpot bandwagon last Saturday. It was not I that won that $1 million. However during the recently concluded Jackpot bandwagon frenzy, I managed to win $4 on October 13 whcih has been a sort of psychological consolation in light of the frenzy surrounding this recently concluded jackpot frenzy.
LOL!! Nope not me!! I'd want to see the picture but then again when MegaMillions went to a
record jackpot, "winning tickets" were posted all Facebook and the rest of the net. lol
I only had one number #16
But it was fun to dream and a fun ride. Let's do it again!!!
Congratulations to ALL the winners, a Special Shout out to the two Jackpot Winners....
Lol I knew it 5 was going to to be the starting number. I picked 10 columns and I got like 5,6,12,44,48-17.
Congrats to the winners. My only request is you wait a little bit to show up to the offices until after I've won MM so the spotlight doesn't stay on that MM jackpot win. Or just stay a recurring news feature for the next while.
And I just noticed when I was looking at my ticket that the bottom says something about it being a record breaking PB jackpot and that I should buy my ticket today. Found it odd since it was telling me to play PB, when I've obviously done just that.
And today's winning Lottery numbers are NOT yours....
Wow, 105 tickets for my office pool, and for the first time ever, our pool had 0 winning tickets. Not even a $4.
I only bought one ticket and didn't win a darn thing (i did have 1 number right),but the letdown is not as bad as those who spent a ton of money on tickets!
Interesting that all the white balls were below 31. The old birthday paradox method. Figured more people would have hit since all numbers were below 31.
If you had 158 grand sitting around and played all the combos you would have won a cool million.
I feel so sad to hear the news about 2 new Millionaires from Arizona and Missouri...I couldn't believe that I didn't make it for the nth time. But I will always try and be eager to play lottery games....
Congrats to the Winners
Congrats to all the winners.
Since I did not win I am sooooooooo happy for Arizona and Missouri winning. Just glad anyone won besides NEW YORK!
well I just got through checking my tickets ........
and got ed again
Missouri is the ''show-me-the-money'' state and POWERBALL really showed them the money this time!
This had to have been a fluke.
NY should have taken this mammoth jackpot down again.
I think there should be an investigation, and AZ & MO need to relinquish any claims to this drawing immediately!
Shameful, just plain shameful!
Where is MzDuffleBagLady? I hope she can now change her name to MzMoneyBagLady.
I bought 2 tickets and didn't match anything. The clerks at a local gas station were talking about a guy buying
1,000 tickets. - with PP, that's $3,000? I think I'd rather put that money on a pick 3 or 4. $3,000 on
777 would get me $1,500,000.
$3,000 on the 1111 we just got would pay $15,000,000 LOL
Good luck in the next round everyone!
Please do not give New York any ideas, they may just scheme up a plan and ask Powerball for a redo!
If that were to happen NY would win for sure and only one person would win the whole jackpot in NY because NY is greedy like that.
I can't stand New Yorkers, esp since they have taken over the lotteries. lol
They have not gone without winning at least EVERY 2nd prize this year on Powerball.
Lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo@ dr65
I wish, it wasn't me, lol, I had 2 numbers, 23 is my lucky number, but, I had that as my Powerball, and I had the number 5. That's it.
I"m trying to find out now, what area those 2 winning tickets came from. I had a feeling someone in Missouri would get a piece of it.
ou might be a winner! Remember, all winning tickets must be claimed within 180 days from the drawing date.

Good Luck.
Congrats to all the winners! I'm surprised there were only 2 jackpot winners with all the birthday numbers drawn. I won $4.00 on the PB which I'll roll to Saturday's draw.
Time to deflate and go back to normal lottery crazy.
That's a great idea Erzulieredeyes!
A redo is just what the doctor ordered.
Particularly in light of the devastation they suffered from Sandy, NY needs this win, NY deserves this win!
We need to get a petition going right away.
