I didn't do so good last night. I guess I'll just have to wait for another drawings where all 5 numbers hit only once in the previous drawings before any hit twice.

"GREAT LUCK".........RJOH........in........"2006"!!!!!!!!!!

There are many good ideas/filters here, but I would caution that they should not all be crammed into one monolith system. Pick and choose. You can have a store that sells ice cream. You can have a store that sells fried catfish. But you will not sell much catfish-flavored ice cream. (cat lovers not withstanding)

Now that MegaMillion is at $265M, it's the right time to test those prediction formulas to their max.

The above shows how I've been analyzing lottery drawings with numbers from previous drawings.  Shown are the five numbers in last night's MegaMillion drawing which were in the last 33 drawings and drawn a total of ten times.  50% of the time all five numbers are in the previous 15 drawings and drawn no more than ten times.  90% of the time winning combination will have one of two numbers from the previous six drawings.  Such information will be helpful in developing parameters to make better picks for future drawings.

I'm going to look at the last 90 drawings and try to come up with 20 lines that fit the most common profile for tomorrow drawing.

Some years ago, I wrote a program that looked at this method for the local p5. It does (did) show a 5/5 match often enough to be interesting. The catch is(was) that when you run(ran) it "forwards" (find 5-number combinations in this contiguous string of 10 (or 15, or whatever, I'd made it scalable Wink ) groups of 5, you got too many numbers to practically play. I have spent much more effort working on decent filters, than on methods to get a winning combo. I wound up putting this method aside as one of those parts that didn't play well with the other stuff I had.

            time*treat,

How many lines/numbers did you have to cover to win when it hit?

I also play Ohio Rolling Cash5 which pays $l for a match2 which might make the effort more practical when ever the the jackpot rolls to $200K of better.

When I use a RNG to pick numbers/lines within observed parameters, certain combinations are avoided without the use of filters, so it's just a matter of the number of lines one is willing to play.

              RJOh,

The quantity of numbers varied inversely with the length of the string, (8 day-strings produced more combos than 10 day-strings) and was still all over the map. One thing I did was to try a string of x days in a group of y days (say 10 days in a string of 99 and other variations) I wound up with one of those systems that produce 1000's of combinations and would show a 5/5 match (on average) about once every 2/3 weeks, depending on x & y. Profitable but (of course) impractical.

Now that RC5 has rolled to $443,000 I'm adjusting my strategy for a more affordable coverage.  Instead of going for a 5 of 5, I'm going for a 3 of 5 hoping to get lucky and do better.  this way, my program is self limiting and stays within an affordable range.  Yesterday it picked 20 lines and I match3 once and match2 twice for $12, so my venture only cost $8.  RC5 is a 5/39 game, so the odds are attractive for a jackpot that size.  It's not MegaMillions but then there are only 575,757 possible combinations instead of 175,711,536

We have 5/36, here. Sadly, it doesn't "roll" anywhere. 50 cents to win 50 Grand. On the other hand, there can be multiple winners, so one could play a buck or two. Like you, I have gone the way of self-limiting code. For me, at least, the hurdle in a winning formula has been more about the elimination of losing combos.
