Democrat gubernatorial candidate Sue Bell Cobb laid out a detailed plan for a state lottery Wednesday, saying the proposal would put Alabamians in a better position to get higher paying jobs.
The former Alabama Supreme Court chief justice said under her plan, lottery proceeds will fund K-4 and childcare programs in the state, fully fund career tech at hospitals, and fully fund the gap with federal Pell Grants.
In a video released along with the email, Cobb said a l

Alabama lottery plan approved by Senate committee
By a vote of 5-3, the Alabama Senate Tourism Committee on Thursday approved Sen. Del Marsh's (R-Anniston) lottery and gambling expansion plan. It now proceeds to the full Senate for consideration.
If passed into law, Alabama voters would have the opportunity to approve a constitutional amendment legalizing a state-sponsored lottery and casino gaming. That vote would likely take place September 15, two weeks before the end of the current fiscal year. The bill would tax casino earnings at 13 pe

Wyoming Legislature works on lottery bill compromise
Don't bet just yet on a bill that would allow a lottery and multistate games such as Powerball in Wyoming.
The state House of Representatives on Monday voted not to agree with changes the Senate made to the proposal despite the measure's main sponsor supporting the Senate version.
Last week, the Senate amended the bill to change how the lottery's proceeds would be used.
The Senate version specifies that any proceeds outside of the expenses and prizes will go to support the state school

Tenn. Lottery CEO blames lagging sales on Powerball
Hey, you wanted to be in the gambling business...
Tennessee officials are hedging their bets on Powerball to lift the lottery out of a sales slump that could hurt revenue projections for education.
Lottery CEO Rebecca Paul Hargrove says lottery sales have been running about $400,000 less per week than last year since the fiscal year began July 1.
She blames Powerball. The jackpot went over $300 million at one point last year but hasn't reached that level yet this year. Bigger jackpots i

Illinois Gov. won't reveal data on lottery sale plan
The Blagojevich administration said Tuesday it won't release a consultant's work on how much money the state could make by selling or leasing the Illinois state lottery. The administration compared such a move to sharing playbooks with rival sports teams.
Republicans have called for public disclosure.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich last week proposed privatizing the lottery to provide a bonanza of cash for education over the next few years. He said New York-based consultant Goldman Sachs estimated t
