Nice win. Hope you find some more..

I decided I am done with the lottery. Maybe not permanently but def for awhile. I am not even leaving out of disgust. I had some time to think about the possible attainable prizes.  How many people here won over $10K on an instant? How many people won over $1k and less than $10k? I would say over $10K  I can count on 1 hand. I would say $1,001-$10k would be less than 10.

If we say $10K is the highest attainable realistic prize. That would be $7kish after taxes.. Good down payment on a car or pay off bills, but $7k goes fast. Now think of how fast you can easily spend $7k on tickets. I know alot of times I spend $100 at a time. Well 70 of those gets me to $7k. Just starting to see it is not worth the gamble except $5 here or $20 there and hope for the best

Just wanted to wish every good luck. Sorry for the ramble, but I had to get my thoughts on paper. I will keep checking back, but the ATM card is staying at home, so there will be no lottery tix in my near future.

Surprised and happy to say I won $100 on the raffle.

Shocked to see my number on the list.

Good going Lee on the $100 raffle ticket win..we didn't win at all..hubby bought 4

I hear you omiller..I think someone just wrote how the lottery makes 70 percent of their money off scratch off's..and I think that really made me realize how much money we put into it and never get even half of it back..

I know I have been playing for about 4 years now, and I have never won $1000 or more..I did win $500 a couple of times..but that is as high as I have ever won..poor matt hasn't even won that..

Even if I won $30,000 it wouldn't pay me back for what I've put into it..so I sure hope that money we have all spent did do good for senior citizens..like they say..

I played 2255 today st. and boxed and 2254 hit...i just can't win for losing..so I too play very sparingly anymore..i don't chase wins at all anymore.

I know it is a gamble and the odds are stacked against you..but I still say they changed the tickets and they make way more off of us then they used too..we do enough to see it..

Maybe if we all wise up and spend less on them..then they will change them back to the way they used to be...there are more frustrated people in the stores now scratching than happy...

          Good luck everyone..

Thats my thought. I had a more long winded post typed, but cut it down. Basically I can take $200 to the casino 2-3 times a year. spend $600. Thats normally 4-6 weeks for me(if not less). In my 18 years of Instants, I only won $1k once. Maybe 3-5 $500's. I been to the casino less than 10 times and hit $3300 on a $2.50 max bet nickel machine(2nd pull), plus the money lasts me a good hour or two. Most times if I get something decent on a slot, I will print the ticket and put it in my other pocket. Once I am out of cash I see how many tickets I have and cash out. Then I decide if I been there long enough and split or play alittle more. Generaly I am there an hour-two and come home with some money. They say slot machines pay out from 80-99%. Lets say 80%. I can play $100 and then get back $80 . I play that $80 and get back $64, then $51  and so forth. You can see how this should allow you to keep playing for awhile.

It just really got me thinking last night, that I really dont have fun on scratch offs and trying to find anything over $1k is a waste of time. I actually have fun at the casino walking from machine to machine and trying them out. I didn't play today and only played $37 yesterday, so I def wasn't writing it after a huge loss. There is a part of me that would love to know how much I spent on lottery and then there is a part of me that would be afraid to know over the years.

I agree with what you said about changing them. Everyone I talked to from store owner to anyone I get chatting with at a machine says the same. They are much worse then they use to be and that takes the fun out. Scratch offs use to be like the casino to me. You could have fun and make your money last awhile. Even though I never hit big between 1997(my $500 win)-2012(my $1k win with only 1-$200 in that stretch that was above $100). I still seemed to have alot more smaller hits. $50 here and there, hitting every 3rd ticket, never feeling like you chased cause a win was only a ticket or two away. Now I am afraid to buy more than2- $20 tickets at a time. I know if I buy 3-4 and lose I will want to go back and chase eventhough in the whole pack there won't be anything higher than $100.

I think I now wrote a novel. Hopefully people here keep hitting and someone finds that elusive $50K or higher ticket!!!! Good luck

I bought four tickets sporadically, all losers. Only won a prize ($100) one time, the last Christmas one.

Omiller I had these same thoughts this weekend. I don't think it is worth it any more. I would have too hit at least $100, 000 or more to be happy & what are the chances of getting that?  I am I'm my I want to quit phase as well!

Thanks for the candid post omiller...

I thought I was the only one that felt this way... watching folks post $100, $500, $1K winners here and wondering what I was doing wrong.

I recently called it quits too... we'll see how long it lasts, but this time seems different for me...

Your casino analogy is a good one... at least you get a little back and can play a little longer... seems lately with scratchers, the more you give, the more they take.

Good luck everybody and hope you hit the winning tickets that I may have snagged if I was still in the marketWink

                        Hi, omiller

Thank you for your post. I understand what you mean. I stopped playing scratch tickets some time ago.  In 10 years of playing, I only won $500 and $800. I will still ocassionally buy a $1 ticket, so if I win $20 or more, I'm thrilled.

I now play Pick 4, which is still extremely hard to win. Two years ago, I won $8100 (put $3 on one number). After that win, I just knew I would win constantly...LOL. Since then the most, I have won is $500 on a Pick 3.

I keep coming back because I can't win if I don't play. I enjoy the challenge. I would enjoy the challenge more if I got the prize more, of course.

$$ provides more freedom, options and choices.
