2 possible outcomes

A. The ticket was lost.

B. The winner is already a millionaire and is in no hurry to claim.

C.  The person saw they won and kicked the bucket.

I checked out CA lottery's website.

For PB, a person winning the jackpot has 1 year from the date of the draw to claim their money. All the smaller prizes must be claimed within 180 days.

Rather strange to have it set up that way.

        C.  The person saw they won and kicked the bucket.

        D. They've been murdered and the murderer thinks if s/he waits, it'll be easy street.

          rcbuckeye,

Maybe the CA lottery powers that be figure a jackpot winner needs a wee bit more time to get things in order.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

He is obviously getting his ducks in a row....I think.

Nobody has that many ducks to get in a row.

My thoughts on the unclaimed ticket is...

              1. the holder of the winning ticket doesn't know they have it (stuck somewhere they forgot about putting it)
              2. the ticket was lost or destroyed
              3. the person died and the family that cleaned out his stuff threw it away with all their other belongings.

There was also one winner of a $165,000,000 Mega Millions prize on Jan 8 that has been unclaimed as well.

There's a lot of money in unclaimed tickets!

About $2 Billion per year (according to CNN Money)

It sucks that people who are irresponsible with their tickets win a lot!

I'm very responsible with my tickets and check them diligently, but yet I still can't win.

                  I Agree!

It's drawing time. Do you know where your tickets are?

                    No.

Very few jackpot prizes go unclaimed and the winner has a year to collect. We can start wondering if they still don't claim it by Thanksgiving. If i was the winner, I'd wait for the holiday season to claim it.

I am wondering how the California Lottery Commission is handling this matter.

I agree with the Thanksgiving time period. The Commission may be waiting until those Holidays also.Unhappy

I watched that movie several yrs. ago and had to turn on the captions.

I just did some quick calculations and if the winner had waited only a month and then claimed (cash option), they could have spent nearly ten million right off the bat, invested the rest fairly conservatively and still earned nearly half a million in the three months since then to now.

Instead of buying a ticket, I need to pay a visit to the Chino Hills landfill and start searching for this ticket with an X-ray MachineIdea