Hurray for NY, God bless America!
Arizona has won a powerball jackpot. Ronnie wish has come true.
Was Ronnie the winner. Ronnie always buys multiple lines. He is a LOTTERY WHALE.
It will be great if he won. He is a great member in the lottery post community.
Did you wake up finally? Funny how during every record jackpot new members arrive claiming they won trying to rile up others and seeking attention. Face it you did not win crap. If you did post some pics of the ticket, and post your name now so when the winners are revealed they match. I guarantee that you won't do either. The Powerball is just an evil game that gets people's hopes up and makes them excited only to be severely let down and depressed once they find out they lost...again. I am not convinced that anyone actually wins it until I see a winner I know or get a winning ticket myself. I matched 2 numbers and the powerball and only played 2 tickets. I hope to win the raffle again this year also as I won $100 last year playing one ticket. I have won thousands on smaller games but I still don't trust the jackpot games 100%.
It is great to see a state like Arizona win a big lottery jackpot. It was a long time since Arizona did not a big jackpot. It makes mega millions and powerball fair to everybody that plays.
Ronnie316 is a living legend here at LP.
His legacy will echo on for eons.
Our friend the WHALE, shall not fail, his check is already in the
Silence speaks louder than words. Ronnie has not said a word after the powerball jackpot was won. It would be funny,if he won such a big jackpot.
I have yet to see anyone on here prove they won a large jackpot, but if you are going to say you did you need to prove it or you may as well say nothing. If I won I would post pics of the ticket once I had claimed it just so I could be the first member in LP history to do so.
MC, I really find it odd that Ronnie316 has not posted anything yet. I wonder how he feels right now, if he really won. lol
Ronnie316, THE LOTTERY WHALE has not said anything.
Well folks, only 2 lucky winners. I was correct on the 2 tier winners, I said there would be a whole bunch of winner on that in another post yesterday. 27 STATES had winners. 66 people in all with the 2 tier wins. Just seen on the news that 90 per cent of the numbers was quick picks. 34.00 dollars I spent on this draw. Had no winning numbers on any of my tickets. It was exciting to think about winning, but will have to wait for Saturday draw. Hey! everybody have a nice day! P.S. where is ridge runner at??
He may in a state of shock THRIFTY.
This would not be at all uncommon, for the recent recipient of a $290 million jackpot prize.
Perhaps after his morning constitution, he will be ready to face the world, and make his grand announcement to all here at LP!
OMG herse! that is funny! It was the only time I smiled this morning. I only had one number. I suck.
Be careful you might get what you wish for.
Ronnie316 might be in a state of shock, if he won the powerball jackpot.lol
You are incorrect.
Even though, the selected white balls were all below 31, as you have correctly noted; the pool from which the white balls were selected remained at 59
The mathematical formula for choosing 5 balls out of 59 with no regard for the order of selection and repetition is not allowed is as follows: n!/((n-r)!(r!)); where n is 59, r is 5 and ! stands for factorial.
The total combinations possible is 5,006,386
I am curious: what was the formula and rules that you used to come up with 158,000 possible combinations?
He got 1+1 on the tic he showed so maybe hes cashing it in.
THE POWERBALL LOTTERY GAME JACKPOT HAS BEEN WON.
IT IS TIME TO PLAY THE POWERBALL LOTTERY GAME SOMEDAY.
I will be double checking all my tickets, but I only had one QP with the number "6" bonus ball
I do believe in getting "BETTER ODDS" Thrifty.........
I thought that you had won the powerball jackpot. Why did it take you so long to post Buddy? I was sheering for you.
My set of 39 was 5 of 5 and I picked some of my lines from that group........
I drank a small glass of wine last night in anticipation of winning and woke up 3 hours late this am. lol. lol.
At least I was correct about predicting that AZ wound be aBIG winner..... lol. lol.
