Judge orders new trial in Arkansas lottery ticket suit
An Arkansas judge on Thursday ordered a new trial to decide who can claim a $1 million scratch-off lottery ticket prize, a little more than three weeks after he ruled that a woman who said she bought the ticket but mistakenly discarded it was entitled to the money. White County Circuit Judge Thomas Hughes ruled May 1 that Sharon Duncan should get the prize money, not two other women involved in the case. Hughes ordered the new trial in a one-paragraph ruling that did not elaborate on his reas

Two workers in lottery pool sue over $118 million ticket
The $9 was used on behalf of the pool players that contributed money to purchase the tickets that won the prize of $9. The $118m Jackpot was won with shares of money that belonged to the two plaintiffs. There was an existing authorization by the two plaintiffs, that saw their share in the $9, share in the pool of a larger fund, that won the $118m Jackpot. I believe that the two plaintiffs should at least, get a proportion in the Jackpot, that equals their share of money contribution, as alrea

Workplace Lottery Pool Contract...
I would think a real contract would have to be notorized or made by a lawyer. Not sure. If you have a conversation and agree to do something it's a real contract, though you may have a hard time proving to the court what the terms of the contract are. Putting things in writing and having each signature witnessed helps prove what the agreement is and that everyone really signed it, and a notary is a better witness than another member of the pool. Proving who signed it and what it says may no

N.J. woman suing state over lottery tax
State retroactively slapped her with $1.58 million in taxes A Rockaway, New Jersey, woman who won a $14.9 million prize in the New Jersey Lottery's Pick 6 drawing in 2009 is suing the state to get a $1.58 million income tax refund she says she is owed. Kimberly Wearin's lawsuit, made public today in Superior Court in Morristown, says that when she won the prize on June 4, 2009 and took it as a lump sum, winnings from the state lottery were excluded from taxable income, under state law.

Should lottery winners share with colleagues?
^^^THIS^^^ As I am sure most of us are, I tend to be a very generous and trusting person, almost to a fault. However, like RJOH said, once you start the gravy train rolling, people will be at the station every day anxiously awaiting it's arrival. Win the lottery and everyone will have their hands out...friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbors, and people whom you never even heard of who have absolutely nothing to do with you. I also think many have contempt for rich people, and especia

Disputed $50M lottery jackpot partially paid out
I am going to first make a contract and make sure that it is legal for me to add a clause that says in the case of a dispute, the director (me), can determine if somebody is entitled to anything. I'll save you some trouble. No. It's not quite that black and white, but that's the assumption you should be working with. One thing I can promise is that a contract doesn't apply to somebody who didn't sign it, so if somebody outside of the group claims they're entitled to a share you need some

Colossal Fail: Cowboys lottery game winners not getting tickets after all
It's a great prize, especially if you're a die-hard Cowboys fan, which I understand Mr. Delamar is, said Bobby Heith, a spokesman for the Texas Lottery Commission. And it should be interesting, Delamar agreed. But to be honest, it was the tickets, getting to go all season, that's why I was so excited, he said Tuesday. And I talked with Kathy in Amarillo, and she feels the same way I do that we should be getting tickets. Do I smell a lawsuit in the making??? Easy for Heith to poo-p

Mass. Lottery ads still on radio two days after Cahill agreed to a halt
Radio spots from a million-dollar advertising blitz for the Massachusetts Lottery continued to run yesterday, two days after state Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, an independent gubernatorial candidate, said he would stop airing the taxpayer funded advertisements. A spokesman for the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission said the ads would cease by last night, adding that the process for killing a major ad campaign took some time. The lottery said the ads could not have been stopped immediately

What's with NY Sweet Million??
It's disgusting what goes on in families regarding money. In my situation, my brother and I purchased our family home from my Mom after my Dad passed away. My ex brother didn't want to invest in it when I offered him third ownership, and he agreed that my brother and I should purchase Mom's home. After the contracts were signed, and while we were waiting to close (about a year), the value of the house skyrocketed and two weeks before the closing my ex-brother calls and says he won't show up at t

What's with NY Sweet Million??
When the clerk didn't give me the freebie I was thinking, how could this be, the freebie ticket automatically comes out with the $5.00 one? (just as you posted). Then I thought maybe he failed to pick up the freebie ticket up along with the $5.00 one, but that couldn't be what happened because he asked the other clerk if the freebie was still in effect, and then he had to key something in the computer to generate another three lines. Since he gave me the free lines, I didn't think about it any f
