Perhaps most could live on 50k per year but not all. There are some who pay over 50k per year just in property tax.

If I gave you the interest payments on a $1 million annuity, how or what property taxes you pay (or dont pay) would be your problem. lol. lol. lol.

I can just see someone getting mad over receiving a $50k per year gift and saying: "this is not enough".... lol. lol. lol.

One doesn't need a single winner to get the money circulating from many different people.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who would share the winnings with many others, in my case with 16 relatives plus my partner.  (No, it wouldn't be shared equally or I'd have more gift taxes due than I had money left.)  The younger relatives, especially, would likely be spending the first few years of annual payments rather quickly for some desired upticks in their standard of living.  And there would be plenty of other people sharing the wealth through scholarships and other worthwhile causes for the very reason that I'd never need even a small fraction of a jackpot that size.

One simple way to get around gift taxes once you have exceeded your annual limit (13/26k) is to get re-loadable gift cards. You then have the flexibilty to load these cards on a monthly basis or any other schedule you choose.

Agree, once people get in the habit of receiving gifts they will always yearn for more...just human nature.

Unfortunately it not just the under 30 crowd but over 40% of the population who voted simply based on entitlements.

Frank Be very carefull if you do happen to beat the odds and win this Monster Jackpot.  I would almost Guarantee that if you go Public your Ex-Wife will be lawyering up and coming after your money!  Along with probably half the Gold Diggers in your state.... LOL    If by some chance you do win claim it quietly and get legal help quickly.   But Good Luck and I hope your situation improves.  Many of us have been through the ringer in the past few years with the economy in the shape it's in......It can and WILL get better my Friend.

I think most people know that when you're a big lottery winner, people come out of the woodwork asking for money. I'll take that "problem" though over what my life is now. As for my ex-wife, that's what she is, an ex. We were divorced in 2009 and unless I'm missing something, she's no more entitled to me giving her money (lawyer or not) than anyone else is.

But where are you getting 5%?

Yeah, I was thinking it'll be closer to 1% or maybe 1.5% right now.

I wish Todd would run an article about how many jackpots have been won with self picks vs quick picks. The last time I read something on that subject it was approx 50-50.

Do you have evidence of your article?

Was that a Gail Howard article?

                  I wish Todd would...

I wish todd also would change the emoticon of the leprechaun.

He has a three leaf clover, similar to what you have posted.  A three leaf clover is not lucky.

Its a four leaf clover that is lucky.  I once found a four leaf clover.  It took me about an hour of searching in the grass to find it.  But if you seek you will find.  I am not sure what happened to it.  I should have saved it.

So I wish Todd would change the clover of the leprechaun to a four leaf clover, instead of a three leaf clover.

Also most enlightened people would know that a horshoe is suppose to be turned up so that it can catch the luck.

Your horseshoe is pointed down. So that would lead me to believe that as a golfer, you have spent too much time in the Sun Smiley which also lead me to believe that your brain is FrÏÊÐ, and that you dont really want any other golfers to win.  Least of all any golfer that live in AZ.

                  Thumbs UpI Agree!

really, wih a jackpot as big as thepower ball.$425 million there should be more than one jackpot winner by splitting it five ways rather than one prize. the money will cerculate more and more people will buy more tickets because of the amount of first place jackpots, think about it,it really makes sense to have more winning jackpot ,five is better than one any time.

Unless you happen to be the "one" that wins the jackpot. Then 5 is NOT better than one.I play to win it all,not 1/5 th.

Yeah I just read news reports stating that Sunday's sales were very strong and that they'd decide by midnight tonight whether to increase it tomorrow. My guess would be another 75 million to up it to half a Billion dollars. That'll generate more interest since it's such a "catchy" sounding number.

I wrote that last night at 10pm. Here's hoping that's a sign that the one set of numbers I'll have for tomorrow are as accurate as my prediction was.
