It will have to wait a while, with the local RC5 at $416K and MM at $53M, I can't get excited about 2hr drive to play. Confused

I've convinced my mom to switch from PowerBall to Hoosier Lotto until someone wins it given the cash option is about $31.8M and the jackpot is 12 times easier to win than PowerBall. I hope I win it tommorrow night. I need it bad.

I was thinking the same thing. It's a little tricky, though ...

even without the power ball number (or the power play) ...

3 of 5 on PowerBall pays better than 3 of 6 on HoosierLottery $7 vs $3

4 of 5 on PB pays better than 4 of 6 on HL  $100 vs ~$40

5 of 5 on PB pays better than 5 of 6 on HL    $200,000 vs ~$1,000

You have to get that top-dog prize on HL to make the switch from PB to HL worthwhile on an odds-only basis.

In neo-conned Amerika, bank robs you.

If there's any time to play Hoosier Lotto, it's now, because after it's won, it could be a very long time before it comes even close to what it is now. I don't think the jackpot is the only prize to justify a switch from PowerBall though. It all depends on which scale you want to play and what odds you want. You got multi-state lotteries like PowerBall and Mega Millions that can reach supersized jackpots and the odds of winning top prize is huge. Then you got state jackpot lotteries that can reach decent sized jackpots, where the odds of winning top prize is still pretty big, but still much smaller than the multi-state games. Then you got mini-jackpot games like Pick 5, Mix&Match, 3 Line Lotto. Then you got Pick 3 and Pick 4. The one thing I like most about Hoosier Lotto is that you get a free QP for getting 2/6 and getting 2/6 is very easy. A lot of games don't offer a 2/6 prize.

              Odds
              Hoosier Lotto  3/6 = 1:53
              PowerBall 3/5+0 = 1:291

4 of 5 on PB pays better than 4 of 6 on HL  $100 vs ~$40

              Hoosier Lotto 4/6 = 1:950

5 of 5 on PB pays better than 5 of 6 on HL    $200,000 vs ~$1,000

              Hoosier Lotto 5/6 = 1:48,696
              PowerBall 5/5+0 = 1:3,563,609

You don't have to get that top-dog prize on HL to make the switch from PB to HL worthwhile on an odds-only basis  Odds are you will receive more prizes per dollar spent with the Hoosier Lotto

True. My experience has been that most of those "prizes" are free tickets. ROFL

"Worthwhile" is, of course, subjective. Cool

I was only comparing the odds of winning the money prizes.  While PB prizes may be twice the size the the HL prizes they are more than four times harder to win.

Ok, I decided to play all quick picks for last night's draw as well. From the previous draw I had won 4 free quick picks and $3 and I spent the $3 on 3 quick picks, so I had 7 free quick picks. I also spent $40 out of wallet, so for last night's drawing I had a total of 47 quick picks. Here's a break down of what I won:

                    5 2/6 = 5 free quick picks

                    1 3/6 = $3

                    1 4/6 = $40

So I won $43 and 5 free quick picks. I'm glad I won my money back. Now I have to make up my mind if I want to put all $43 on more tickets.

4/6! Eek My "best" on HL has been 3/6. I get enough 2/6s to paper my wall, or put on a cardboard roll and ... well, nevermind Roll Eyes. Congrats on the 4/6, Guru. Cool

The clerk where I got my tickets last night said a guy had bought 100 tickets earlier. The guy apparently had matched 5/6 in the prior drawing and was putting it all back into the lotto. He was going around town getting 100 tickets at 10 different places with his $1000 win.

And since there was no winner last night... funny stuff.

I would not be comfortable buying my tix from a place where the clerks are so yappy about what customers are doing.

Clerks see hundreds of lottery tickets sold and only a few dollars paid out in prizes every week so when they see anyone spending a thousand dollars on lottery tickets it's going to become part of the conversation with their customers who like to talk.

The sad part of the story is the guy didn't appreciate how lucky he was to have one of the less than 35 tickets that matched 5 of 6 out of over three millions tickets sold.

I could never figure how anyone knowing a town sells hundreds of randomly picked lottery tickets every week and never have a big winner could think they could do better doing the same thing.  I would think anyone buying that many tickets would have a strategy other than just going to ten different locations.
