Let's get to that Altar now.

First, It can get expensive , but it doesn't have to be, and it can also be a temporary thing or maybe you lifestlye will let you have a permanent one, it up to you.

The most important thing to remember , your Altar is a reflection of your personal spirituality, you can make it as plain or as ornate as you wish.

I myself have a huge family, as does my husband, and there's always kids in the house, I don't want people gawking or touching my stuff, so I keep everything in a wooden box .

Most of your spell casting will be done in the kitchen anyway, will get to that later.

The most important thing to remember is you want to incorporate the Elements.

    Air-Water-Earth -Fire

Your Altar can be as large or as small as you want, but keep in mind, you will want a wood, stone or iron table, no man made materials.

You must Consecrate your table, I wipe mine down down with a salt water mixture and  fan some sage around, repeat the Consecration blessing I tought you earlier.

Keep in mind any exposure to sunlight or moonlight is a very good thing.

Now let's talk about the Altar clothe, you can buy one, or make one, something to keep in mind, is your need to have a Pentagram on it, and this is where most people go batty.

In Wicca, the Pentagram is a 5 pointed star, the top point is always at the top, if the top point is facing down, thats for satanists, and we don't want that. More on the pentagram later.

Should you decide to buy one, find one that speaks to you, and should it be full of symbols, find out what they mean first, or your just buying frosting with no cake.

Many have the Pentagram and a waxing and waning cresent, many have the symbols for the elements, we will get to symbols, first things first.

Some Wtches have many, depending on the season or for the Sabbats, some have many that are dedicated to their personal Element.

As always, Consecrate your Altar clothe, sage will do the trick, as with a sprinkling of sea salt, you can shake it off after the Blessing.

You Altar should be facing North or East, the top point of the star is pointing in that direction.

Some set ups divide the Male and Female , some divide the Elements.

The left side is Female, Earth and Water, you should have,

Your Goddess statue, Money is tight, so if you don't run right out and buy one, that okay, A white or silver taper candle represents the Goddess.

Other things you would have would be,

A Chalice for wine, Bowl of water,. Cauldron id you want one, Pentacle, or special coin or disk, Bell, Crystals, stones, offering dish, bowl of salt, Remember, you can can keep this as simple or as ornate as you want, the main point is to keep things associated with Earth and Water on the left.

The right side is Male, Air and Fire, you should have,

Your God Statue, or a Gold or Yellow Taper Candle

Your Wand or Athame, incense, sage smudge, matches, feathers, utility knife.

    Everything is Consecrated.

Next will be an Element type set up.

Now for an Elemental set up,

North-Earth, will be at the top, This is where you would keep you bowl of salt, stones, plants , flowers, offering cakes, and a green taper Candle.

East-Air, incense, feathers, bell, wand, Yellow taper candle

West-Water, Bowl of water, seashells, Chalice, Blue taper Candle

South-Fire, Athame, boline, or utility knife, candle snuffer, Red taper candle

In the middle, would be your God and Goddess statues, or Silver/white or Gold/yellow

As we get into the Sabbats and Esbats, and advanced spell casting, your Altar will take on a new meaning.

        Grandmother Moon,

In Wicca, the Moon holds a high place, as with the elements. Certain spells are done during these times, used in conjunction with the elements and or, herbs, stones, crystals, invocations of the Gods, Godessess, or other dieties.

The Moon phase also correspondes with Sabbats and Esbats, more on that later.

Right now, we are at a 79 percent waxing gibbous moon, we are getting close to a full moon.

You can track the moon right here on Lottery post, go to resources, scroll down to lunar Calendar.

        The phase starts with

        New Moon

        Waxing cresent

        First quarter

Waxing Gibbous ( This means more than half, less than full)

        Full Moon

        Waning Gibbous

        Last quarter

        Waning cresent

        New Moon or dark moon

What is waxing, hold your right hand up and make a letter c, when the cresent is the same as your right hand, it's waxing.( TO GET BIGGER)

Waning, hold your left hand up and make a letter c, when the cresent is the same as your left hand, it's waning ( to get smaller)

Now, we have the lunar Phase Tides, There's a ton of scientific stuff, low tide, high tide, spring tide, blood tides ( bacteria in the water that turns it red), but I have no desire to go into all the science of the moon, sun, earth, gravtational pull stuff, and how the tides are affected by the phase of the moon, the seasons, blah blah blah!

