Buying more tickets = reduced odds
I've been following this thread with interest and my take on it is this:If a given draw comprises of 1,000 possible combinations and I buy one ticket, that means that I win if that combination comes up and lose if it doesn't. The term odds is made up of two things... Odds for and odds against and in this case, my odds for = 1 and my odds against = 999. The odds therefore are 1 in 1000 or 999 to 1 against. If I buy two tickets, that means that I win if either of those combinations come

Buying more tickets = reduced odds
What's fixed is the total number of lottery combinations. If there are 13.9 million combinations we like to say theodds are 1 in 13.9 million because one dollar buys onecombination giving the purchaser one chance to win.Fly to a state where you get two combinations for a dollarthe total number of combinations haven't changed, but theodds of 1 in 13.9 million are 1 in 6.9 million because nowyou have two combinations in hand for one/dollar.In the same sense, buying two tickets for two dollars alsoc

Someone explain...
I didn't miss your point, I said I think it was wrong. The only objective way to decide which game is better is to look at the overall odds of winning, and/or how much is paid out for each dollar wagered, but that's not how you judged the game. You also did'n't consider what prizes had already been claimed or which ones were still available. You say one of the two games is a sucker bet based on the odds of winning one particular prize, but you're actually about 5% more likely to win something in

State to display odds of winning
When Tennesseans start playing the lottery next year, they'll know something dreamers in many other states don't: the odds of winning.State law doesn't require the odds to be advertised, but Tennessee lottery chief Rebecca Paul believes it's good business to do so. Every place I've ever been has prominently displayed it in brochures, at point of sale, where people get their play slips, where they fill them out, Paul said. It's important to have it there and ready and available for anybody who

Craps Pass Line With Odds Bet - Casino Advantage
Yes, the odds bet, sometimes called free odds , is universally paid according to the true probabilities, without house advantage. However, before making this bet, you must make the Pass Line bet first, and that has a 1.414% house advantage. The casinos vary in how much you can bet on the odds as a multiplier of the original Pass Line bet. For example, a casino that offers 10x Odds on a $10 Pass Line bet will let you bet up to $100 on the odds bet. As an example of how odds or free odds func

Odds of winning.
This is a pretty good explanation of odds and probabilities, from Wikipedia: The odds in favor of an event or a proposition is the ratio of the probability that the event will happen to the probability that the event will not happen. For example, the odds that a randomly chosen day of the week is a Sunday are one to six, which is sometimes written 1 : 6. 'Odds' are an expression of relative probabilities. Often 'odds' are quoted as odds against, rather than as odds in favor. For example, t

JTP Odds
Greetings! I suggest you edit the odds information on Florida Lottery's Jackpot Triple Play game in the lottery results section. Florida Lottery apparently does not understand the difference between odds and probabilities. Since every JTP ticket has three lines, they have decided that the odds per ticket of hitting the jackpot is one-third of the actual odds. Lower tier prizes for this game are similarly calculated.

Odds are a numerical expression, usually expressed as a pair of numbers, used in both gambling and statistics. In statistics, the odds for or odds of some event reflect the likelihood that the event will take place, while odds against reflect the likelihood that it will not. In gambling, the odds are the ratio of payoff to stake, and do not necessarily reflect exactly the probabilities. Odds are expressed in several ways (see below), and sometimes the term is used incorrectly to mean simply the
