Are you playing online? I read somewhere on the NC lottery website something about all winnings are subject to taxes. If they are reporting every little 40 dollarhit on pick 3 on line play may not be worth while. What has been your experience? If you are playing online??

Hi, I have a question about the new cash 3 on the app. If someone plays and wins cash 3 straight 40 times therefore winning $20,000, would that amount be automatically taxed? Or no because technically that s 40 separate prizes under the auto-taxes threshold?

Don't play online, omg I got 400 2 times for 490 played it online, and I don't know who I owed in the state, but they took it all and it was not Child support (no kids) or Dept of taxation (no state taxes owed) I thought the over 600$ rule applied online but it's anything over 100.01 they will take, they say I will get a letter in about a week...talk about sadistic...this is an insidious slow burn I will never forget....so there you have it, play online at your own risk!

That a good point but you would think that if they are going to make you pay taxes then they would track your losses as well. If someone is having a bad year then they could conceivably write off their losses.

I've asked the lottery for a clarification on this, especially the Fireball on trips. If it's true, you're absolutely correct that you will have to collect via the lottery office where they will collect Federal tax of 25% plus Virginia State tax of 4% leaving you with .71*1100 = $781. If, instead of one $2 Fireball play, you played two $1 non-Fireball plays on that same trip, you would win $500 on each and you could cash them separately without paying taxes and have $1000 instead.

You do not have to claim any money earned or won less then 5000 dollars...if you work for yourself if you don't make more then 5000 for the year you don't have to file that on your taxes...if you win 10.000 on cash 3 you don't have to claim it..it taxed based on a single prize win of 5000 or more

I understand what you are saying but if I hit 5000.00 on cash 3 there is no way I am claiming it nor can the IRS locate me since each ticket is a separate wager and I am not required to fill out a form at Publix. Example is if 828 comes out today, I have 10 grand in winnings, I would not cash every ticket at 1 store and would not claim it on my taxes. If you do, that is great but I am not reporting every 40.00 box hit or 2.00 winner on a scratch off

You have to pay taxes on 500 too, it's just that the IRS doesn't enforce it. If you baby sit for 30 bucks cash, you have to claim it, even though no one really does.

Too confusing, plus if you play 1.00 straight and win 500.00 and the fireball it now becomes 600.00 so you have to pay taxes. At least that is how I understand it.
