It took 26 years for his numbers to win big
Robert Lundstedt was feeling lucky Monday morning. So lucky that the Bridgewater, Massachusetts, carpenter bought nine Mass Cash tickets from four different locations for that day's drawing, all using his usual combination of numbers: 1, 7, 11, 26, and 30.
And that feeling paid off.
As he checked the lottery results while buying paper towels the next day, Lundstedt, 56, discovered that he had bought nine $100,000 winning tickets, his wife of 29 years said.
Virginia Lundstedt, 52, said he would usually only play the number twice in one day, but this time he told her, "I just had a hunch."
Virginia said her husband has been playing the same numbers for 26 years.
"That's how old we were when he started playing that number," she said. "When he started playing Mass Cash, I was 26 and he was 30."
Her husband also just liked the numbers 1, 7, and 11, she said.
Before the drawing Monday night, Robert gave one of his nine tickets to his daughter Kristen, 24, and one to his son Brian, 21. The family of four visited the lottery's headquarters together Wednesday to claim their prizes.
Robert plans to use his $700,000 to pay off the mortgage on his home.
Kristen and Brian both said they will put their $100,000 prizes toward their college educations. Kristen will soon start her career as a preschool teacher after earning her master's degree in special education from Endicott College. Brian will start his senior year at Bridgewater State University this fall.
"It's crazy how he did this, and it came out amazing," Virginia said. "We're just very happy about it."
Massachusetts State Lottery spokesman Christian Teja said the odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 324,632. Because each Mass Cash ticket is only $1, he said, it isn't uncommon for winners to have purchased more than one.
"Over the course of the year, there will be several occasions where the same winner will have multiple winning tickets for one drawing," Teja said.
Lundstedt purchased four of his winning tickets at Trucchi's Supermarket at 53 East Center St. in West Bridgewater, two tickets at Quick Stop at 47 North Main St. in West Bridgewater, two more at The Corner Market at 227 Matfield St. in West Bridgewater, and one at Cumberland Farms at 33 Main St. in Bridgewater.
After learning that he had won, Lundstedt called his wife and told her to come home. When she arrived, he showed her one of the tickets.
"Oh, my God, Rob, you finally won!" she told him, she said.
"Nope," he said. Then he plunked down his other winning tickets, one by one, she said.
"He kept throwing tickets in front of me and I'm, like, 'Oh my God, are you freaking kidding me?' It was crazy," he said.

ATTA BOY Robert
............What a great story !!! Way to believe & be persistent. Enjoy your newly acquired wealth and having no mortgage.
Read this yesterday and just re-read it; missed the sentence same numbers for 26 years. Talk about perseverance.
Without sounding like a spokesman for the MA lottery, they have brought back Mass Cash Season tickets again. Go to there website to read all about it. Contemplating doing this...we'll see.
A great Dad sharing with his kids and so happy for all of them.
I live in New York and I too am contemplating buying a Mass Cash Season ticket because they're on sale until August 4th.
Players need NOT live in Massachusetts to buy a Mass Cash subscription! The Mass Lottery will take a Mass Cash subscription via the U.S. mail from anywhere in the U.S.A. Google Massachusetts Lottery and check out the details on buying season tickets on their website.
Mass Cash carries 1 in 324,632 odds. The jackpot is NOT parimuteul which is why the recent winner won $900,000. He bought nine jackpot winning tickets each worth $100,000. Mass Cash players in Massachusetts are well aware of what this winner did as this kind of thing happens fairly often with Mass Cash. Evidence/proof of that fact can be viewed on The Mass Lottery's website.
I'm thinking that I'll buy a Mass Cash Season Ticket with five identical lines for six months. G5
Robert sure knows how to dig in, and it paid off.
GiveFive: You CANNOT buy any subscription through the U.S. Mail including the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission.
They had sent me FOUR letters about this MassCash; in fine print it said only to mailed within Mass. So I called them and she said No, you can't send us a check, but you can buy them over the phone using a credit card'. Unfortunately multi-state lotteries such as PB, MM and L4L I have a friend or my Brother get those for me. They have to be purchased in state, then they mail out your ticket after you fill out the required information on-line or mail it to them to do.
