Wyoming Lottery history was made during Monday's drawing as one lucky ticket laid claim to Cowboy Draw's first million dollar jackpot.
A customer at an east Casper grocery store purchased WyoLotto's first $1 million Cowboy Draw ticket on Sunday, the Wyoming Lottery Corporation announced.
The winning ticket was bought at Ridley's grocery store at 300 East Wyoming Boulevard in Casper. The winning numbers for Monday's drawing were 5, 10, 16, 23, and 31.
Monday's advertised jackpot estimate was $975,000, but by draw time after all the proceeds were calculated, the official jackpot tally totalled $1,000,022 and shattered the previous record jackpot amount of $628,630 announced on April 16, 2015.
This was the fifth jackpot-winning ticket sold for Wyoming's own lotto game. The last Cowboy Draw jackpot winner was announced on June 4, 2015.
Cowboy Draw, which launched on March 15, is a draw game similar to Powerball and Mega Millions. Players choose two sets of five numbers ranging from 1 to 45. A player who correctly matches all five numbers is the jackpot winner.
Each $5 ticket provides two chances to win. The weekly drawings for Cowboy Draw will be held every Monday and Thursday at 2 p.m. MST. The jackpot starts at $250,000 and keeps growing until someone wins. Tickets for Cowboy Draw are sold only in Wyoming.
Congratulations. I remember when Wyoming had issues with bringing a lottery there. Now look @ Alabama, not giving the folks to vote on this very issue. How sad and un-American!
Congratulations to the winner!
The good news is, in Wyoming, lottery winners have the right to remain anonymous. I hope the winner takes advantage of the opportunity to protect their privacy. Winners who have their identity published are inundated with requests for assistance, plus there are some crazies out there.
If I win a lottery, can I remain anonymous?
We will honor requests for anonymity from winners. However, we certainly hope winners will allow us to share their names and good news with other players.

Excellent job to the lucky winner !!!! Enjoy your newly acquired wealth for years to come.

And no state tax, sounds like a winning combo to me.
Todd, no apostrophe is needed in the headline. The title should read, "Wyoming Lottery Has Its First Winner." No apostrophe in its.
Right you are -- and that's even a pet peeve of mine!
Some times one can avoid using "it" by making small wording changes:
"The Wyoming Lottery has their first $1 Million Winner!"
Not to go too far off topic, but "its" is grammatically correct, since "their" typically refers to a person or persons.
Ha! It happens. It is a pet peeve of mine also. I didn't have much choice, my mom is an English teacher!
Congrats to the lucky winner.