Ronnie, I went shotgun on powerball with a $20 powerball quick pick ticket. I did not win anything on it, but I won $24.50 on a $2 take 5 quick pick. The take 5 ticket had the number 5 at the beginning of line A and B, but I still won $24.50. I do not feel so bad about losing on powerball because I won it back on New York Take 5.
You had to see other players faces when they saw me collecting $24.50 from a $2 New York Take 5 quick pick ticket. lol, lol,lol
You are a very smart player Thrifty. Keep up the awesome work my friend.......
Congratulations AZ and MO.........
Wouldn't that be 79,000 possible combinations if you spent $158,000?
Do you think it was sold at that store in white hills. There was a pic in the usa today showing the huge line outside.
I took your advice, spent less and won more. I will spend my $7 someday.
Congrats to the two big jackpot winners and all those 2nd tier winners. It's awesome to see so many states getting a piece of the pie!
I won a whopping $4.
Ronnie, thanks GOD that I won my shotgun playing method money back. I usually buy a single line on MM and PB because it takes balls to lose playing shotgun man. It does not feel good to lose $20 in one shot. I am just too cheap.
I am cutting the multiple lines to $10 on powerball.
Aye, I'd imagine the same folks that I saw buying tickets with huge stacks of 20's on the March $656M jackpot did the same this time around, I just hope that wasn't money reserved for food or Christmas.
We did have one of the 1 Million dollar winners in our area, just down the road in Humble, congrats to all the winners!
Playing 79,000 combinatins is a very small number when your talking about PB........
HOW TO WIN THE LOTTERY BY NOT PLAYING=SAVE YOUR MONEY.
I WILL PLAY THE LOTTERY SOMEDAY TO AVOID THE LOTTERY INSANITY. IT IS OKAY TO DREAM.
I AM A THRIFTY LOTTERY PLAYER BECAUSE I SAVE LINES TO PLAY SOMEDAY.
OUR REGULAR LOTTERY PROGRAMMING.
1) Playing the lottery more often for less lines= Playing a single line.
2) Playing the lottery less often for more lines= Playing multiple lines.
3) Playing the lottery less often for less lines= Playing a single line monthly or yearly.
4) Playing the lottery more often for more lines= Spending more money= Gambling addiction.
I SET A LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT TO MINIMIZE MY LOSSES.
A lottery stop loss limit is very important to be a successful lottery player over the long term.
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY.
I wonder if Larry Fitzgerald is the winner.. he posted 2 hours ago he was checking his tickets and hasn't updated yet LOL.
I figured Delaware would get no piece of this pie anyway since we won the last jackpot before that but onto the next one!
If a person saved up $25. each draw, they would have $2600. at the end of a year for the shotgun approach.
You are correct that even $158,000 could have purchased only 1/2 of 158,000 or 79,000 of PB tickets.
This value is still a long way from 5,006,386 tickets of distinct white ball combinations which would have required an investment of $10,012,772, time, and tasking logistics in order to ensure at most, a single $1,000,000 win.
I'd probably go take that and put it in stocks or gold, I rarely play over 2 lines per drawing.
Played 6 this time around but it only put me $16 in the hole, by comparison I've seen young Soldiers blow half a paycheck downrange on DG's and booze on a Friday night.
This should have been a new record, but i think the amount of second place winners took them by surprised. They sold 281mill tics. Wheres the rest of the money?
Why do I keep thinking someone from California drove to Arizona and
has the winning ticket, you think that could have happened
Quite possible..
I seem to remember seeing some numbers that around 1/5th of all the money taken in by the lottery goes into the actual jackpot take home pay after 35% Fed and variable State taxes. The rest goes to the government, operating costs and smaller prizes.
The two winners netted around $246.8M total after Federal tax on a CVO and approximately $105M went to the smaller prizes after taxes.
So if the 1/5th thing is true, that leaves over $800M and it definitely does not cost that much to run the lottery.
The big winners here were the States and Uncle Sam.
