Obama Muslim Ties Debunked

The recent report by Dick Morris attempting to smear Barack Obama seems to have a lot more holes in it than just his Senate votes. This shows the danger of relying on the internet for truth. As I originally responded to this story in another member's blog, consider the source...looks like I was right.

Chicago Tribune, Jan. 21, 2007 by Eric Zorn -

"The credulous wing-nuts at Fox News began Friday morning spreading the Internet rumor that Sen Barack Obama 'spent the first decade of his life raised by his Muslim father---as a Muslim and was educated in a Madrassa,' to quote 'Fox and Friends' host Steve Doocy.

The source seems to be a viral e-mail that I've received at least a dozen times in the last few weeks. Without any attribution or supporting documentation, it spins a tale of Obama's being indoctrinated as radical muslim as a youth living in Indonesia and claims that he remains 'ideologically' Muslim.

The truth, according to Obama's books and extra information supplied by his political adviser David Axelrod, is that Obama lived in Jakarta from age 6 to age 10 with his mother and stepfather, neither of whom were particularly religious. For two years he attended a Catholic school and for two years he attended the Besuki School, 'where students were predominantly Muslim but where they had only one hour a week of comparative religious studies,' Axelrod said.

Obama then moved back to Hawaii. 'He never identified as a Muslim and never even set foot in a mosque' during those years, Axelrod said. 'Not that those things would have been necessarily bad things. It's just the truth.' "

CNN decided to investigate the story and here is what they found...

Think I'll take a pass on the Dick Morris "newsletter".

Chicago is Pumped!

Just got back from the liquor store to get the post-game champagne.  Stopped at the convenience store next to it to get my lottery ticket and more votive candles for the TV Altar.  The fans are pumped.  Everyone has their Bears gear on...everywhere you look there is a # 54 jersey and Bears caps are the attire for the day.  People helping each other, jumping car batteries for unknown fellow fans so all could be home in time for the 2pm kickoff.  It brought tears to my eyes when the convenience store lady asked if I was ready.

On a sad note, I've heard that threats have been made against the Soldier Field Head Grounds Keeper.  Apparently he placed a tarp over the field to keep the freshly fallen snow off of it.  Any neophyte football fan knows that when you're facing one of the best running offenses in the league, you do not protect the field from moisture.  You ADD to it...as Tom Waddle suggested last week, we should have had the sprinkler system running day and night all week long.

So for his sake and the ugly thought of a public lynching, the Bears must win.

Coin Toss has provided the proper pre-game prayer in the Gaming Forum.   If all fans could take a solemn moment and refer to his post to memorize the prayer before kick-off.....

Go Bears!

Numerology Site and System

This is for anyone interested in Numerology.  I found a free site, formalogy.com, which uses numerology to give you the day's lottery numbers..  Asks your first name, date of birth and date of drawing....uses this info and translates it into single picks for all lottery game parameters.

Here's a way to use it for midday pick 3 games:

Go to site and get your 3 digits.  (For example 358)

Subtract one and add one giving you a nine digit matrix.

In this case,

247

358

469

Ideal is to play all possible combinations from each column.  (3 X 3 X 3 = 27 combos)

Filtering:  As you are making up your combos, skip combos that are all hi/lo, od/ev, doubles, triples, or repeat combos from the same matrix.

[ Notes:  Try using the first name you have gone by most your life as opposed to your birth name.  Compare the results...e.g., Marybeth could also be Mary or Beth.

Play straight/box. Doesn't seem to work as well in evening draws or pick 4's. ]

Let me know if it works for you!

Predicting Weather by the Geese

Most hunter/gatherers (i.e., guys) have an innate interest in the weather.  I read somewhere that the Weather Channel is one of the most popular TV channels among men.  Observing animal behavior is a great way to forecast pending weather without a TV.  I'm a big fan of Tom Skilling (WGN-TV Meteorologist) because he doesn't just tell you the weather, he teaches it.

In the Chicago area the geese are the best forecaster of cold weather to come.  During this past week Tom has been pointing out this expanding dome of cold air emanating from the arctic and working its way southward.  We've had a very mild winter so far and bird migration has not been very obvious.  But this week I've seen multiple flocks of geese on a daily basis flying south out of Canada.

The Northeastern US will experience its first true cold snap of the winter this upcoming week.

Thank you, geese.

Yet Another "signing statement"

President Bush continues to show flagrant disregard for our constitution and the separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches of our government.  He is circumventing the veto process with his signing statements.  Thus he is saying, "OK, this is the law but I can interpret this law as I see fit."

There should be no signing statements on legislative bills presented to the president.  It should either be signed or vetoed.  With his 700+ signing statements he has surpassed all other presidents combined in using this tactic while having the honor of using the least vetos.  Why bother with a veto when a signing statement gives you authority to ignore the legislation in the name of "national security"?