Megabucks Doubler can be called in from out of state too.
Friday the 13th...let's make it a lucky one for an LP member!
It's as though Lady Luck kept saying $200k isn't enough. When he ramped things up, she responded, now that I can do. Badda bing. Badda boom!
Love this story
Interesting. The New York Lottery does allow subscriptions via the U.S. Mail but only for subscribers with a NY mailing address. I think you’re saying the same thing about the Mass Lottery if i’m not misinterpreting your post. That’s probably why you can only get a subscription form at a lottery retailer in Mass. It is NOT available for downloading on the Mass Lottery’s website.
No big deal. I’ll call them with my credit card handy. G5
Well they have swedish names so here come some swedish congrats!
Grattis till lottovinsten! Slösa nu inte bort allt på smågodis!
Awesome
Gotta double up triple quadruple etc., each play even when playing pick 3 to pick 4 and all big games."
He was so smart to do that. What a beautiful win.$$$ and he is only in
early to mid 50's plenty of time, to SPEND/INVEST/ENJOY IT ALL,
with the kids, the family those he love.
Congratulations.
I misspoke; she said they cannot accept checks to play the Mass. lottery subscription service. Mea culpa.
Robert and Virginia Lundstedt raised two wonderful kids. I can see them both doing very good things in their lives.
Congrats to the Lundstedt family!!
That is wonderful
No problem. If they don't accept checks, do you know whether or not they'll accept credit card info on a subscription form mailed to them? I cant imagine why they wouldn't if they'll take credit card info over the phone.
The reason I ask is because as I mentioned in my 2nd post subscription forms are only available at lottery retailers. (They're not available for downloading via The Mass Lottery website) I have to drive up to Mass tomorrow anyway (a little less than an hour's drive) so I was thinking I'd stop and get a form.
Tell ya what I'll do - If any one has been following this discussion that does not live in Massachusetts and is interested in a Mass Cash subscription - I'll stop and get a form and post here what I find out. G5
Last I knew they don't take American Express cards. Others are OK. You call them up, give them the #'s or QP for MM Doubler or Mass Cash. Then they mail you a 3 X 8 or so heavy paper ticket with perforations to take out the ticket if you want. If you visit in person the retailer prints out the paper ticket along with another piece of paper that you do on-line or mail it to them and they fill it out for you. Last time I believe visiting there then they mail you a confirmation ticket as in the 4th sentence.
In our previous posts, neither I nor Bleudog101 had a single clue as to what we were discussing!! We got kinda close, but we mangled it anyway!!
I just got back from my ride up to Massachusetts. Here's the correct information regarding buying a Mass Cash 2018 Season Ticket.
Players may purchase a Mass Cash Season ticket from a lottery retailer using cash. When they do that, along with the season ticket, the lottery terminal will print out a registration form. The player MUST register the ticket with The Mass Lottery, and they can do that one of two ways. It can be done over the phone by calling the Mass Lottery's 800 number, or it can be done online via The Mass Lottery's website. But the ticket MUST BE REGISTERED.
Players can buy a Mass Cash season ticket over the phone by calling the Mass Lottery's 800 number and use a credit card to pay for it. However, American Express cards can not be used, because AMEX will not allow their card holders to use their card to buy lottery tickets.
Players located anywhere in the U.S.A absolutely can buy a Mass Cash Season ticket via the U.S. Mail, and they may use a check to pay for it. The Mass Lottery definitely will accept a personal check. The player may also use any credit card (other than American Express) when buying via The U.S. Mail. Season tickets purchased from The Mass Lottery will also have to be registered.
Groups may purchase Mass Cash season tickets, but only one person will "own" the ticket. All members of the group must be identified to The Mass Lottery.
All of the above info is out on The Mass Lottery's website, but you really have to dig to find it.