Edit: It get's even uglier next year when taxes go up from 35% to 43.4% on the largest income bracket... and this does not include State or Municipal taxes.
you keep thinking that because Californians manage to win jackpots some way, some how. I still remember Californian Daniel Bruckner winning a MM jackpot with a ticket he bought while on vacation in NY.
Congrats to you what you giong to do first and remember to give back ok
arizona? was it ronnie?
sorry just woke up, haven't read the thread yet.
Some a$$hole(s) won my Powerball!
Well there's always next time.
That's the 2nd biggest jackpot in United States History this year and split in two ways! Ouch is my reaction!
one of the tickets is from MO. How often does MO win jackpots? It's probably going to be a while before we get another MO winner.
i was close too
. I didn't match any of the #s in either field.
Seriously, I don't care...did not lose any sleep last night nor was I anxious or upset when I saw that MOAZ won. I look at that 175,223,510 odds of winning...not certainty or hope I will be the 1. Not negative, Houston keeping it real. If I were those holding the two winning tickets, I would not let the world see my face...if they do, they might want to consider both a name change and plastic surgery to alter appearance. I hate pain and risk of unnecessary surgery so I would claim using a disguise. May the force be with you! Now time to buy my tickets for the still sufficient $40 million jackpot...goodbye all you fair weather, I only play when jackpot is humongous players.
No One Likes A Sore Loser
You sure was!! Good JOB ronnie
You're right no one does. Unless, of course, he's sore from having the cr*p beaten out of him.
I got my tic for 2 draws last Sunday, so I'm good to good Saturday. The best thing if someone (or me) wins (well, next best) is no one will care or even pay attention. All the attention will be on who one the big one. Flying under the radar, but still plenty for me to retire on.
You Texans SURE know how to do it, God Bless Texas
did you really?
I dont look at "175,223,510 odds of winning" I only look ay my 1 in 575,757 chances of hitting 5 of 5.
Yes we did.
I really dont care who knows when I win..... Im thinking I will stay in my apt. just to see who shows up...
I wont even have to answer the door cuz I have a balcony I can walk out on like the Pope.......
do you really?
Yes we can, and yes we did.
I will come back to LP as "ThePope" someday....
If you can pull that off, you don't need any lottery jackpot.
The Catholic Church is worth billions, and has countless precious jewels, diamonds and emeralds stashed away in every brick and cobblestone.
Perhaps I will just call myself "PopeRonald" and see how the people respond......
Seriously, I would be interesred to see how many people beat a path to my door, and also the see what the Apt. manager does about it when I complain and tell him to keep them away........
So Ronnie you live near 4 sons food store in Fountain Hills? That's where the tickets was sold at. Congrats on your newfound wealth!
I have been there, but I don't live near there and I was NOT there in the last 4 days.........
ok!
The one in AZ was a $10 QP!
Those pesky QPs again......
The other ticket was sold off interstate 29. Trex Mart Convenience store in Dearborn, MO.. Could be someone traveling through..
Heard on the news, that 90 per cent was QP'S...
Sounds about right.....
Hey buylow, this proves to all the "self-pick" believers that QP's win just as well as self-picks.
How do you self-pick guys feel now? Huh?
Here is the winning ticket purchase location in Dearborn, MO.
Does anyone know the percentage of people who have won MM and PB with just a one line ticket? All of the latest winning tickets for PB and MM had 4 or 5 lines on the ticket. I am trying to see if it's even worth it just spending $1 or $2 on just one line. Doesn't it seem like all the winners have several lines on their ticket?
Your thinking like a programmer/analyst.
One line or 1000, if it's your time it doesn't matter.
I think there was one single guy in all the history of PB thatr won with only two lines...... He was so tight with his money that there is a skreetching sound every time he pulls his wallet out of his pocket......
Your thinking that winners are "God sent"..........
Its all a matter of happenstance and chance.......
