Mega Millions set a new 1 roll record for the July 29 draw. The new 1 roll record is $15 million. The previous record was $13 million. The 1 roll record for Powerbal is $16.2 million.

The starting level for the Mega Millions jackpot was also a record at $12 million. The starting level used to be $10 million for Mega Millions and $5 million for The Big Game. The starting level for Powerball is $10 million and will change to $15 million next month.

Good luck,
Jake

It has to start at 12 million Jake649 when someone hits a jackpot in previous draw because of the CA plays MM. Lets hope this rollover makes it go past 363+ million and 1 winning ticket occurs.

Nope. I'm predicting it will get hit at under 100 million this time.

I thought it was going to hit this time.  Those looks like really good numbers.  IMO  I have my PB playslip ready for tomorrow and I matched 4+1!!!!!!  That's freaky.

How are you going to win if you don't play?

It's up to 23 million for Tuesday's MM after no one hit the MM jackpot for Friday 7/30/05 everyone.

Mega Millions set a new 2 roll record for the Aug 2 draw at $23 million. The previous record was $20 million. The 2 roll record for Powerball is $24.2 million.

At his rate, it looks like Mega Millions will continue to set new records after each roll until it is won.

                Good luck,

New matrix with more numbers, more states, more players = new records.

                      Jake,

Thanks for keeping us updated on these stats.  It's interesting to see how the rollovers compare to the pre-Cali days.

I agree. I really look forward to Jake's stats when the MM jackpot starts to climb, and especially now that we have a new matrix and another state added. Keep the stats coming...

Mega Millions set a new 3 roll record for the Aug 5 draw at $32 million. The previous record was $29 million. The 3 roll record for Powerball is $33.2 million.

The 1 roll record through to the 6 roll record for Powerball are higher than Mega Millions. Starting at the 9 roll level, the Mega Millions records are higher.

                          Good luck,
                          Jake

The jackpots may be going up at a record rate, but players are apparently not happy with the new matrix.

According to unofficial MM sales data posted at lottoreport.com, total sales dropped from about $49 million on July 22 to about $14 million on July 26, when the jackpot dropped to $12 million.

Sales went up by about $855 thousand on July 29 when the jackpot rose to $15 million.

Sales on Aug 2, with a jackpot of $23 million,  went down about $295 thousand.

Usually a higher jackpot prompts increased sales, but not this time.

California and Washington were the only states that had sales increases, when compared to the week before.

Not every time.  When there are lower jackpots Friday's drawings do usually sell more then the next Tuesday's.  I believe this is because people get paid on Friday's and its the weekend.
