A father and son duo from Massachusetts was found guilty of fraud this past weekend after the Massachusetts Lottery recognized an unusual number of prize claims tied to the pair within the past decade.
Ali Jaafar, 63, and his son, Yousef Jaafar, 29, both of Watertown, were convicted of multiple counts related to a ten-percenting scheme, in which they would cash winning lottery tickets on behalf of the actual winners to avoid taxes and receive tax refunds.

Convicted lottery rigger Eddie Tipton was released from prison on Friday following a series of events that had his freedom in limbo.

Massachusetts man sues 2 women, claiming they cheated him out of $4 million lottery prize
A Massachusetts man says two women cheated him out of $4 million in lottery winnings by taking advantage of his inability to read or speak English.
The man, Joao Luis DaPonte, said in a civil complaint filed earlier this month in Bristol Superior Court that when he initially scratched the Lottery ticket he purchased at Cafe Sao Paulo on Bolton Street in New Bedford on Nov. 23, he believed he had won $4,000 since the ticket said $4MIL below the number 26.

Few filing claims in $4.3 million lottery scam settlement; deadline Jan. 7
Victims of the largest lottery scam in U.S. history are expected to pocket only a small fraction of a $4.3 million settlement because of a lack of applicants laying claim to the money, court records show.
But it's not too late.
Claims can be made online through Jan. 7 and those for $10 or less require no proof of purchase.

MUSL paid $1.5 million to settle lawsuit over rigged jackpot
A national lottery group agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by an Iowa man who claimed that a $9 million jackpot he won in 2011 would have been bigger if the previous one hadn't been fixed by an insider.
