$1.35 BILLION: Mega Millions jackpot set to deliver unimaginable wealth
Protected with a contract.
Think about it. When you buy a lottery ticket at a retailer, you have just entered into a legal contract with a stranger.

Employee strike at Québec Lottery halts introduction of new Lotto 6/49 in the province
It was a 3 year contract and the $1 was added to whatever wage increase was agreed upon in lieu of taking the profit sharing. Don't recall if they took the profit sharing when that contract expired.
They still got a minimum of $6000 regardless of a profit or not.

Ireland National Lottery spent majority of unclaimed prize money on advertising
Who are the Einsteins that negotiated this contract, on behalf of the state, with the lottery operator? I certainly hope they didn't get a performance bonus!

Maryland: 12/1 - 12/31/2022
This had to have been in the works for quite awhile in order to just drop the press release and schedule to go live 1 week later. This just shows how little the MD Lottery cares about the players. I know some palms got greased in all this. Good question jarasan
1. Who picked Smart Play International to get the contract?
2. Was there even a bidding process for the contract?
3. Why weren't there a public hearing so players could at the very least voice their concerns?

NY Dream Team 2023
Funny thing is Tony Romo got big tv contract for 10 years for 180 million. He was good during his initial 3 years. He got paid and he stopped preparing for broadcasts and tries to bs his way through each game. At least that's how it seems
I've seen many pro athletes pull that move while playing...start to suck after getting big money but but never as tv announcers lol.

$1.35 BILLION: Mega Millions jackpot set to deliver unimaginable wealth
A lottery ticket is a bearer instrument. It is not the same thing legally as a financial contract.
A lottery ticket is also backed by the state law. The state lottery is not a stranger on any level.

Iowa Lottery retailer accuses store manager of buying ticket he knew won $100,000

Number two the store get to keep the winning ticket because the store is responsible for unsold ticket based on the contract with the lottery. Matter of fact this is not the first time it happened . Another cashier sold herself a multi million dollar ticket just like this before. The store did investigation wen

Despite sales influx from $2B Powerball, Massachusetts Lottery ticket sales falter
The Massachusetts State Lottery Tuesday stated it could be in some financial trouble regarding its overall sales for the fiscal year, despite the massive ticket sales generated by the recent Powerball jackpot worth $2 billion.
According to Lottery Interim Director Mark Bracken, as of Sunday, lottery sales for the 2023 fiscal year are $22.5 million less than what they were for fiscal 2022. This includes overall instant ticket and scratch ticket sales, but it's an improvement from the $60 mill
