DOJ reverses 2011 opinion of the Wire Act; legal online gaming in question
The U.S. Department of Justice's legal counsel office reversed a 2011 opinion that the Federal Wire Act applies only to sports betting, potentially throwing the small U.S. Internet gaming market into question.

New Mexico Lottery creating game tied to sports
The board that oversees the New Mexico Lottery voted unanimously Tuesday to move forward with creation of a game tied to the outcome of sporting events.
David Barden, the lottery CEO, said he expects the game to go on sale in four to six months.
Details of the game are being worked out, but it will involve a parlay-like wager. A player will pick possible outcomes of at least three sporting events and will have to choose all correctly to win.

First sports betting licenses issued by West Virginia Lottery
Legalization of sports betting in West Virginia has reached another milestone, with the issuing of the first sports betting licenses by the state Lottery Commission.
That includes the first casino operator's license, issued to Hollywood Casino, in Charles Town.
They are the first casino licensed to offer sports betting, Danielle Boyd, legal counsel for the Lottery Commission, said Monday. They are committed to going live at Charles Town and accepting bets on Sept. 1.

All Delaware Wawa stores adding self-service lottery machines
Fans of the Delaware Lottery can finally get a lottery ticket with their Wawa coffee or hoagie. And they can spend the time it takes to fill their gas tank by scuffing up a scratch-off.
The state has been installing machines at Wawa sites throughout the First State and has finished about half of the more than 40 Delaware stores. By June 10, Wawa thinks every Delaware store will be outfitted with the new self-service kiosks.

U.S. Supreme Court overturns federal sports-wagering ban
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal law that bars gambling on individual sporting events in most of the country, in a ruling likely to unleash a race among the states to attract billions of dollars in legal wagers.
Ruling in a New Jersey case, the court said the 1992 law unconstitutionally forced states to maintain laws that ban gambling. Nevada is the only state where single-game wagering is now legal.

Georgia Gov. signs bill allowing lottery winners to remain anonymous

Georgia has joined a small but growing number of states that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
On Monday Georgia governor Nathan Deal signed a bill allowing lottery winners with prizes over $250,000 to keep their identity secret upon request.
Prior to this point, Georgia state law required disclosure of big lottery winners' names and hometown be disclosed if requested under the state's Open Records Act, but did not require them to take photographs with oversize

Minnesota family wins first Lotto America jackpot worth $22.8 million
Debbie Kujava stopped at a Holiday convenience store in Roseau, Minn., to buy a Diet Sunkist after work on March 13.

Georgia group fights to prevent lottery winners from claiming anonymously
An open-government advocacy group has denounced a bipartisan proposal being considered by the Georgia Senate that would allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The Georgia First Amendment Foundation said in a statement that the proposed legislation raised transparency concerns. Clearly, letting a government agency hand out millions of dollars to private citizens with no public record is a bad idea, the group's statement said.
