Harry Reid pushing to legalize online poker for American casinos, horse tracks
Candidly, Barney Frank's legislation earlier this year was better.
In this months PBA news letter I read that Reid was getting involved with the online gaming bill and my first thoughts were it was about the Nevada casinos getting a piece of the action . It would be much simpler if Congress just passed legislation allowing all American business interests to get involved.
This biggest problem I see with Reid's bill is that it might create a monopoly forcing U.S. players to only play in Am

Lottery bill could limit winner's take
Here is my humble opinion on the matter: I do not think that the state of Michigan should pass this legislation.
True, people who are on welfare or otherwise poor really should not play the lottery - they have better things on which to use their money - and if they do play, they should play only with the money they have. If they do win, then they will not need food stamps anymore; but if they do not win, and they have gambled away money that they do not have, they will face the consequences o

Federal online gambling legislation clears big hurdle
Maybe there are some teeth in the push for legalization and sensible federal regulation of the Internet gambling industry after all.
Sponsored by Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) chairman of the House Financial Services Committee HR 2267 is a bill designed to establish federal oversight of an online gambling industry that currently resides in murky legal waters for U.S. players.
It passed overwhelmingly 41-22 via committee vote last week, advancing the legislation to the House floor, where it h

Antigua gets favorable WTO gambling ruling over U.S.
The United States has suffered a new setback in a four-year-old legal battle with Antigua and Barbuda over U.S. restrictions on Internet gambling, a U.S. trade official said on Thursday.
At issue is an April 2005 World Trade Organization ruling against U.S. prohibitions on online horse race betting. Since then, the U.S. Congress has passed additional legislation to ban certain financial transactions related to gambling over the Internet.
Gretchen Hamel, a spokesman for the U.S. Trade Repre

Okla. lawmaker aims to stop lottery winners from staying anonymous
An Oklahoma state senator from Edmond plans to introduce legislation to prohibit people from forming anonymous trusts after learning they have won a lottery prize.
Sen. Clark Jolley, R-Edmond, said this proposed legislation stems from instances including one this week where a trust claimed a lottery prize.
We were told the lottery would be open, it would be transparent full accountability. We would know the name and towns of everyone who had won, Jolley said. I think winners being a

Wyoming closer to starting a lottery
A bill that would bring a lottery to Wyoming made it past a second hurdle Thursday, prompting some to wonder how far it will go this year.Similar bills in recent years haven't progressed far.Rep. Wayne Reese, D-Cheyenne, said he thinks this year's legislation will make it through the House and be delivered to the Senate. This year, as in the past, the argument for having a lottery is based in the amount of money that goes outside state lines as Wyoming residents drive to Nebraska, South Dakota, M

California Lottery Drops Gambling Themes Idea
Citing widespread opposition, California Assemblyman George Plescia on Monday dropped lottery-backed legislation that would have added Nevada-style gambling themes to the state-run games.Though he quietly deleted the amendment, the San Diego Republican said he's pushing the rest of his controversial measure -- which would boost lottery prizes and slice struggling schools' share of revenue -- in the hope of fostering lotto mania that would then increase education's take.Even with the deletion of
