Surely there has to be a town somewhere in the U.S. with "Luck" or "Lucky" in its name.

Rip Snorter, everyone

Re: Kahuna. We had another player, he was a school principal in Hawaii. He always had two ladies with him, and when he rolled the dice they would shake tea leaves at him, all three of them chanting, "Kahuna Kahuna Kahuna." They made a show of it, too. He himself was a $5- $10 bettor and no real threat to the house but guys who bet more would wait for him to shoot, he did roll some "monsters."

As far as casino rules go, this particular dice pit was an abberation, they let a lot of stuff slide in order to cater to the Hawaiins. (This was the only casino in town where the public could take pictures on the casino floor).  Almost every Hawaiin that plays craps carries a "Kagul", that is, a lucky frog. Well, they would put these frogs on their pass line and odds bets, and they'd have larger frogs sitting in the rail around the game.

We had one boss that was a real "bleeder" (he not only sweat the money like it was coming out of his pocket, he "bled"). After one long role by the school principal he was shouting for the dealers to "pick up the line boys, and the frogs, too!"

Some of the Hawaiin ladies even set big frogs in the rail that were, well, guy frogs. AHEM! They were thought to be even luckier.

Nice anecdote.

Was all this on the big island?

Finding an actual drop of Hawaiian blood on Oahu was becoming a rarity by late 1964's the reason I ask.

I was working as a busboy in the Hilton Hawaiian Village ..... surrounded by Filipinos.... me the only Haole among them and not a single Hawaiian.

But on the big island there was a pretty good mix of Japa Haole, Hawaiian, and all the other usual combinations.  Even found a sure-nuff Portuguese man I came to like a lot up at Kukuihaele (above Waipio Valley).

No casinos anywhere out there in those days.

This all happened at a casino in Vegas that catered to the Hawaiin trade.

Ahh.  Sorry.  I misread your post.

I had no idea there was any such animal as 'the Hawaiian trade'.

World's changing underneath me too fast to keep track of.

      Gracias,

My mantra is "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo".  Rick G.

I'm still on page 5 of this thread, but I had to copy this comment. Boy, this takes me back to a different time in my life. Nichiren Buddhism.  About 30 years ago on a very cold and snowy evening, I got lost while driving somewhere in the White Mountains of NH in my VW Beetle. My gas gauge was pointing at the "E" and my sister, who had gone skiing with me, began to chant over and over "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" and suddenly 2 men were standing in front of the car.  I don't even remember seeing a town,  but one of them asked me to follow him down the road. There was a small gas station tucked away off the road. He either owned or worked at the station and used a key to turn on one of the pumps, since it was closed. I don't remember all the details, but I definitely remember being cold and running low on fuel and 2 men appearing out of nowhere in the dark.

          Justxploring,

Thanks for the story. That is a great example of that mantra in action. I've had some unusual experiences with it also but none quite so interesting.

Justxploring ...... Awesome, simply awesome!!!  Amazing!!  Hey, use that mantra with the same degree of intent on the lottery and see what happens!!  Big Grin Angel

From all I've read the raw energy of the universe which creates events and forms is completely neutral.

On earth it is our INTENT which forms that energy into positive, upfliting, soul enriching, etc.,  forms and events ............ or the diametric opposite of those.

Just depends on the mindset of the individual and as always through the principle of resonance like attracts like.

            Good luck to everyone!

              Justx and RickG:

              Cool anecdotes, both.

Sometimes the successes of affirmations and mantras seem to become so commonplace we take them for granted.  I suspect both of you see enough of this sort of thing so's it needs something spectacular to seem worth noticing.

The amazing thing to me about both is that a person has to be of a particular listening mindset to hear the kinds of things you guys are saying, and has been said elsewhere on this thread.

We can hear it a thousand times and give it a ho hum, even though there's no cost in trying it out.  Then, just at some right moment, we hear or read it again and something clicks.

We try it, and our lives change.

And we find ourselves wondering afterward, just what the hell was wrong with us.  Why didn't we open our ears, our minds, our spirits to it years earlier.

But the gratitude, the miracle is that we finally did do it.

It was so long ago that I really haven't thought about it very much. Yes, Coin Toss, if you believe in Angels, then a good explanation is that either these men were sent to help or they were Angels appearing to us as ordinary people. I am very careful about the stories I share. I wouldn't want someone to joke about something that was such an important event in my life. On the one hand, I'm not religious at all and often question the existence of a Higher Power. On the other, I've had some miraculous experiences that can't be explained in logical, rational terms. There is one that I've never told anyone because I'm afraid people will laugh. I even question that it could have really happened.

Angels can appear in many forms and from many things I've read angels are not picky about who is and isn't rligious.

Sounds like you really did have an angel encounter or at least an answered prayer.

I understand your reticence about telling such stories justx.

But I honestly don't believe anyone's going to laugh at you if you decide to share it, or anything else on this thread.

Doubts about higher powers and their involvement in our lives are something probably all people of faith have gone through occasionally.  Some were canonized as saints.  Some were the most profound Christian theologions.

Crises of faith aside, people who experience such events as you've described all usually have a label to attach to the beings involved.

I tend to just think of them as the work of the Coincidence Coordinators grueling away out somewhere in the ether.

I'm not going to ask you to share your experience, but if you wish to do so I'd be tickled pea green to read it.  I'd also be prepared to provide some discomfort for anyone who made light of it.

Thanks again for sharing the one you chose to.

I don't mind, Jack. The time I was referring to was in 1987 or early 1988.  I'll edit and skip the reason, but I had an argument with a man I was dating. I'm always a very careful driver (I sound like Raymond Babbitt.."I'm an excellent driver") but somehow in my rage I made a wrong left turn. I started to see bright lights coming directly at me and realized I was just about to have a head-on collision. I know that near-accidents have happened to many of us, so that's why I always hesitate calling this an extraordinary event. However, when I tried to get out of the way, I suddenly realized I was traveling on the wrong side of the concrete median barrier. This all happened in a matter of seconds. The headlights got closer and they were so bright I had to squint, and suddenly the music on my radio faded out. Then for a second I felt as if the car was floating. My clearest remembrance is a moment of absolute silence. Suddenly everything seemed normal. The music came back on the radio and I was driving on the correct side of the concrete barrier. To this day I'm not sure if I just reacted quickly and drove over it, or if my car was lifted to safety.  The reason it's difficult for me to write about this is that I honestly can't say what happened. I once told a friend whose response was that it probably didn't happen at all, that there must have been an opening in the median, but I went back during the day and looked. It was a solid concrete barrier.

Read a few years back that during the Chinese invasion into Tibet some Buddhist monks were imprisoned, guarded carefully 24/7.  At least one of them simply simply vanished as if they never existed in the first place while still imprisoned in their well guarded very secure cell.

Unexplainable things happen and under circumstances of duress you described above, I personally have no doubt you made it happen through sheer intent.  Very inspiring story, thank you for sharing it with us!!  Blue Angel
