I agree, this jackpot winner was indeed "having a good day"!  The win will be approximately $136,000 by the time this jackpot winner receives the electronic transfer deposit to his checking account from the South Carolina Lottery Headquarters.

The win is a tidy sum and maybe if this winner can negotiate both a lower priced mortgage workout and family cruise line tickets for his family, they will be able to enjoy remaining occupying the same house, a 5 night cruise, and save 10-12 months worth of living expenses in an interest earning checking and/or CD "family emergency account."

      Congratulations Davis family! Sun Smiley

I am certain religious folks are rolling their eyes reading this story...many religious folks believe it is a sin to play the lottery.  I always ask such people to show me where in the Bible it says playing the lottery is a sin.  None so far have been able to answer that question, but they always allude to some scriptures that says God is the source...for healing....provision...etc.  I agree with that but that still does not say playing the lottery is a sin.

Now Seachelle, I have to disagree with you on this.  If I only had 3 dollars left in my pocket, I would go out and buy a $1 Powerball ticket and a $1 Mega Millions ticket...quick picks.  Then I would take the remaining dollar and head for the casino and try my luck!  And if I was flat broke with no dinero in my hands, I would pull out my credit card, call the Illinois lottery and purchase a MegaMillions subscription (now just waiting for Powerball to be added to that mix)!  The way I figure it, those last 3 dollars won't make a big difference in my pocket, but could potentially result in my lucky day if I purchase a lottery ticket.

May the God who blessed this man bless me too!  Jehovah Jirah...Jesus Christ who turned water into wine and fed thousands from scraps.

Get MONEY!!! Winning a JACKPOT lottery is all the HOPE and CHANGE I desire!!!  NOW give me MONEY!US Flag

The guy who won the presidency in 2008 really won the lottery...he is now millions richer, travels in first class style, and even has a staff that would be the envy of the richest Powerball winner (she has a staff of 2). Every night he goes to sleep, he probably plays the close of Dave Chappelle's Show: I'm rich beyatch!

Yet, if you were a "believer", you wouldn't be able to use your credit card; since you knew that you wouldn't have any money left to pay the "minimum payment" soon due.  Appears that you missed the SEVERAL places in the bible's huge amount of stories [old and new testament] that discuss "God's" displeasure and condemnation with thieves?  Perhaps you aren't a complete, mature "believer."

I see the point you've made.  I would agree except that he has KIDS.  Kids come first and that money could be used on a meal or gas.  Thats just my way of thinking about it. Aren't you glad we have different ways of looking at things cause if we didn't that guy will still have six dollars in his bank instead of thousands.

To everyone.......Again, God doesn't have a particular way to bless someone.

A couple of points I'd like to make.

                    1) God doesn't care who wins the lottery.  Sorry, it's true.  It's all luck, no heavenly intervention.

                    2) This article doesn't tell the whole story.   Please see: http://www.thestate.com/2011/01/14/1646424/lottery-win-saves-home.html

The guy is broke in part because he plays the lottery EVERY day.  Also, instead of saving some money, he plans to blow a large portion of it on a cruise.

This guy will have $0 in his checking account within a month.

That article doesn't really say he spends all his money playing the lottery every day. A random commenter did but didn't bring any evidence of this. Plus with only $6 left why not spend it on the lottery if there's nothing else it can go to?

Also he plans on spending most of it paying off debt, the part for the cruise isn't really a "large portion" considering cruises can be had for $400 per person for a week, or upwards of $1,200 a person (so a max of $4,000 for a week-long cruise).

                    -----

Anyways, this is the type of story I like to hear about lottery winners. Much like the Chris Shaw story who won ~$250 million and had about $30 in his bank account. Imagine the weight lifted off their shoulders.

I believe I have proven my point.  Religious people are squarely focused on the money in one's pocket, wallet, purse, bank account.  I always believe that I can make more money than what I currently have in my possession (faith).  So I think I am the mature one if I should have the faith to spend my last dollars or even charge it on a credit card to believe that I will be blessed with the ability to earn more money to pay all of my obligations.  BTW, I never been late paying any of my obligations since I became an adult (age 18).

And again, I prove my point that religious people will point to something in the Bible that has NOTHING to do with the lottery or those who choose to play it.  Now since you chose to allude to thievery, let's consider this for a moment:  Many of the missionaries flooding into places like Africa and Asia are thieves.  They browbeat the poor natives into tithing their meager earnings so that the church organization can build a mega building amongst the rowhouses.  And the pastors and church elders drive spiffy cars and wear nice clothes financed by the donations of the poor.  So it is a situation of the poor giving to the rich so that the rich can live more abundantly.

So have a nice day and continue playing in secret (I know you are :)).  As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD and play the lottery!
