Compare those odds to the odds below for Sweet Million game that cost $1. Note that I am comparing the $1 odds.

NUMBERS MATCHED
PRIZE*
CHANCES OF WINNING
6 out of 6
$1,000,000 Cash
1 in: 3,838,380
5 out of 6
$500.00 Cash
1 in: 18,815.59
4 out of 6
$40.00 Cash
1 in: 456.14
3 out of 6
$3.00 Cash
1 in: 32.07

The odds of winning the top prize of $1M on Sweet Million are comparable to the odds of winning the Lotto's second prize (On a $1 Play). The only problem is the Lotto's second prize never pays anywhere close to $1M

And Sweet Million's player base is even smaller than Lotto's, if the fact that barely anyone ever wins the million is any indication.

If there's a silver lining to Lotto's low sales figures, it's that the first and second prizes tend to build up quite a bit before anyone wins.  Wednesday's jackpot is $8.9 million, and the second prize (if won) should come in at around $600K.

Lotto's eclipse and the rise of video slots fits in with a larger trend of gamblers gravitating toward bigger jackpots and faster games, said John Warren Kindt, professor emeritus of business and legal policy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

What is the opinion of this expert on how the moral of the people were literally stepped on, and the consequence in decreased sales, when they increased the balls from 44 to 59?

Agreed.  If they want to pump up Lotto sales, they should lop 10 balls off the matrix and advertise Lotto as an easier-to-win alternative to Powerball and Mega Millions.

That is a GOOD point, I can't even FIND the last SM jackpot winner.  But when you hit Lotto you win MORE than just 1 million.  Right now it would take 8 SM hits to WIN the same amount in SM.

To me, Sweet Million is no more than a souped up Take 5. LOL

I know the game pales in comparison to Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot wise. My thoughts are it's still more money than I would of had prior to winning.  I know some people scoff at winning 2 million, but I view it as I could accomplish enough to make things better for my family, and myself winning.  Yes since moving back to NY I play all the NY games.  Well all except win 3, win 4 or the Scratch offs.

The New York lottery is too cheap. New York lottery games payouts are a JOKE.

I agree. $500 for a second prize is not good at all. New York lottery should stop the Sweet Million game. It has not been a successful game.
