That lottery winner is waiting until AFTER Jan 1, 2014 to claim their winnings which to me is very smart!  they took the time to move, disable their FB page, and change their phone numbers!

Getting their house in order, I agree

Did you exchange a walk on part in the war ?

For a lead role in a cage?

I agree. That lotto spoke person is a moron. If he was getting hounded after a lotto win we would see how he feels about NO HIDING comment. I hate pricks like that.

Also CA law only can pick cash option for 60 days? Even though claim with in a year? That would suck let people get there life in order they are being smart.

Yeah, the lottery guy was kind of a jerk for gloating that you cannot hide.

But as far as the 60 day part, that is not just CA law, that is nationwide. Has to do with IRS rules for time allowed to select a payment option.

It should be really interesting, if the holder of this ticket, is one of the lowly illegal aliens, who service the gazillionaires in the silicon valley.

So what, illegals can claim too, only difference is they withold 30% taxes.

They might get kicked out of the country too, but if you have millions of dollars who cares?  You can live in style, anywhere you want.

I for one am glad you cannot hide. I WANT to know a real live human being has won AND that they dont work for the lottery themselves, other than that I wish all winners well and then go live their lives

Marketing plays an important role in state lotteries, so I don't think he's being a jerk.  It's just one more story for the media. OTOH, it is also very helpful to spread the word, since so many prizes aren't claimed.  I'd make arrangements to disappear for a while after collecting my money, so that's probably what the winner is doing.  Actually, I wouldn't even want to win that kind of money, although it would be nice to help a lot of people.

I agree with you about the 60 day rule.   Also, some winners don't count the days and think it is 2 months, but Dec and Jan are both 31 day months.   The winner is probably talking to an attorney and financial planners, making plans to relocate, etc.

True, but it also gives someone the opportunity to invest in a business, hire people, which is an alternative to being deported, and it is also beneficial to our economy.

Also, we don't know what will happen in the another country, i.e., if the money will be confiscated by the government.  I don't know why people are even discussing this since most people who are living here illegally have family members and friends who are not.

I hope the winner steps forward and go with the cash value option.

This story reminds me of the book by Pearl Buck, The Pearl.

Happiness is not found in material wealth but in keeping one's family safe from the vicissitudes of life.

" He (Those)  who die with the most toys wins" is a fascinating outlook on life. When we are dead, those toys become our estate. Those toys cannot be taken with us. So my question is, Wins What? Surmise that  for some "the prize" is knowing that a legacy was left to one's heirs;which might be some sort of satisfaction. But truth be known, family heirs often create discord if they felt unfairly bequeathed of a legacy, left by their testator.

If "the Prize" was used to help folks in need, with the use of a trust fund, or support a hospital like St Jude's Research Hospital for Children, or a scholarship fund for needy students, then that might be some sort of consolation.

It would be funny if the winner was a U.S. Citizen. Then all this speculation regarding one's status would be moot. It would  be even more of laugh if the winner was a wealthy U.S. Citizen.

Happy New Year and know there will be more big jackpot winners in 2014!

Ps 120:2 "Deliver me, Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue."

Wow! So, it turns out Steve Tran didn't know he had a winning ticket until recently, his tickets were piled up on top of his drawer and even went on vacation without knowing he hit it big.

                          Congrats!!
