Spending $5 on Mega Millions and $10 on Powerball for every drawing equals $30 a week or $1,560 for the year. You will be down $15,600 in 10 years, if you do not win any major prize.

Spending $2 on Coffee for morning equals $14 a week or $728 for the year. You will be down $7,280 in 10 years, if you do not stay up.  Now try telling us something we don't know.

We should not be playing the lottery, if we can't afford to spend $5 or $10 per drawing on any lottery game. The average lottery player spends $30 a week on the lottery.

You have a better chance of enjoying a cup of coffee than winning any major prize on Mega Millions or Powerball.

Which one is more addictive, spending $5 on Mega Millions and $10 on Powerball for every drawing or drinking that cup of coffee?

You don't know this for certain, believe me the people who wins the lottery never had a clue.  I just think that all your topics are the same and to create a topic about something anyone can do the math on is beyond me.  I still don't get the point.

I don't know I am not an economist but I highly doubt its because of the lottery.  The notion that the lottery is the cause is a GOP talking point.  Truth of the matter, wages for americans are extremely low, making it hard to save when you need everythng you make to live on.

Because most people live beyond their means and want everything now (not because of the lottery). When I bought my home, I had several people tell me how much bigger a place I could have bought (and allow my expected rising job income to cover it) but I bought a little smaller in a great neighborhood (at a young age) and never regretted it. And at an earlier than expected age, my home is paid off (of course the book deal helped). But I was not flying to Vegas to gamble, taking over the top vacations, etc.

I think that is a fair amount for entertainment.

You will never recover the OPPORTUNITY COST of spending $20 or $30 weekly playing the lottery, unless you win a second prize or the jackpot. Your average win has to be at least $50,000 dollars every 10 years on any lottery game to be a winner. Spending $10,400 or $15,600 in 10 years playing the lottery is insane.
