Me too Ronnie.
Somehow along the way this topic went off the road that was paved with " good intentions". Consider that hoarding one's millions is foolishness, when persons like Bill Gates makes donations to worthwhile causes, its looked upon as a wonderful gesture yet if a member of this forum became a millionaire and wanted to help a fellow member of the forum who experienced a massive disaster- its termed coercion of others or worse.
You cannot take it with you. ..end of story.

I don't think anyone would care or complain if you or any other LP member won a lottery jackpot and decided to share it with LP members, some are just saying there's no way in hell they would even think about doing something like that in response to the question you asked at the beginning of this thread.

......Yet some will go to a party, see this person for the first time and decide to sleep with them- balls to bone! Right.

Reading your response RJOH - " Half of me is like, "No freakin' way. This is bogus." And then the other half of me, who has seen enough bad cinema says, "Oh, yes way."

    Thanks for your imput.

In truth, this topic went off the road when you lashed out at others for daring to disagree with you. Everyone else immediately saw the foolishness of your proposal. But that does not make them "coldhearted" as you put it, just realistic. But I'll believe you had "good intentions" with the hypothetical.

        noise-gate,

And how many of those 'disasters' would be legitimate?

For one thing, degenerate gamblers looking to recover their losses would consider that a 'disaster'.

There's actually a website that teaches people how to write outlandish solicitation e-mails. If someone on this site won a jp and started handing out $$$$ the site would be pulverized with some of those creeps.

I think it was Artist77 who said she'd like to see a jp winner write a book about all the people that approached them trying to put the bite on them. Artist is right, that would be an interesting book.

I hope I get a chance to write that book Coin toss!  And I know you got the parameters of the book but apparently someone else did not. I did not ever suggest that the JP winner meet with people asking for money and that would be dangerous and it would not be needed for a marketable book. I was referring more to what happens in their daily life...kind of like the new drama lottery series is going to focus on (family drama, people tracking them down asking for money, etc.). Based on my research, it would be unique and if the lottery winner won quite a bit (200 million plus), the market would be there for such a book.

If they faced hard times, l would not hesitate providing that assistance-providing they did not run off at the mouth to others given that the help is private. .how about you?

Yes, I would hesitate. There is no way I would write a check to a stranger that I have not met, and only "talked" with on a forum. Where money is involved, people get weird ideas. Like, "hey I deserve a piece of that".

I came into a little inheritance a few years ago, and the neighbor behind me got wind of it and came knocking on the door. Really. They didn't know how much I got, but it didn't matter. They felt they were entitled to some. My wife told the neighbor not to ever knock on our door again. If I ever win the lottery they would be all over that.

Oh, no problem, they're available at Walmart now.

I think it's the only product they have that's not made in China.

If we wait long enough those will be imported from China too.

The so called " foolishness of my proposal" was based on a passage of scripture from the bible l had read the night before- " James 2:15, 16"- l guess l was wrong to have injected that idea into my question since not everyone is Christian & not everyone reads or has read the bible.
My intentions were well meaning and not written to offend anyone or to elevate myself above others.

One thing I would consider doing and that is buying a premium membership for some of the members.  Over the years several members whom I never corresponded with did that for me and it was greatly appreciated.  As far as I know none of them won a jackpot so maybe they just wanted to spread some good karma.

The same thing happened to me;  the neighbor I've known the longest came over, a widow woman, wanted to "borrow" five hundred bucks.  I thought it was quite a bit to ask of me and told her I would but definitely needed it repaid.  She looked at me funny, like it was cruel of me to insist, but agreed.  As I handed her the cash, I told a "white lie" and said it was a hardship on me, but figured she needed it or wouldn't have asked.  After she put the money away, she said it would supplement what she'd been saving to go to the Indian casino over in Oklahoma.   My jaw was still on the floor after she had walked back to her house.  I was over there right after the first of the month when she said she'd repay me.   She hesitated, like she didn't want to pay, but did.  "Might have to hit you up for another loan next time I go to the casino." she said.   I told her I didn't like subsidizing other people's vices, had enough of my own.  We're still "friends" but I can sense a difference, but I really don't care.

I've loaned out thousands in my life and I bet not 10% was ever paid back.  The ones who got the 90%?  Never heard from them again.

From a post on the previous page (mine, but that doesn't matter):

For one thing, degenerate gamblers looking to recover their losses would consider that a 'disaster'.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

                        Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

And most gamblers would not be so forthright about why they needed money.
