Good news, bad news

Sardonicism is seldom punished with disappointment, but it never bears the sweet fruit of true happiness that comes from the courage to believe.

It Ain't Vegas

I went to the Caesars Indana riverboat casino yesterday morning. It seemed a little weird going to a casino way out in the country on the banks of the Ohio River. There was a steady stream of vehicles going up and down Highway 111 to and from Caesars. I'm sure that little rural road never saw so much traffic in all its history before the casino came along.

I was struck by a few things. (1) They certainly must have poured a massive amount of concrete to build that place. (2) I didn't see any of those overjoyed gamblers who are so prominently featured in their advertisements. The facial expressions of most of the patrons I saw looked like they were just about as happy as if they were serving a life sentence in prison. (3) The air quality in the place was terrible. It smelled like stale cigarette smoke, and my eyes began to burn after a short while. It was also starting to give me a headache before I left. (4) Being on the boat was like walking around in a multi-level shoe box. There were no windows or doors with outside visibility.

I played around on a couple of slots until I became so bored that I had to leave. That didn't take very long. The first machine was some video slot called Risque Business - a 9x9 slot. I made money on that one and put away the profit. Then I went to a rather tight video Keno machine and played the rest away. There's something about Keno that fascinates me.

There were plenty of flashing lights, bells, free (soft)drinks, pretty waitresses, slot machines, and table games. Even though they owe me $10 (They welshed on their promise to give me that much in free slot play.), I probably won't be going back. Southern Indiana just ain't the same as Las Vegas. It was just boring.

Meet me in Saint Louis

The University of Louisville Cardinals are on the march! We're on our way to the Final Four in Saint Louis.

Good game, West Virginia Mountaineers. It just wasn't good enough.

Look out Illinois; you're next.

Human Nature

Some lessons are so hard to learn. No matter how many times we get burned, there's always a profound sense of disappointment whenever defilements manifest in human character. We're all human and none of us is perfect, but maybe we just want to believe that we are actually becoming better people. May we all strive on toward deliverance.

By ourselves is evil done,

By ourselves we pain endure.

By ourselves we cease from wrong,

By ourselves become we pure.

No one saves us but ourselves,

No one can and no one may.

We ourselves must walk the path,

Buddhas merely show the way.

'skindex error: getpaid scores 9.73 hit

My humble apologies to all Pigskin Challengers, especially getpaid. I made a huge error in calculating the 'skindex ratings for the 3-16-05 Challenge. getpaid actually scored a 1+1 match instead of the 1+0 match that I recognized. getpaid's actual score should have been 9.73. That score earned top honors in The Pigskin Challenge. (That's what I get for doing the ratings in the middle of the night.) I'm very sorry for the mistake. Big congratulations to getpaid!

How to Fix Indiana's Lottery

Indiana's new governor seems to be trying to fix the problems with his state's lottery. He campaigned on the issue of renorm, but he needs your help. Contact him directly to advise him of the Hoosier Lottery's problems. Also let him know what needs to be done to fix those problems. Give the guy a chance. At least he's trying.

Here's the contact innormation for Governor Mitch Daniels:

Need a laugh?

When the driver of a huge trailer lost control of his rig, he plowed into an empty tollbooth and smashed it to pieces.  He climbed down from the wreckage and within a matter of minutes, a truck pulled up and discharged a crew of workers.

The men picked up each broken piece of the normer tollbooth and spread some kind of creamy substance with a minty smell  on it.   Then they began fitting the pieces together.  In less than half an hour, they had the entire tollbooth reconstructed and looking good as new.

"Astonishing!" the truck driver said to the crew chief.  "What was the white stuff you used to get all the pieces together?"

The crew chief said, "Oh, that was tollgate boothpaste."

Numerical Inundation

There's about a foot of snow all round my house. I shoveled the sidewalk and the driveway, but I hope that doesn't spell doomsday for the universe. Thank goodness somebody came along and knocked the snow back over an area that I had cleared! Who could have possibly known that these very snowflakes would come together in my yard? Watching the near blizzard conditons, it all seemed so chaotic. The notion of stochasticness seems so far removed, yet typicalness sounds much too ordinary. Maybe they're pretty much the same. I can't begin to fathom the unpredictability of all these unique crystals coming into my life. Each and every one of them has a story. I have a story. Alas, so many of them lie out there undisturbed. Their stories will never be known. Far be it from me to violate their privacy, but I can hear them unintelligibly whispering and laughing among themselves. I think the very lottery numbers I seek are right in my flower bed. Hmmmmmmm....