The latest signing statement regards the right of the government to open our mail.  Note the use of the phrase "exigent circumstances".  This is purposely vague to justify opening our mail under any circumstances that they deem "exigent".  If Aunt Martha is dying and you're notifying a family member, that is "exigent".

You've heard it before in my blog and some of you will disagree, but Big Brother is here to stay until all of these signing statements are voided.  Our freedoms are being eroded daily by this administration.

What Does the Winter Solstice Mean to Us?

For some reason this time of year is very important to civilization.  Pagans used to celebrate this time of year with drunkenness and debauchery.  Christians celebrate Christ's birth.  The Mayan calendar ends on that date in 2012.  The Fatima prophesies predict the "end of the world" on a winter solstice.  Ancient civilizations spent much time pre-occupied with the eqinoxes and solstices and astronomy in general.

This time of year is heralded as a joyous time of the year and yet many, if not most of us, find ourselves depressed, emotional, yearning to reach out to our loved ones or those in need or anyone else for that matter.  Tears and emotion flow more freely now than at any other time of the year.  Camaraderie is at its strongest point of the year (notice it on LP).  Preparation is also a key element in our lives at this time.  It is also statistically the time period when more alcohol is consumed than at any other time of the year.

Note that we celebrate New Year's Eve with drunkenness and debauchery but our focus is mostly on toasting the past, not celebrating the future.  The very words of Auld Lang Syne, the kissing of our loved ones and the intense emotions accompanying the moment are signifying more of a "goodbye" than a "hello".

Do humans have an innate knowledge of when something will happen to them as a race?  Or has Rick G. had too many eggnogs?

Meanwhile as we ponder this conundrum, Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays to all of my LP friends!

New Orleans Saints - The Real Deal ?

These guys are the real deal this year.  I was very impressed by them in their victory over Dallas last night.  The Chicago Bears will most likely have to face them in the playoffs.  The Bears will have to step their game up a few notches if they want to win the NFC Championship.  I'm not looking forward to that game right now.

The Bears play the Rams tonight with a struggling Rex Grossman and Brian Urlacher (> We will still be wearing his jersey and the rally caps, of course).  It's a Monday night road game which historically they have not done well at.  There will be an altar set up in front of the TV and candles lit for the faithful.

The tailgate party is subdued.  No hard liquor will be served.  Rowdies will be ejected.  There will be no roasting of falcons on the George Foreman Grill...hot dogs will be the fare.  There will be no appetizers with toothpicks protruding.  There will be much nail-biting to satisfy the appetites.

If the Bears don't make it to the Super Bowl, I'm hoping the Saints will.  Their camaraderie and team-play as the season winds down is commendable.

With that being said, Go Bears!  We're not giving up on the boys till the overweight woman sings an aria.

The De-Stabilization of the Middle East

[These are my words and opinions. I am solely responsible for the content. There are no footnotes or references.]

Iran's goal is to step into the vacuum of Iraq right now and become the super power of the Middle East with Syria as their lackey. We can bad-mouth Saddam until we are blue in the face, but there was a couple of functions he served. One, to keep his ethnically divided country under countrol and two, to balance the power between Iraq and Iran. Saddam is out of the picture, Iraq is in civil war/anarchy and Iran is stronger and more of a threat than ever.

With the factional religious support Iran has in Iraq, it would not be out of the question for Iran to overtake Iraq (similar to the Syria-Lebanon relationship) and, with its enhanced and unchecked nuclear ambitions, become the sole super power of the region to dictate policy to the OPEC nations (oil) and ultimately to accomplish their self-proclaimed goal of wiping Israel off the map. Iran's president does not think the Holocaust ever happened. What does that say about this man? It says that he wants to do what Hitler failed to accomplish. The only difference between the two men's ambitions is an Aryan world or an Islamic world.

In the West we are being driven by a similarly small faction of radicals, the Neo-Cons, who are equally as aggressive in forcing their ethnic/religious/political beliefs upon the rest of the world.

The result of this conflict for domination will be a devastating world war because in the end they won't be using guns and tanks...they will be using nuclear weapons. Allies will take sides and become targets of this threat as well. Russia and China are refusing to reign in the rogue Iranians or North Koreans. Whose side will they be on? This is a recipe for disaster. The accusation of "Axis of Evil" is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy and it shouldn't have been said in the first place because it did nothing but catalyze and exacerbate the situation.

We made a big mistake taking Saddam out. It looked good in the short term because he was a ruthless dictator. Obviously he is what that country needed to co-exist amongst themselves. In the long term we have de-stabilized the whole region and possibly the whole world as a result of it.

