We've been doing this for about 10 years on and off. the most we got was a couple hundred, nothing to retire on.

ive ran my family pool for as long, similar story.  only now i have it streamlined. i told them all that once we win enough to cover the purchase price with interest from the  bank account they wonth have to  send me anymore money.  here 15 years latter we are further away from that goal than when we started.

    I run my office pool.

    Upsides:

I get to buy $100 worth of tickets for major jackpots, instead of $5.

If I do win, any fame from winning will also be split 20 ways, so it will be a little easier to hide.

Many of my friends will have a boatload of money, so I can hangout with them and do nice things, without having to feel like I have to pay for everything, because I am the rich one.

When beggars come a knocking, they will be easier to blowoff, because there will be 19 other rich people to bother.

    Downsides:

I have to split the prize 20 ways.

Any chance of keeping it anonymous is probably gone.

I have to have everyone sign a legal document for each drawing to prevent office pool lawsuits.

We never seem to actually win, which is a little depressing.

Here is the latest lottery pool agreement. We sign a new one for every drawing.

The following individuals agree to join a lottery pool for the Mega Millions drawing on 12/13/13.

Each participant shall have contributed $5 prior to signing this document. Only the participants who have contributed $5 and signed this document shall be eligible to share in the winnings from this drawing.

In the event that prizes are won, with a total equal to or exceeding $1 per person, the lottery pool manager (my name), shall oversee an even division of the prizes amongst the participants.

In the event that prizes are won, with a total not equal to or exceeding $1 per person, the lottery pool manager (my name), shall donate the prizes to the Durham Holiday Toy Drive.

Under no circumstances will any prizes be carried over to a future drawing.

This agreement shall not automatically renew and shall expire after the 12/13/13 Mega Millions drawing.

In the event that the jackpot prize is won, and settlement options are provided (Annuity or Cash), the pool will take the Cash option.

This is the entire agreement of the parties and there are no agreements express or implied not stated herein. This agreement may only be altered in writing signed by all parties.

      Dated:   12/11/13

      Signed by All the Parties

I'll never be in another lottery pool again, unless I decide to invite a couple people into my current system.  As someone said, too many cheapskates just throwing in a couple bucks, will never do any work for the pool, and are often late paying, plus the hassle of contracts, and nevermind the even larger hassle if you win on your own and some members of your pool decide to piggyback on your winnings by suing you.

I play enough lines on my own, with a more intelligent system, and will share the money with whom I choose should I win.  It really is the best way.
