N.C. Powerball winner's fiancé jailed for third time this year

After the Big Win

By Todd Northrop

The man engaged to the North Carolina woman who claimed a Powerball lottery jackpot share worth $188 million earlier this year was placed back in jail for the third time in less than a year on Monday.

Lamarr Andre McDow, also known as "Hot Sauce," was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

A spokeswoman for the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office said that McDow turned himself in after being indicted on the charge. He was processed out of the jail a short time later.

Last November, McDow was arrested on heroin charges. While he was behind bars, Marie Holmes, McDow's fiancé, was one of three winners who split a $564 million Powerball jackpot. Holmes's share was worth $188 million, and she took home $88 million after taxes when she decided to take the lump sum. (See N.C. Powerball lottery winner claims share of jackpot worth $188 million, Lottery Post, Feb. 24, 2015.)

Prosecutors said Holmes paid McDow's $3 million bond just a week after her lottery win.

In July, McDow was arrested a second time for violating the terms of his curfew after his March release.

When deputies went to pick McDow up at the home that he shares with Holmes, they smelled marijuana and found a gun that belonged to him. Holmes and several other people in the home were cited for possession. (See $188 million lottery winner arrested on marijuana charges, Lottery Post, July 27, 2015.)

Shortly after his arrest, he was released from jail on a $6 million bond.

(See NC lottery winner spent $9M bailing out convict fiancé, Lottery Post, Aug. 15, 2015.)

Holmes, who at the time of her lottery claim planned to use the winnings to open college funds for her four children, as well as buy a new house, is unfortunately heading down the same life path as numerous other big winners who did not successfully manage their windfall.

9 million in bail money this year to date!  Hasnt had her winnings for a year yet and has spent 10%+ on bail money alone.  At this rate will be broke in less than 5 years.

Marie Holmes gave 10% to her Church. Where are they now?   She mentioned in a previous post that she loved her Grandmother. What would her Grandmother say to her now? Is there anyone helping her today?

Remember, if a person is arrested again while out on bail the bail money is forfeited!  Additionally, if he doesn't show up for a court appearance the money is forfeited also. Seems it won't be a permanent get out of jail free card because the money she is spending on bail will be gone!  Ironically the patch on the shirt in the picture says it all!!

They want that girls lottery winnings so they keep arresting her man and they know she's going to bail him out.  Hot sauce should get his life together and they should move! This is all a ploy to make us look bad and leave her broke!

While we may think she's stupid we have no clue as to what is not being reported! I actually feel like the city is being predatory!  He seems to had been working when she won! So was he still trafficking drugs or was he on probation for it, who knows how long before?  If he felt like he needed a weapon, in most likely his home, who knows maybe he's being threatened and want to protect his family, what are the stipulation behind having a gun for a felon in their home? Somebody is jealous in all this, look at the bail amount, mass murderers get less! They should leave that town, you never know whats really going on!

No, he had been in jail for almost 4 months by the time she won the jackpot.  He was arrested in November 2014, and she won at the end of February 2015.  That is included in the news story if you check it out.

A more reasonable explanation for this whole thing is that the guy ("Hot Sauce") was/is a criminal, and she has the bad judgement to stay with him. And she has four kids too, so she also has the bad judgement to keep her kids with the criminal.

Once she had $88 million in "FU" money, she should have straightened her life out and started from scratch.  Just my opinion.

Yeah I'd venture to say she makes lottery winners look bad like David Lee Edwards did.

At least he moved on up to a nice neighborhood.  I heard she still lives in a trailer or something like that...wth? Maybe that's better anyway because of Hot Sauce.  If she had a nice house & there was a drug raid the government could take it away.

He was in jail for distribution of heroin since November 2014.  She bailed him out after she won.  He violated curfew so that bail was revoked and he got a second bail.  Now he is being charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. She bailed him out again.