Finally, you may be wondering if I bought a Mass Cash Season Ticket. I did not! But that's because I bought a fourteen day Mass Cash ticket with 5 identical lines on it which cost me $70. In two weeks I'm going back to Massachusetts to buy a six month Mass Cash season ticket at a retailer using cash. I'll register it online via The Mass Lottery's website. Players may chose their own numbers or do a Quick Pick when buying a Season Ticket at either a retailer or from The Mass Lottery. They may also buy multiple Season Tickets or buy multiple lines on one ticket. G5
It's funny though, when I called she specifically she they cannot take an out of state check.
Yet, like you said, if you go to the bottom of their page and click Season tickets it specifically says you can send in a check.
In years past I'd have my Brother, friend or myself get the season tickets. Back then I used the mail in option to get the registration done. Now do it on-line.
Givefive: My favorite Lottery game provider, world's largest BTW is in the process of upgrading all of the Mass.Lottery machines and getting rid of the big old blue dot matrix ones. How has that progressed? Remember that lady that won the highest ever USA jackpot (Powerball) there won on one of those old blue clunkers. You'd know right away what I'm talking about since you personally visited the store.
Good luck to on Mass Cash; plenty of winners on that lottery.
The convenience store I went into had all the newest equipment. Didn't see the old machine.
Hope something pans out for me on my 14 day Mass Cash ticket. Thanks! G5
Thank you GiveFive for the updates. Yeah Soledad, IGT is on it.
Still contemplating getting a year of Mass Cash for me and my LP friend whom has become a great friend. (Hope she doesn't read this!).
I have also bought a 1 year season ticket for Mass Cash for my regular numbers. I might buy one with my moms numbers on it also later this month maybe. I think they said if you pay for it in cash at a retailer and you choose to register it online, it has to be from a device located in Massachusetts. I registered mine online and that's what I think it said. Im not sure if I remember correctly. And I play multiple times for 1 line like a lot of people do in MA. It really is the best odds to win $100,000 on a $1 bet. MA does not do raffles anymore, so I think of playing 1 line multiple times like a raffle game lol. Ill play the same line anywhere between 2 and 11 times. The times I play the same line more than 5 times are for special occasions or if I feel lucky on whatever day it is. The most I ever won was matching 3 numbers for $10 when I played it 10 times. I won $100.
If you pay for a Mass Cash Season Ticket in cash at a retailer and register it online, it does not have to come from a device located in Massachusetts. The registration form on The Mass Lottery's website has a drop down box with every state in the U.S. contained in it.
That's a smart way to think about the cost of playing a single line multiple times. Not to mention YOU got to choose the numbers you wanted to play. (Although players can do a Quick Pick if they so choose.) Raffle tickets typically cost $20, are only good for one drawing, and the number on your raffle ticket is assigned to you by the lottery terminal.
Yesterday I bought a Mass Cash ticket with 5 identical lines on it that's good for 14 drawings. My ticket cost me 70 bucks. That's 5 dollars per drawing - so I'm paying 5 dollars per line instead of 1 dollar per line. True enough, that's an expensive line as compared to Mega Millions or PowerBall's 2 bucks a line, but then my odds are 324,000 to 1 to win $500,000 as compared to MM/PB's 7 million to 1 to win one million dollars. My ticket was also pretty cheap in comparison to a 20 dollar raffle ticket too. And I got to pick the numbers I wanted to play. G5
Just ordered my Mass Cash Season Tickets. I told her I've been hounding you guys to bring this back and she said many, many folks requested it. No problems ordering from KY.
The pre-registered tickets arrive first week in August.
When they post the Mass Cash winnings, it seems about almost 1/2 are QP which my tickets are. Odds are pretty good. PB & MM will not be a choice for my Season Tickets, though just under six months left on them---you never know what will happen.
Still contemplating Lucky 4 Life which has done OK by my standards, though still hasn't paid the ticket off.
Oddly there was a tenth winning ticket in this draw purchased in Middleborough, which is the next town south of Bridgewater, and it was apparently an entirely different purchaser.
Robert plans to use his $700,000 to pay off the mortgage on his home.
Kristen and Brian both said they will put their $100,000 prizes toward their college educations.
good idea, but what why the hell buy a home that costs that much... they must already be pretty wealthy hm?
Homes in my home state, are, as we would say WICKED expensive!