We are going to keep this as simple as possible, keep in mind, many different Wiccans have different names, I am giving them to you as I learned them, what they are for and how you can incorporate the Elements.

The New Moon Tide, To bring about a new beginning, to make new friends, get a new job, to make a fresh start. To bring new ideas and thoughts, to get new pots and pans, if thats what you desire.

Waxing Moon Tide- Means to bring in, positive, good, to grow and build, to increase inspiration.

Full Moon Tide, A full moon is when a Witch should be at her most powerful, It is a time of Harvest, dreams become reality, sexual desire is at its peak, create wealth, prosperity , and the ultimate time for protection spells.

Waning Moon Tide, to get rid of, to cleanse, undo, right wrongs, wash away bad ideas and thoughts.

Dark Moon Tide- A time to rest, a time to reflect inward, to let go completely.

Next, we will connect this with the elements,

until then, Harm to none, do what ye will.

We are getting closer to actual spell casting, now we are going to learn the ( why) of adding the elements to our spells, in conjunction with the moon phase,

Let's start with Water, since it's the element most closely associated with the Moon.

Why you would bring water unto yourself, and you can match it to the moon phase most fits your specific needs,

            examples

Maybe you want to bring dreams...for prophecy or problem solving

To ease pain * ( Always consult a doctor for sickness and pain), this kind of easing , may be for emotional pain, or stiffness,

To soothe and calm, after a hectic day, or sleepness night

To bring romance, in old relationships or new

To increase Psychic powers and improve intuition, no matter what the type of psychic power, it's a flow of thoughts, feelings, visualizations, water is a psychics best friend.

To help make decisions easier, water is inner as with fire

To improve childbirth and lactation, many women now opt to give birth in water.

To help heal Blood disorders ( as always, doctors come first )

To help keep secrets, think of a deep ocean, we want our secrets hidden.

To help with insomnia, nothing worse then no sleep.

If you feel out of touch, or behind in situations, water can release the flow of thoughts, ideas and day dreams.

When we get to the spell casting, you'll find water spells are very easy and if your like me, you'll find them to be your favorites.

As time permits, I'll get to all 4 elements, plus I have a full moon special coming up for Friday, your first full moon as  A Witch.

Now for Earth, these are some reasons why you would use Earth in spells,

For wealth, This is for growing prosperity, not lucky charms for a quick win.

For Fertility, in any sense of the word, for having a baby all the way to the soil you grow your garden, help crops and insure a wonderful harvest.

              To get a job

To improve your appetite, especially if you have sickness, ( I will give you a list of healthful herbs, you probably have most in your cupboards right now.) Not to worry, no eye of newt is needed) LOL

               For healthy hair and nails

To get a home, and to bless it, especially your kitchen, much Witchcraft is done in the kitchen, believe it or not, so out kitchen is an important place.

To finish things, to bring things to fruition, or to close an issue once and for all.

For Marriage, and family related matters.

To help heal broken bones, after you've seen the doctor of course.

To help the ecology or a specific ecosystem.

If your feeling ungrounded, maybe you have to much air and you feel like an airhead, let's get that focus going.

Unable to hold on to your money, if it burns a hole in your pocket, you may have to much fire, we need to slow that down.

If your careless, making bad decisions, Earth can help.

If you have been robbed, lied to, or cheated repeatedly, you need to reconnect with Earth, raise your power of focus and concentration, and your inner intuitions, they can help you.

Things you can eat, that make you more Earthy, are peanut butter, maple syrup, oatmeal, and of course a variety of herbs, I'll have a complete list later.

                To increase personal power

To gain knowledge or wisdom, to help in taking tests.

Are you ready to cast your first spell ?

Let's start with a simple house Blessing,

you will need a small jar, sea salt, bay leaf, water, sage smudge and a black 3 inch taper candle.

