"THE KEY TO WINNING A LOTTERY JACKPOT IS BUYING A LOTTERY TICKET WITH THE WINNING NUMBERS ON IT." Thank you RIDGE for letting me know the secret. You have saved me so much time.
I USE THE FOLLOWING STRATEGY
LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT=$60 ANNUALLY WITH THREE PLAYING METHODS
1) PLAYING MORE OFTEN FOR LESS LINES
2) PLAYING LESS OFTEN FOR MORE LINES
3) PLAYING LESS OFTEN FOR LESS LINES
"A stop loss limit is very important and I urge anyone that plays to have a stop loss limit to protect their large sum of ready gambling money. You should have a stop loss limit to avoid losing too much money on a bad day. While setting up a loss limit is a great idea in theory, there are plenty of gamblers who won't have the will power to stick with these limits. These are the same people who will never make any money or come close to breaking even in gambling. It's definitely hard to stick with loss limits because there is so much temptation to keep gambling no matter which way Lady Luck is sending the money. The better you are at sticking with your loss limits over the long run, the more successful and happy you will be at the end of game play."

If you think $60 is a "large sum of ready gambling money", you shouldn't be gambling.

Can't win if you don't buy a ticket. I prefer the play more often for less lines approach. I'll take the jackpot, whatever size, so I'd rather play all the draws and not only when the jackpot grows large. I expect I'll spend at least $624 next year for MM and PB. That's one picked line and one QP line for each drawing. I throw smaller wins back into more QP tickets, not always for the same game though, but I don't count that in the budget. I haven't decided what other games I might play regularly next year.

The wealthiest zip codes keep winning most lottery jackpots in new york state. The 206 millions mega millions jackpot was won in Suffolk County Long island (QUICK PICK). That is the reason why i do not spend too much on lotteries. Some geographic areas win more than others even though the playership is lower in those areas.
I feel that powerball is going to make a smart move by increasing the ticket cost to $2 with a higher starting jackpot in 2012.I am tired of seeing mega millions rolling like 20 times to reach $200 millions and having someone that rarely contribute to the jackpot pool winning the whole thing. There is no way that people in long island new york play more than other areas in new york state, and they win the most.
Powerball is going to change all that, everybody will have to pay big if they want a bigger jackpot, but we won't have to wait so long to have a shot at a life changing jackpot of $100 millions plus.
Mega millions will have to offer higher starting jackpots in order to compete with powerball next year.

since you're in NY, maybe you should go to Long Island and purchase your tickets if you're not already

I thought that we were playing against chance pure and simple. The lottery in new york state is not a random game of chance because the areas that buy the most tickets are not winning the big jackpots.Buying more tickets gets you more shots at the target, but that is not happening in areas that play the most in new york state.
No, i am not going to long island to play the lottery.I prefer to play less and voice my opinions in order to bring some integrity to lottery games in new york state.

I think it was in new jersey that lottery sales went way down because the areas that were playing the most were rarely winning any big jackpots.People will stop playing any game where they do not win at all, no matter how good the odds of winning are. We need more integrity in new York lottery games, let people win those big jackpots statewide new York lottery.

" To have a lottery ticket is to have a talisman of possible wealth that, when held and contemplated, brings immediately to mind the fantasy of wealth and makes it feel much more visceral. There is no equivalent talisman for the possibility of a wealthy aunt, and, hence, the fantasy is far weaker.
The "fantasy aid" argument for purchasing a lottery ticket works in light of this very real gain in utiles by comparison to the far more passive fantasizing about one's wealthy aunt. It isn't hard to think of other examples of this "talisman effect" in fantasy and memory: physical books are relatively more expensive than ebooks (modulo Amazon's future-oriented pricing); letters from lovers call to mind more poignant memories than do emails or remembrances; people save chips that are otherwise useless from casinos; etc.
It would seem to me that smart, rational people are no less susceptible to the very real utile-increasing effects of talismans. This is a reason to play the lottery: you hold the possibility of riches in your very hand. No hypothetical relatives offer the same pleasure."

No, if I have an extra $1 to play, I'd rather spend it on an extra ticket instead of the powerplay/megaplier. In the coming year, I'll still play 1 ticket picked, 1 ticket QP for each MM and PB draw. The extra $4 a week is within my budget.

Are you playing mega millions and powerball for 12/30/2011 and 12/31/2011? I know that having a shot at $12 millions and $25 millions do not motivate a lot of people to play, but it would be nice to hit small jackpots like these.
I am playing for those small jackpots, you never know. As for next year, i am going to wait until the new powerball changes go into effect to start playing again with my $60 budget.

I sure am playing - $12 mil or $212 mil - either would look nice deposited in an account with my name on it, even if it's only a "paltry" $4.5 mil after taxes. ;) Shoot, I'd have quite the grin from just hitting the first 5 numbers on either game. Anyway, I play several draws at once - usually buy tickets for a week or two.

Mega millions jackpot jumped from $12 millions to $15 millions on last night drawing. That's the problem with high odds and low starting jackpots games. It takes a long time to push those jackpots higher. Mega millions will have a hard time competing against powerball $40 millions starting jackpot next month unless they increase the starting jackpot to $40 millions too or merge with powerball to create a national lottery. Can you imagine a national lottery with a $100 millions starting jackpot and 1 in 175 millions odds to win the jackpot. Statewide lotteries sales will decline once the new powerball changes take effect. Most people love high jackpots games.
