Like Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker of the PTL (Praise The Lord) club they only think of money and themselves.  The good news though is that assuming that their God truly does exist He will surely punish them for their deeds on earth when their time comes for atonement.  This pastor also will atone for his sins on the day of judgement assuming he is making all this up.  Hopefully there are no witnesses to her ever promising him the money and hopefully her lawyer is tough and simply tells him and/or his lawyer where they can stick it.

You would right except that she promised it and he went and put up money on her word to buy the land. AND the minister has a 3 hour recording to the facts that verify everything he says. So for once I actually believe this minister only because he has a 3 hr recording. And that will be held up in court and she will owe it a verbal contract is as good as a written contract especially with the recording she has no recourse. She bails out a drug dealer time and time again but to do some good she decides to go back on her word

"but to do some good she decides to go back on her word" You do realize she has tithe/given to her her church also we do not know if she has given to any other charities. SMH

These types of comments really p!$$ me off.

She already gave her church $700,000 and you're actually going to judge her for not wanting to have any dealings with this Pharisee? You think because he passed a theology course he's entitled to someone else's money?

She started her own foundation to help people so obviously she wants to do good.

He's on record as saying she never promised him any money. A person should be able to say, "hey, that retreat sounds like a great idea. I'd love to get involved. Let me have my accountant go over the particulars with you" and if after scrutinizing all the details realize they don't actually want to hand over millions of dollars to a greedy, unhinged, entitled, self-righteous, devious charlatan, how exactly is that a bad thing?

People like you have a lot to say about how lottery winners throw away their money on nonsense, but then still complain when they don't.

            Well said Teddi I Agree!

She gave $700,000 to HER church (I think to build a sanctuary).  She did not know this grifter before she won the lottery.

Someone should sue him for running a Ponzi scheme. He should change his last name to "Offering" or "Loot".

As far as the 3 hour recording; unless I missed something no part of that recording cited that she would give 1.5 million to this dirtbag. I only read that she would like to help.

If you ask me he is using this as an excuse to backslide, fall of the wagon and increase his drug use.

I'm not a lawyer/attorney but I was a paralegal  years ago and in my State it is against the law to record someone without their knowledge but only if it's via phone where you must get consent first. It's perfectly legal to record a person under Ohio's revised code 2933.51 like on a public street or public place without consent where no privacy is expected.

Maria and the pastor's situation took place at the church which was a personal and private meeting and can fall under the wiretapping law - he could be facing criminal and civil charges should Marie and her lawyer choose to go that route.

I don't know the laws in N.C. but if it's anything comparable to Ohio then I think he will withdraw his lawsuit if this was recorded without her consent. The $10 million will be the least of his problems and he will find himself having to defend lawsuits from Marie.

She has the money to get a very competent lawyer and I would never try going up against someone that has that kind of money that would be able to counter sue me for everything I have. He would be a fool to continue on with the lawsuit.

NC only requires one party's consent to record any conversation, be it in person or by phone. This means, among other things, that you can lawfully record any conversation in which you are a participant, without the consent of the other person.

As soon as I read that the pastor was led to Marie Homes home to pray with her, that was enough for me. All it was about was to scam her out of her lottery money! I don't know why there isn't some law that would state that oral agreements would not be allowed in state lotteries! I've stated this before. Another court case, of  " He said she said " Ridiculous.

This sort of thing is fairly easy to find;  I Googled your yellow highlighted text:

                          North Carolina Recording Law

North Carolina's wiretapping law is a "one-party consent" law. North Carolina makes it a crime to intercept or record any "wire, oral, or electronic communication" unless one party to the conversation consents. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 15A-287. Thus, if you operate in North Carolina, you may record a conversation or phone call if you are a party to the conversation or you get permission from one party to the conversation in advance. That said, if you intend to record conversations involving people located in more than one state, you should play it safe and get the consent of all parties.

I read the entire story and in my heart I believe that the Preacher set her up so he can get hands on Holmes money too. She won that money and he started then plotting on how he can get rich from her money. He ask for 2 million, why he wants to sue for 10 million. One thing I think is that he wants the rest to put in his pocket.
