A bill that would allow Gov. Mitch Daniels to outsource the Hoosier Lottery would prohibit a private operator from offering keno, video lottery games, pari-mutuel wagering on horses or dogs and games based on winners of races or other sporting events.

Around the United States, Christmastime raffle games have become the hottest ticket of the year, with most of the game tickets selling out well before the drawing date.

Indiana Gov. wants to sell lottery
As details continued to leak out Wednesday about Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' plan to privatize the Hoosier Lottery, reaction from area lawmakers was less than encouraging.
Daniels is expected to unveil the proposal which would likely raise money for higher education at 11 a.m. today.
Wells County Republican Rep. Jeff Espich was briefed on the idea a few weeks ago along with other key lawmakers.

Lottery chief hurt as crowd grabs potentially valuable balloons
Indiana Lottery officials had hoped to parade into Pan American Plaza in Indianapolis on Wednesday afternoon and let 200 red balloons some carrying prizes fly into the sky and ultimately into the hands of some lucky Hoosiers.

Indiana Lottery gets new director
The Hoosier Lottery is getting a new director.
Kathryn Densborn of Indianapolis, a Republican who lost in her bid to oust Democratic state Rep. David Orentlicher in the November election, will begin work at the agency next week and will take over as director in January.

Nine auto parts workers whose factory is slated to close at the end of the year have something to celebrate: a $9 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot.

Indiana Lottery may spend $1M to settle lawsuit
A lawsuit over a winning $5 scratch-off lottery ticket may end up costing the state of Indiana more than $1 million.
Indianapolis resident Tom H. Smith bought a $2 instant win ticket in 1996 and won $5. But he didn't try to collect the prize until months later and was told it was too late for the payout.
Smith appealed to lottery headquarters, saying he had no way of knowing the game had ended, and eventually filed a lawsuit against the Hoosier Lottery.

Police offer tips to avoid lottery scams
Calumet City, Indiana, police are investigating several reported scams that have misled people into thinking they have won a substantial amount of money from the lottery.
