Some stores like selling lotto, some don't
Maybe the clerks don t like selling them but convenience store owners LOVE the lottery. I just read recently that 95% of people who go into a store to buy a lottery ticket also buy something else and, on average, spend over $10. In my state the association that represents gas stations and convenience stores lobbied hard against the state allowing online ticket sales because that would stop people from coming into the stores to purchase tickets. They were successful in stopping online sales.

Minnesota lottery officials try to salvage online sales
Minnesota State Lottery officials are scrambling to craft a last-ditch deal that would stop legislators from slamming shut the lottery's foray into online ticket sales. Lottery officials have been meeting daily with legislators to broker a compromise that would allow them to continue selling tickets online while prohibiting any new initiatives. I am hoping we can we reach some kind of common ground, state lottery director Ed Van Petten said. I think there is a chance that people will fina

Nothing seems farther away from the world of the smartphone, computer tablet and the future than the line at the grocery or convenience store to buy a lottery ticket. However, Terry Rich, president and chief executive officer of the Iowa Lottery, on Monday said the Iowa Lottery is not a stodgy outfit, and he said it is educating itself for a coming time when Iowa Lottery players likely will be able to purchase tickets for lotto games like Powerball and Mega Millions via phone, tablet or compu

Connecticut considers allowing online lottery ticket sales
Lawmakers are considering legislation that would move the Connecticut Lottery online for state residents. A bill raised by the legislature's Public Safety and Security Committee would allow for lottery tickets to be sold online through a licensed vendor. If the bill moves forward, Connecticut would be one of the few states in the country to offer online lottery tickets. It would also be one of the only states to sell online tickets through an outside vendor. I've never heard of this befor

The Future of Online Lottery Sales?
As it stands, anything over $599 must be claimed at the lottery office. Online wins over $599 can be simply be taxed the same way with the remainder credited to the winner in question. The Kentucky pick-3 pays $600, so I asked a Cashing Agent if winners had to fill out a W-2G and pay taxes and was told no because the cost of the ticket was deducted making the winnings $599. I've never been lucky enough to sign for any online horse racing winners over the max, but the site requires a SS numb

Michigan man wins $5.42M lottery jackpot with online purchase
Big Congrats to this Michigan lottery player! I SO WISH my state would implement online ticket sales. My car just broke down, possibly for the last time. It's only a 15 minute walk to the little store but I have a troubled ankle right now. Even when my car was running fine, I was wishing for online ticket purchasing. It would just be so convenient.
