A judge has delayed the trial for a former lottery official accused of fixing jackpots in several states.
Former Multi-State Lottery Association security director Eddie Tipton had been scheduled to stand trial Jan. 6 in Des Moines, Iowa.
But Tipton waived his right to a speedy trial last week, and his attorney asked for a delay. Judge Jeffrey Farrell last week reset the trial for July 18.

Jackpot-fixing investigation expands to more state lotteries
The allegations read like a movie plot: a lottery industry insider installs an undetectable software program in the computers that pick winning numbers so he can know them in advance. He enlists accomplices to play those numbers and collect the jackpots. And they enrich themselves for years until a misstep unravels their high-tech scheme.
Eddie Tipton, former security director of the Multi-State Lottery Association, has been accused of tampering with drawings in four states over a six-year pe

Iraqi's Oregon jackpot raises questions on lottery sales
The man from Baghdad showed up unannounced this month in a state office building in Salem, Ore., with a piece of paper in his hand that he said was worth $6.4 million. He politely asked that his name be kept quiet, then told state officials that he had set up a local bank account into which they should deposit money annually. And then he went away, richer and more mysterious than when he arrived.
It was not an ordinary day at the Oregon Lottery.
The story started with small details, lotter

In lotteries, lucky numbers will only win you less
It goes without saying the chance of winning the lottery is minuscule. But if you play the numbers, you should know that certain tactics commonly used to make picks reduce the likelihood of collecting the maximum payout.
Grab a pencil, and we'll try it out.
Let's say a $1 lottery ticket allows you to choose six numbers between 1 and 75. Write down your choices and make a mental note regarding the significance of each one.
