Great post, veganlife! Hurray! I think it was way earlier in this thread I said much the same about extra taxes on lottery winners;  the pols will call it something like "excessive windfall tax" and no one will gripe about it (other than the lottery winners affected) b/c it's all "Let's soak the rich!" these days. I could see the rate go to something like 90% "So what, they won a hundred million, they'll still have ten million left, no need to feel sorry for 'em."  The sad thing, other than the legal highway robbery, is that 90 million will run the govt. for about 12 minutes.

Who said they didnt' matter?  They do matter but at what cost and to whom?  The issue is who is supposed to pay for government workers retirement?

City union workers and welfare recipients ganged up with politicians at the ballot box in the boom years to force money out of business owners, workers, and property owners.  The boom is over.  the revenues are down.  the promises are still on the books.

Taxpayers are moving out of high tax cities across the country and the recipients of welfare get a bankrupt city.  Next up illinois dumping 100 billion in state pension funds led by your favorite politicians city: Chicago.

This is relevent to lottery discussion because as these politicians get desperate they are going to be pushing legistation to take a much higher percentage of the take on MegaMillions, Powerball, and other games.  Players will learn quickly.  Sales will suffer.

Like I said they dont matter, politicians dont really care what happens to them...the liitle workers are not "too big to fail"

      I agree, vegan.

But the politicos, the union thugs and free-stuff crowd never will.

They just want their respective slush-funds, their lavish pensions and benefits and their free-stuff to continue and don't really care what has to be done to keep it.

      Pure corruption, greed and laziness.

Thanks for the comp MikeInTexas.  You did call the extra taxes coming on lottery winners.  You were right also on the Federal Government spending 90 million dollars every 12 minutes.

What do you think about John Boehner and Paul Ryan releasing Obama from the sequestration spending cuts that he signed in 2011?  They just gave Obama an open checkbook for the rest of his term.  They claim the new plan will save 23 billion over 10 years.  We spend 1 TRILLION more than we take in taxes every year.  That means in 10 years we will have a new debt of at least 27 Trillion instead of 17 Trillion, minus 23 billion of course.  We spend 23 billion every 2 days.  Woop de doo at those savings!

The House Of Representatives have the power of the purse.  The Republicans hold the House Of Representatives.  The Senate Democrats can't control the money flow from the Senate or the Presidency so what gives?

THIS:    Obama and Pelosi > > > "I can't guarantee the Social Security checks will go out without the Republicans raising the debt ceiling....."

Boehner & Paul > > > "Run for the hills!"

I quess you would also AGREE  Jeb Bush has finally decided to seek the republican nomination next time since they just dropped a bomb on Chris Christy to break what was his building momentum.  Its going to be an uphill battle to see who gets the right to take on Bill Clinton for the third time! Big Grin

The way things are going right now in Washington, I can't see a republican president being elected for the next presidency.  Possibly after the next elected president there might be a republican president.  The republican party is splintered into two groups and that's not good.

I have a friend who lives in Canada and they don't pay taxes on their lottery winnings.. wouldn't that be nice?  I don't think we'll ever have a president who who would be pro for that.. they are all too greedy.. no matter if they are democrat, republican or whatever.  They all want to take, take, take.

Jeb Bush would be a Moderate (meaning liberal) Blueblood, Country Clubber favorite, a Democrat-Lite Candidate.

                  And he would be trounced.

Republicans will not win without a credentialed, solidly Conservative Candidate.

And that leaves out people like McCain and Romney and Jeb Bush (Thank God).

                  Period.

hmmm.......interesting that Marco Rubio & Paul Ryan are perceived as different.

Many will believe that Bill Clinton can bring back the economic prosperity of the 1990's that George Bush Jr & Barack Obama couldn't.

Hillary Clinton won't like or want to implement the changes that Bill will suggest if she runs and wins.

                      Might not make any difference.

We could join the Soviet Union on the ash heap of history well before the next election.

Your right.  It "won't make any difference" but its fun to watch them argue back and forth afterward about which party is spending the country into a financial disaster quicker!

It makes for great entertainment until the $71 million draw tonight.  Pass the popcorn and good luck to all tonight!Thumbs Up