No way?  Way!  From this article: McDow faces charges of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

That was when the cops arrested him for violating the terms of his bond.  His original arrest was for drug trafficking.  This arrest was for possession of a firearm.  While I can't recall the particulars, it seems like the pistol was registered to someone else but his prints were on it, hence the "possession" charge. I'm sure he and his lawyer were informed of the possibility of other charges being filed in the future and since he turned himself in, I'm sure he was expecting this. (or at least his lawyer had advised him;  it's apparent his client is not the sharpest knife in the drawer)

While it might seem the police have a vendetta against him, a grand jury is responsible for the indictment.   A jury is supposed to be made up of one's peers, but I doubt there were any human stain heroin dealers on the panel.  The GJ is simply doing their duty and bringing charges, good for them!

Yes, she should move, but since he's a felon pending trial, I'm sure there's a limit as to just where he can move.  I'm betting his next move will be to one of these places.

Someone want to explain to me how this guy keeps violating the terms of his release but instead of just putting him in jail, where all other violators go, they just keep on increasing how much his bond is set at? Who gets a $3M/$6M bond? What were his bonds before this?

Fine, he's in a relationship with a multi-millionaire, so they might have a point setting the bail high...initially. But then he got arrested AGAIN. Why was he not put in jail? No bond. It's as if they said, "we know he's going to commit another crime, so let's make some money while we're at it."

As for her, I'll reserve further judgment on her level of idiocy until I see whether or not she pays to bond him out of this latest situation. You'd think that since she got arrested with him the last time she would have told him to shape up or ship out. Obviously the cops are keeping an extra close watch on both of them, how stupid can a person be to keep doing things they KNOW will get them arrested. She's a beautiful woman who apparently thinks she owes this guy something. With her sporadic employment and 4 kids, I'm betting he was the one supporting them. But at this $6 million (or $600,000) mark, I'd say that debt has been paid in full. She needs to get out of the trailer park, move somewhere safe for her kids' sake, and use what sense the Lord gave her to turn herself around.

So many people need financial help in a bad way and she took this miracle and is just wasting it. It's a hard thing to witness.

She did move out of the trailer park and into a decent modest house in a safe neighborhood, but she brought her troubles and dirt with her.  Doesn't matter whether she lives in a mansion or trailer, they are going to keep a close eye no matter what as long as she continues living in that State/City.

And my profession isn't in law but I thought when you violate your bond you get locked up and the bond is forfeited. At least that's been the situation with the few people I know who got in trouble with the law for something much minor.

And she probably can't leave him without him retaliating. Drug dealers will make your life a living hell and possibly end it if you betray them.

Now I have been called everything under the sun.  Wasnt aware that by living in NC, I am automatically a BIGOT.  please, no name calling.  We should all be adults here....

just by living in NC doesn't mean we're bigots but we sure do have more than our fair share.

Please find a corner to grow up in.

I wasn't calling you or the entire State a bigot. If I've offended you I'm sorry, but get thicker skin. I don't mince my words for calling out the lunacy in NC and what's happening with Marie Holmes, though she isn't totally innocent and I feel she brought a lot of this on her self. We are all grown and we are all entitled to our own opinion so please let me express mine freely like everyone has and please stop being the PC police.

Please find a rock to crawl back under.

Liar.  You said this in an earlier post:

North Carolina is clearly known for being a bunch of bigots, no surprise here.

Stereotyping is a form of bigotry.

I'm sure there are more bigots here than in N.C.;  bigger state, larger population.  I'm sure the percentages are about the same for any state.

Then again, you're not too good at critical thinking, are ya B2B?  I'm sure if you ever moved out of N.C., the avg. IQ in that state would go up a measurable amount.

And this would be a perfect example of members acting like children you were so quick to point out.

I don't recall asking anyone to care, I asked for them to question what is going on in this case, because it makes no sense. Quit being a douche.

