Last try for Alabama lottery dies in Senate committee
Legislation that would have authorized a public vote to establish an Alabama Powerball like lottery died this afternoon in a state Senate committee.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Paul Sanford, R-Huntsville, was effectively killed when a majority of senators in the Tourism and Marketing Committee voted against it. That included both Republicans and Democrats.

By hook or by crook: lawmakers relentless on taking away online rights
Congressional leaders are trying to forge a compromise that would allow them to push through legislation banning most forms of Internet gambling, aides said on Thursday.
Top House and Senate lawmakers have been trying to break a logjam that has stalled the Internet gambling legislation by attaching it to any one of a number of must-pass spending bills before the end of the year, aides said. However, they have yet to agree on a final deal.

Online gambling threatened by U.S. legislators
Editor's Note: Lottery Post is firmly against any attempts to limit the peoples' right to do as they wish on the Internet, including online gaming. Although anti-gambling lobbyists and legislators continue to sound the same alarm about gambling by minors and gambling addiction , we believe both of those arguments apply to such a small fraction of people that the rights of the vast majority of the Internet population are being taken away needlessly and carelessly. People have a right to do

A sponsor of sports betting legislation in New York said the bill likely would allow for in-person wagering at places like Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden.