Make sure everything is consecrated, as you are making this sacred to yourself

First you pour a small amount of sea salt , the bay leaf, and a small amount of water into the jar,

                      You will say the words

With Earth and Water, protect my home ( repeat 3 times)

seal the jar, it's ideal, that your bury the jar, but for many, the ground is frozen, so you can keep it on a windowsill until spring.

You will light your candle and your sage smudge and say the words

With Fire and Air protect my home ( repeat 3 times)

Let the candle burn completely, walk through your house and wave the smoke from the smudge all around.

When you are done, you will say

" and this is done, so mote it be" You will then give thanks to the Elements , a simple thank you will suffice, you may want to offer flowers or cakes, to the offering plate on your Altar.

When the candle has burned itself out, you will bury that in the opposite direction that your buried your jar.

Now, there are many forms of protection, and since we are on the Eve, of your first full moon, we will get to " Drawing down the moon" or invoking the divine light, this is the ultimate personal protection.

Keeping in mind, not all spells are this simple, I hope you have your special paper and pen, because writing your own spell, makes it much more powerful, all you need from me is a nudge in the right direction.

Keep in mind, you must make your spell as direct as possible, say what you mean and mean what you say.

If you say, I want to win the lottery, well, at this point it's just a wish, you might want to ask for higher intuition in games of chance, while using a lottery ticket as the focal point of the sympathic magik.

Writing spells is not an overnight class, it takes time to learn, but as we get to certain situations, I will help with that nudge.

Since we are on the Eve, of your first full moon, most of our time together will be dedicated to the moon, and all the wonderful things Grandmother Moon has to offer.

Ancient Greeks, thought the moon was the home of the dead, while Hindus believed that the souls of the dead returned to the moon to wait for rebirth.

The Tartars of Central Asia called her, Queen of life and Death.

In Mythology the moon is quite often a female Goddess.

The Incas, believed in sister maiden moon and brother sun, they were ancestors of Royal Incas.

The Greeks had many names for the moon, The Goddess Artemis sister of Apollo, she was also named Hecate, Cynthia and Selena.

The Roman name is Luna, While some Native American tribes called her " old woman who never sleeps or the eternal one'

The Inuit, call him brother moon, a great hunter, and Norse Mythology call the Moon son, and the sun daughter.

In China and Japan, the lunar Rabbit is said to have a potion thats gives immortality.

There are many superstitions about the Moon, some would hide from the moon, they thought you could get moonsickness or be moonstruck, you could be turned into a Lunatic, the term Lunacy comes from this wives tale.

All in all, the Moon is an awesome wonder, and I hope you enjoyed some fun facts.

In Witchcraft, we celebrate Esbats,They are held in honor of the Goddess, they are rites held for the purpose of communing with the moons energies, It is regarded as the best time for working magik, such as to Attract, banish, invoke, protect, and to fill your self with the Divine light, Drawing down the Moon,

Januarys Moon, is considered the time to conserve energy, and to work on personal problems, it is a time to renew protection spells and preform and spells that need to be reversed.

Thats where we Draw down the Moon, you can do this anytime, especially if you wish to do the Divine Light Invocation, they are 2 separate things, that go hand in hand.

Just a word on drawing down the moon, your intent must be clear, you can draw anytime, but keep in mind the waning moon , is for letting go, so the beat time to draw is waxing and of course full.

The Divine Light invocation, is drawn out and lenghty, so thats a whole other thing, can be done daily in the comfort of your home, this is the ultimate Protection spell. More on the later.

                              To Draw down the Moon.

You must go outside and face the moon, yes I know it's cold, but it only takes a few minutes.

                              Gound and center yourself

You Must offer flowers or aromatic spices, Make clear to the Goddess that your intent is to receive the light, you will raise your arms over your head and form a bowl or cup as you are now the Chalice, (there are many levels of the chalice, and we will get to that ,as that to is drawn out and lenghty)

Now you will use your visualization skills to fill your Chalice, all the bright white light is filling your cup, when your cup is running over with the light, you clap your hands together over your head and repeat, you do this at least 3 times. When you are finished, you Thank the Goddess and kiss your hands.

Did you exchange a walk on part in the war ?

For a lead role in a cage?