You are correct in saying thay we are entitled to our opinion.  But please keep in mind that your rights end wher another persons rights begin.  Having given up my rights to serve and defend our constitution, I understand and appreciate our rights better than most.  You have the right to punch someone in the nose but they also have the right to punch out your lights if you do so ....  The same principle was at play during the cold war.

now back to the original topic.  I apologize for going off subject.  The law enforcement in that area are treating him the same as others.  Bail is set based on your access to funds.  If you were to have no access and are not a flight risk, repeat felon, etc, your bail would be set at the minimum.  But as those factors increase so does the bail amounts.  If you dont understand this simple principle, please by all means research it.  You will find that the process is the same in Ohio, Ky hawaii, etc....  This felon has access to millions, so his bail has been set accordingly. Yes, since he has prior convictions he is a felon.

have a great day ladies and gentlemen, and to all others as well, :D??

I'm glad she left the trailer. that's something at least, but trouble is going to find her wherever she goes if she keeps in contact with the very people who are causing the trouble. And it really doesn't seem to me that he's some big team drug kingpin or criminal mastermind. She can leave and get him out of her life if that's what she really wanted. She needs to move to a different state and start over. She has the money to do so, but apparently not the will.

A lot of this is her fault, but it seems the state is less interested in justice and more interested in making money from the situation. I have never heard of anyone violating the terms of their bond and not getting locked up automatically. Instead they simply gave him another bond. It smells fishy.

It's going to suck really badly if she ends up as another David Lee Edwards.

Oh, I doubt it.  I'm not a genius, but I could spot you 20 IQ points and still be ahead of you by a substantial amount.

You are definitely the dimmest bulb in this forum...and that's saying a lot, B2B.  So far I haven't been stupid enough to get banned and if I ever do, I wouldn't be dumb enough to come back with a paper-thin transparent identity.

Well you're right about one thing....you're definitely not a genius. Nobody on earth would ever call you that. Lol so come up with some more names and insults I mean really show off that low brow Texas education. We all just love it when you prove what people say about the good old boy state when you shoot your mouth off like you do

I think he was supporting her too with the drug money and i also think he's the Father to 1 or more of those kids.

And who started slinging insults first? ( I was defending N.C. in my reply to someone else.  Try to keep up, B2B)

"We"? Is that the "imperial we" or do you have a frog in your pocket?  Besides being smarter than you (which is, granted, a low standard to surpass), I have many more friends in here than you.   I also have a better grasp of grammar.  "Low brow"?  You're projecting.  Oh... and it's "good ol' boy", too...and while I know you meant it as an insult, it's really a compliment.   Thanks.

N. Carolina is a lovely state with some good people (you and "Hot Sauce" excluded)  but it's too bad you're one of those who would hate wherever you lived. (probably because your neighbors hate you...which is understandable)  It's also sad that you have an inferiority complex in regards to the great state of Texas.  What's the matter?  Your wife run off with a rodeo clown from Amarillo? An aluminum siding salesman from Lubbock?  Maybe it was a roughneck from Wichita Falls?    She probably doesn't like sockpuppets, either.

On  a slightly different topic, however it is Powerball.  I noticed that it went over $100 million and still only went up to $110 million.  One LP poster wrote it would go up quite a bit once it hit $100 million.  My fears came to be and unfortunately I was correct.  Make it twice as hard to win the big one and still trickle the jackpots upwards.

Powerball has jumped the shark !

We'll have to wait til MM gets hit to see if players chase the bigger JP.

no red stand "hotsauce "  is not the father of any of Marie Holmes kids  .I guess if children services were to take away her children and the fathers wanted custody she would have to pay each one child support .They ceratinly need to step in and address the situation  because Marie Holmes is not making wise decisons.Anyone that bails out someone three times has shown she cannot handle her new found wealth and losing ot all may be a good option.(Bought sense ) as my Grandmother would say .

i think Marie Holmes  will not change  for the better  either.   By the time she realizes all of the  foolish things she has done running behind some no good man instead of being a mother it will be to late.Back to being  destitute and another statistic of a lottery winner that lost it all.