Thanksgiving Thoughts

Be thankful.

Be appreciative of what is important in life - the ability to give and receive love - the most precious treasure we can possess.

Be thankful for what we've been given. We should be givers ourselves. Touch others with compassion, give of our time, our talents, and our possessions.

Be humble, honest, extend trust, and stop to help those in need.

Forgive others when it goes against what we want to do. Put others before ourselves.

Strive to love and respect all people no matter their race, religion, shape, size, ethnicity, or faults. For all deserve love, peace, joy and happiness in their lives.

Everyone has some good qualities about them. Focus on the goodness in people and encourage them to be the best person they can possibly be.

May many blessings be bestowed upon you.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Candles and Quintiles

Please read the following and join us on October 27th, 2004, in creating "CANDLES ACROSS AMERICA" to Light the way for the 2004 Presidential Election.

This is a vitally important time for America. Some of us have felt paralyzed, as if there is little we can do as individuals beyond campaigning and
voting. But we can do more. One person can make a difference. Think of Rosa Parks, Gandhi, Winston Churchill, or your own personal hero. The Light within you - the power of consciousness - has the power to manifest reality.
And Millions of US working together can move mountains. After all, if you look at US, aren't those the initials for the United States? Doesn't it make sense that if all of US unite, we can bring our country back into the Light again? Working together we can bathe America in Light for peace, Enlightenment and ensure a fair, just and ethically conducted U.S. Presidential Election on November 2nd, 2004, along with a safe and successful inauguration of that race's correct winner.

Here's all you have to do:

1. Any time in the two hours before 8:07 pm Pacific Daylight Time (11:07 Eastern, 10:07 Central, 9:07 Mountain) (U.S.) on October 27th, 2004 (the time of the Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse), light a white candle. Any size larger than a birthday candle will do. Try to light it between twenty-five minutes before to five minute after the hour to take advantage of an hourly tide. A white candle represents Clarity, Light, and Truth - something we really need in these times.

2. Sit with your candle and visualize Brilliant White Light flooding the Oval Office, the White House, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, every physical ballot, every polling booth, every voting precinct, every ballot box, every place and everyone responsible for conducting the election process, especially the places where votes are tallied and the people who tally them. See every major and minor news outlet (especially TV and cable networks, wire services, news people covering the election) infused with Brilliant White Light.

3. See the election process proceeding normally without trouble or interference of any kind. See the correct winner announced and the news people announcing the correct winner bathed in Light. Bathe your area and the entire country and all of its citizens, especially those able to vote, in Brilliant White Light and see them freely casting their votes without impediment of any kind and see all of their votes accurately counted.

4. If need be, see the Supreme Court and judicial system backing up a fair and accurate tally.

5. See the correct winner successfully inaugurated and safely fulfill his term over the next four years.

Affirm: "The 2004 U.S. Presidential Election is conducted fairly and ethically in each and every detail without interruption or interference of any kind."

Feel free to add your own prayers and positive White Light visualizations and affirmations.

Pernorm this exercise in groups or in conjunction with your own spiritual practice.

Do this exercise even starting now but especially on October 27th as discussed above when we will all be working together.

Do this with all your heart, all your soul, all of your mind, all of your senses and feel the energy flow.

Banish any fear or anxiety you may have about the American situation. Let only strong, positive, peaceful and even joyful feelings provide the force for your visualizations and affirmations.

Send this innormation to as many others you can think of who would be interested in doing this vital work. We need to get it out to as many spiritually conscious folks as we possibly can by the 26th. Post it on your website, hand it out as a flyer, whatever it takes to help get the word out to as many individuals, groups and organizations as possible.

If we all work together, we cannot fail; Enlightenment, justice, truth and a fair and ethical election and resulting inauguration will prevail.

Working together we can turn the course of this dark tide. We can create light if each and every one of us is willing to mark our calendars and take the time to be a "Candle across America."
We can't emphasize enough how important this is: that we the people stand for something again in this beloved country of ours.

Another note of interest is that there will be a Grand Quintile as well. The Grand Quintile is a rare aspect that always presages powerfully significant changes in the human condition. This unusual aspect, first delineated by Johannes Kepler, is a division of the 360 degree circumference of the zodiac by 5, producing a five-pointed star (or pentagram-the mark of Venus). Two Grand Quintiles occur in October 2004, the first on October 1 and the second on October 28, in close conjunction with a lunar eclipse. Thus the Solar Eclipse occurs at the mid-point of two Grand Quintiles, a rare occurrence indeed.

Agree to remember; give yourself permission to remember who you are!
