New York: 5/1 - 5/31/2011
I'm sorry to disagree with you newgranny718, but yes you can scan any instant ticket at the lottery checker macines (they will tell you if how much you've won), or you can scan them at the ticket vending machines. You need to scratch off the front where all the codes are scan the computerized bar.

$3 dollar Crossword and Bingo games
Here in PA, there's $3 Goldbar Crossword 3rd edition and $5 2nd edition Bingo. I have to scratch the whole thing and re-check because there are no codes here (still mad about that.) I won $20 once on the previous Goldbar Crossword and $15 on Bingo. I think that is the most. I've won $20 with Bonus Block Bingo $3 game.

Instant Machines!
Definitely don't go there anymore, TheGameGrl! I had that happen once at Giant with a BWS ticket. It cut the whole scratch area off. They gave me my $10 back. As for the Lottery, they usually won't give much satisfaction. After all, they took off the visual ticket win/loss codes with no regard for the players.

Kentucky Lottery Codes?
Hi, do you know where can I get a list of s.c. lottery codes? It's my understanding that some scratch off cards have these markings that you can tell if they are winners before you buy them...Now there is one thing...The folks that say the 'L' in the corner or some other marking indicates a winner is great except here the clerks sell the Next Ticket on the Roll so it's not like you can sort through, find a code and then buy that ticket...what goodis the code if you can't see it until you buy the

unscratched tickets
most of the times the letter or letters are codes that stand for the amount of money you won or didn't win..example T,E,N (10) T,W,N ($20) but i have in the past won a larger amount of money and the codes made no sense at all to me...so personally i ALWAYS scratch the whole ticket and i too would take them home if they were left behind...you never know

What determines winning ticket (scratching is for entertainment only)
States usually regard a winning scratch ticket as a ticket in which the bar codes and validation codes match lottery records. The scratch ticket's front latex covering is provided for "entertainment purposes only." Here is Oregon's lottery rules regarding this under Rule 177-050-0024 Method of Determining Winners: "...If the ticket is a winner, Lottery's computer system will identify it as such based on the official bar code or bar code number. Removing the latex covering on the front of

cashword 3 letter codes
The codes are the reason why I dont play scratch offs in NY or Michigan, because you can basically tell once you see a letter whether you won or not, it takes away from the fun of the game or scratching that last number. Thank God Illinois doesnt have that.

Don't Rely Only On the Three Letter Codes
In many states, the three letter codes in the play area of scratch tickets are only to help ticket retailers confirm lower prize amounts (usually $599 and less). On larger prizes over $599 where you have to go to a lottery office for payout, the letters are meaningless. I have seen a few big winners here in Florida posted at a regional lottery office, some with the code NVF which is also a non-winning code used frequently on $599 and lower prizes.Do not go by the three letter codes because a
