does anyone know about cashing $1000 tickets at the district office in tampa as far as taxes go? can i start saving $1000 of losing tickets or is that a waste of time because i was not planning on itemizing my tax deduction this year? I also have $4000 in winning tickets that i have not cashed. better to cash these at publix or could i get cash if i take them to the district office, or will they try to tax me for this also even though they are all $500 winners and below?

From the Florida Lottery website:

"The Internal Revenue Service requires that the Florida Lottery withhold 25 percent federal withholding tax from prizes greater than $5,000 if the winner is a citizen or resident alien of the U.S. with a Social Security number. The Florida Lottery is not required to withhold federal withholding taxes from prizes for $5,000 or less. If the prizewinner is a U.S. citizen or resident alien who does not have a Social Security number, the Florida Lottery is required to withhold 28 percent backup federal withholding tax from any prize of more than $600. For nonresident aliens, the Florida Lottery is required to withhold 30 percent federal withholding tax from all prize amounts. The Internal Revenue Service requires the Florida Lottery to report all winnings for $600 and above for U.S. citizens and resident aliens."

district office will not pay in cash, id cash in 500 tickets at publix or somewhere.  yes you can save losing tickets, but you may also want to start getting receipts for your ticket purchases.  they can say u pick up the losing tickets out of the trash

I do not typically play $2 tickets. Earlier today at Sunoco, the store which I have purchased countless tickets from in the past and the very same store where I won my first 5k prize from $100mil lucky fortunes has yet again produced a 50k winner from a $2 ticket called 10x The Money today. I won the 5k prize last year early February. I'm happy at least they had a top tier prize there. Makes me feel hopeful in the grind to discovery the millionaire dollar winner. Lucky fellow wherever you are. I continue on the lottery grind.

Same feeling here..happy to win a top prize but am looking for the next level. I believe I'll find it, just not sure when.

I wouldn't mind by-passing the $50k, $100k or even $300k (although that one would be nice to find) and going

      straight to 1 Million.

      Good luck to everyone!

Skeptic, see they had a 100x million winner in your neck of the woods.  I guess you'all get all the good tickets down there

Saw that too, was hoping it was Ed. That game sure has been producing million dollar winners regularly, I'll give it that.

its the same way in florida, anothing over 600 you have to go the a district office and redeem, however they do not with hold any taxes at that point, they give you a form to use when filing income tax.  Anything above 5k, they take taxes out on the spot.  I hit 10k which seems like a lot, but when I redeemed it they with held 25 percent on the spot, so I walked out with 7500.

I seriously thing tickets hit an all time low in PA. I saw 2-$5 packs near the end, so I decided to play them and a few other tickets. Spent more than I wanted to. Earlier in the week I spent $50 to win $25 and then that money to win nothing. This time I ended up playing $120 and got back $45. Bank card is back out of the wallet. That was my 2 days of "fun"(sarcasm) and now back to not playing.

I did pretty badly today.  I started losing on the bigger dollar tickets then went crazy.  I'm going to start leaving my atm card at home to avoid that and I am going to try hard not to play for a while.  I don't want to give back all of my $500 win so soon.

Today I got a flat tire on my Mercedes. 3rd one in 6 months. Pain in the a$$ since no one ever carries the odd size tires so if it happens on a Friday Im screwed till Monday...just after getting the flat I hit a HUN on Gold Rush, a HUN on $20 Monopoly with the car symbol 5X $20, and a 5X symbol on the $100X game. $230 total--the cost of the tire. "Ask and yee shall receive." Next time I should ask for the parts + labor LOL.

I know how you feel MD, I too tend to get caught up in the chase, hoping that the next ticket I buy will make  it all worth the spending. It's tempting when the atm is right there in the store. It sucks when you put so much money playing and get far less in return. I used to buy $20 and $10 books but lately I've been hesitant because I have had very little luck in winning nothing more than half or less than what I paid for which is $300 per roll. GA has the very first new $30 ticket coming out Jan 28 that has a top tier prize of $10mil. I'm definitely gonna try that one for sure. Think I should by a roll just to feel it out?

Bluesilver, I would definitely buy the first 5 or 6 tickets in a roll if you can. Might just be me but thats where my best winners have come from.
