It was the 3 middle numbers that threw everyone off. 13-14-15, most people never play numbers in sequential order like that. So whenever they are matched in order it's usually because of a random ouick-pick.

So basically people won't play unless it hits 2 billion minimum now lol.

Indeed, 7-13-14-15-18-09  was some random quick pick because 16 people got the exact same quick pick for one million dollars each. It is wild how the numbers are so low. The entire sequence only adds up to 76. This definitely does look like birthday numbers. As the article states 215 people won 10K each as 4 of the 5 numbers and mega ball matched. This shows how many people continually play birthday numbers. This billion dollar jackpot is the best time to share a jackpot with 215 people if they had won. Also it is the main reason not to play birthday numbers.

 They do seem obsessed with the huge jackpots. Who in their right mind would want 1.3 billion dollars. What could you possibly do with it. Please, don't say invest it and let it grow. For what exactly. Nothing but headaches and problems.

BB, honestly, we all know it isn't really  $1.3 Billion(should you chose the annuity) due to what you get removed for taxes(24%) before a check is cut.. When was that last time a winner took the annuity ?? 2015(I believe, on the PB)....

So $707 Million and change, minus 37% Fed tax is probably the real figure or roughly $446 Million & change take home.

Perhaps the winner is a fair minded person who wants to set up friends and family and charities....Keep $50M(or less) and give the rest away.That should leave someone all they want for the rest of their life. The good news is that the winner can do great things with that kind of finances to help others.

There will be initial growing pains with distributing that kind of wealth but it won't last and you can always have someone on retainer to say"no/denied"  for you.

I can see helping out a friend if they need help but I do not have to take care of friends. I have a couple of friends who tell everyone they will "take care of them" if they win a huge jp. My response has always been that I do not need to be "taken care of." I have done well financially. I would feel "bought."

My parents offered me a  huge down-payment on my first home and I said no thanks. It felt great accomplishing that on my own.

Luckily in KY for in store purchases ONLY if you hit the big one and have a group they will cut separate checks.   An IRS form (don't know the #) is required.  KLC will not honor this for on-line purchases thinking that just one person bought the ticket??  Don't remember how many separate checks they will cut...will send them a FB msg about this.  I know, unless it has changed, that in the CA winner's handbook they will cut 50 checks.

Just check the population of those states compared to each other to get an idea of how many times more tickets get sold. Never mind the fact that the per capita income is higher and they have more discretionary money to purchase tickets than an ex Appalachian coal miner might.

Well billybucks judging by your post, you don't have much of an imagination or a giving spirit. It is not really about one person winning the entire 1.3 billion because he/she will not be getting that anyway after taxes. Most people want that kind of money for themselves and to help family, friends and community. There is indeed more need than ever before these day.

A lottery ticket is a bearer instrument. It is not the same thing legally as a financial contract.

A lottery ticket is also backed by the state law. The state lottery is not a stranger on any level.

Not enforceable.  It would be dismissed.  I am sure the cashier says that all day long. If the cashier or anyone contributed money towards the purchase, then that is a different situation.

Ticket sales aren't very robust.  Last draw only about 37% of the possible combos were covered.  Seems like the Powerball fiasco last year has ruined people's affinity for the lottery.  Also, it's after the holidays so not as much disposable income is available for people to buy multiple tickets.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a bump later in the day.  The worksheet for this one said the supported jackpot was 1.364 billion, but the worksheet for the next drawing shows it coming up about short of the advertised value, at 1.344 billion. Despite the apparently lower sales some miracle has bumped the cash value up to 724.6 million, which, through some other miracle, has resulted in the new cash:annuity ratio producing the same 1.35 billion advertised jackpot.

If it rolls they'll announce a jackpot of $1.62 billion. As of now they're listing a supported jackpot of 1.642 and maybe  we'll finally see bigger sales than they've forecasted.