It is amazing to see the effect that small groups of radicals have on the rest of the world. We're letting a miniscule amount of the world population dictate our daily life and ultimately, our survival.

Tailgate Party - 11/26

The altar has been set up on the TV. Candles have been lit and prayers made to Saints Urlacher and Grossman. Jersey's, striped Bears pants and rally caps are donned.

Cornish Hens have been stuffed with bread crumbs, cherries, mandarin oranges, egg and Strohs.

Charcoal grill has been lit and hens will be cooked to perfection.

The usual misfits are at Rick G's house throwing the football around in anticipation of the Rapture.

Chicago Bears are visiting the New England Patriots. Can the Bears sweep the three-game road trip?

Tailgaters are hoping to continue the party into the night without great wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Papers, please! NOW!!!

Papers, please!  Remember Germany in 1939?  Failure to show proper identification is now cause for our law enforcement agencies to taser you repeatedly for non-compliance.  Another violation of the Fourth Amendment..."The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the person or things to be seized."  (We won't even get into the warrantless monitoring of our personal communications).

But it's "all for our own good", the systematical destruction of the Bill of Rights.

The wake-up call will be when YOU are being interrogated.  By then it will be too late to change this.  Wake up and smell the coffee.

Americans To Be Tortured For Refusing To Show ID?
Student shocked, tortured for defending constitutional rights

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
Thursday, November 16, 2006

A horror video that wouldn't look out of place in Maoist China or Nazi Germany shows a student being repeatedly shot with a stun gun by UCLA police for the crime of not showing his ID. As similar cases begin to pile up how long will it be before Americans are routinely tortured for noncompliance and refusing to have their 4th amendment violated?

"A cell phone captured video of a 23-year-old student being administered multiple Taser shocks by UCLA police on Tuesday. The UCLA student was hit with the Taser shocks multiple times while he was in the Powell Library Computer Lab. According to the paper, (Mostafa) Tabatabainejad did not show ID to community service officers who were conducting a random check," reports NBC.

Watch the video above and witness as the cops bark at Tabatabainejad to get to his feet as simultaneously shock him over and over until he begins crying and screaming for them to stop.

Police are given extensive training on the use of stun guns and in most cases that training involves taking a taser shot and feeling the effects. Depending on each individual's physiology, it takes at least a minute to be able to even stand after a single Taser shot. Over a hundred deaths have occurred in America as a result of taser shocks and Taser's own manual discourages repeated shocks, yet the history of their use tells us that police simply administer repeated shocks until "compliance is gained." This is a euphemism for torture.

The video and the eyewitness reports describe multiple taser shots as Tabatabainejad begs and pleads while at one point screaming, "Here's your Patriot Act, here's your f---ing abuse of power."

The officers repeatedly order Tabatabainejad to stand even as they administer further shocks - sending 50,000 volts of current that override the nervous system and temporarily paralyze muscles shooting through his system again and again. He can't stand and the cops know it, they just get off on the maniacal ego power trip of torture and this is why Tabatabainejad is hit again and again despite his screaming and the protests of the onlookers.

Similar cases abound in the so-called land of the free, including the video above in which a housewife, Abbey Newman, is assaulted and arrested for simply refusing to tell the gestapo her name at an unconstitutional checkpoint. Another case in which an Alex Jones listener, Ferrell Montgomery, was tasered and had a dog set on him again underscores the brutal and sadistic nature of the police. Like Tabatabainejad, Montgomery was repeatedly told to put his hands behind his head and stand up while he was electric shocked and a dog savaged him for not complying.

In November 2005, Deborah Davis was reading a book on a Denver bus when a guard of a nearby federal building got on board and demanded everyone show their ID. Davis refused, leading the guard to "call on federal cops, who then dragged Davis off a public bus, handcuffed her, shoved her into the back seat of a police car and drove off to a police station within the Federal Center."

How long before Americans are tortured with taser weapons on the streets for refusing to show identification on a routine basis?

How long before we are forced to wear shock collars like some bizarre science fiction movie, where our masters can discipline us on a whim for not obeying orders?

It may be a lot sooner than we think.

Every indication suggests that there are moves afoot to implement these measures on every major street corner and transport system. A year ago we were told that Federal air marshals were to expand their work beyond airplanes, launching counter-terror surveillance at train stations and other mass transit facilities. So called "Visible Intermodal Protection and Response" teams — or VIPER teams, may soon be permanently deployed to check ID's under the banner of counter-terrorism.

We need to set a precedent now whereby police who use taser stun guns and any other kind of unreasonable force as implements of torture, simply if an individual refuses to have their 4th amendment right illegally violated, are instantly fired, sued and can never work in any sector of government, policing or security again.

