Retailers don't have to pay you for a winning scratch off
If a retailer didn't honor the tickets he sold I would gently remind him , that I wouldn't be back and that I would alert everyone I know to shop elsewhere.

If this ticket is for example Ind. plus 2 other states powerball or mega game if you really want to find out faster what it worth they have scanner boxes on the counter in Ind. you scan your own. Scan the bar code if the scanner confirm you,re a winner it will give a dollar amount sign ticket give to retailer but if the ticket say it is a winner take to the nearest regional lottery office . Ask the retailer for winning lottery forms to full out. Go home fill out the forms before going to office

It's true that the retailer gets a bonus for selling a big winner, but unless the retailer is really generous the clerks get dreck.

When To Play The Lottery
There was a show on cable tv on Sunday about winning lotteries, and the show stated that quick picks win more often than picking your own numbers. I never buy multiple sets of quick pick numbers on one ticket, the numbers seem to repeat on each line too often, I always ask for single tickets. Last year I brought all 375 losing tickets back to the retailer for a refund. He wouldn't go for it.