Nuclear Winter, not Global Warming

I will be voting anti-republican again in 2008 and every election after that until they switch the party back to its original values.  I will be voting for the strongest opponent against this neocon, religious invasion of our political ideology and personal rights, whether it be Hillary, Nancy, Barak or ET.

Democracy (aka, Mob rule) and the voting booth will dictate our country's future, not Push "Pill" Limbaugh, Neil Boor-us or any other of the neocon factions out there.  Mainstream Media is a good description.  It indicates lack of radicalism.  There is far-right and far-left and if the MSM are center of the road that is appealing to a majority of Americans.  It is time regular Americans took back our country from these cowboys with hidden agendas.

Thanks to the common man and woman, for their voting and their common sense, we have taken one step forward.

The "nuclear winter" will be blamed on the Democrats but who started this whole global cooling in the first place?  Republicans took control of the Congress in 1994, Bush took control in 2001 and nine months later the country took its worst hit in its history.  Two years after that we invaded and occupied another nation which was proven to have nothing to do with the 9/11 attack.  We invited the bad boys, the "axis of evil" and said "bring it on".  Now they are bringing it on.

The republicans have been in power the whole time during this OK corrall standoff.  They will be leaving with their chaps between their tails and leaving this nightmare for the rest of the world to clean up.

Sounds like the "pubs" are looking for a scapegoat for their major errors in judgement.  Democrats seem like an easy target.  Take a crap and expect someone else to clean it up....when the flies come, it's the cleaner's fault, right?

The "nuclear winter" will not be the Democrats fault.  They were not in power when the stones were cast.  The blame lies squarely on G.W. Bush.  The buck stops there.  He threw the stones.

Our Taxes Paying for Their "Morality"

I predicted it here first. They have finally made the flying leap into our bedrooms. It is no damned business of our government if two unmarried twenty-five year olds want to have sex. This is gross intrusion into our personal lives and has no business in our government policy-making. For the taxpayer to have to pay for their moral agenda is even more insulting.

Abstinence message goes beyond teens
Millions in federal money targeting adults up to 29

By Sharon Jayson
USA TODAY
10/31/06

The federal government's “no sex without marriage” message isn't just for kids anymore.
Now the government is targeting unmarried adults up to age 29 as part of its abstinence-only programs, which include millions of dollars in federal money that will be available to the states under revised federal grant guidelines for 2007.

The government says the change is a clarification. But critics say it's a clear signal of a more directed policy targeting the sexual behavior of adults.

“They've stepped over the line of common sense,” said James Wagoner, president of Advocates for Youth, a Washington, D.C.-based group that supports sex education. “To be preaching abstinence when 90% of people are having sex is in essence to lose touch with reality. It's an ideological campaign. It has nothing to do with public health.”

Abstinence education programs, which have focused on preteens and teens, teach that abstaining from sex is the only effective or acceptable method to prevent pregnancy or disease. They give no instruction on birth control or safe sex.

The National Center for Health Statistics says well over 90% of adults ages 20-29 have had sexual intercourse.

But Wade Horn, assistant secretary for children and families at the Department of Health and Human Services, said the revision is aimed at 19- to 29-year-olds because more unmarried women in that age group are having children.

Government data released last month show that 998,262 births in 2004 were to unmarried women 19-29, the ages with the most births to unmarried women.

“The message is ‘It's better to wait until you're married to bear or father children,' ” Horn said. “The only 100% effective way of getting there is abstinence.”

The revised guidelines specify that states seeking grants are “to identify groups … most likely to bear children out-of-wedlock, targeting adolescents and/or adults within the 12- through 29-year-old age range.”

Previous guidelines didn't mention targeting of an age group.
“We wanted to remind states they could use these funds not only to target adolescents,” Horn said. “It's a reminder.”

Last year, 46 states applied for the federal abstinence education money, to fund programs in schools, neighborhood clubs and faith-based organizations.

Sarah Brown, director of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, says abstinence programs are among many messages that have helped reduce teen pregnancy rates. But “the notion that the federal government is supporting millions of dollars worth of messages to people who are grown adults about how to conduct their sex life is a very divisive policy,” she says.

“We would oppose any program that stigmatizes unmarried people,” adds Nicky Grist, executive director of the Alternatives to Marriage Project, an organization based in Brooklyn, N.Y., that advocates for the rights of unmarried people.

For last year's state grants, Congress appropriated $50 million. A similar amount is expected for 2007, but the money has not yet been allocated, according to the Administration for Children and Families.
“I think the program should talk about the problem with out-of-wedlock childbearing — not about your sex life,” Brown says. “If you use contraception effectively and consistently, you will not be in the pool of out-of-wedlock births.”
