Book: Money For Nothing
Every situation is different. However, the more I think about the cash option, I more I prefer it. I used to think that it made sense to take the annuity payments, especially if someone is afraid of making a bad investment or spending it frivolously. Knowing every year you'll be receiving a check must be a comforting feeling. However, so many things can happen, that maybe taking the lump sum is best. It's also better for my beneficiaries when I die, but it depends on the amount too. If I o

Powerball & Megamillions Growing
OMG, again with the cap talk. People, the PowerBall isn't capped at $390M. If it rolls to $375M, there will be a cap of $400M. You people need to look at the INCREASE cap. Also, I think some of you are becoming obsessed with the cash value argument. It's already been discussed that PowerBall and Mega Millions each have their advantages. There's nothing wrong with someone taking the annuity option. You people need to be less comparative with these 2 games. They're not run by the same organization

Fresh Questions Anybody?
I'm not sure it's fair to list cash vs annuity as a recurring question. I think it's the same one and just won't die. It fades away for a couple of days, but then somebody (and I'm not naming names) brings it up again.

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
They actually work very hard to get bidders with the highest rates, because doing so will make the annuity jackpot higher, which in turn drives more sales. It's not like MUSL executives are hoping to pay out a lower cash jackpot, and they pocket the difference or something. They pay out whatever there is, in its entirety.
In fact, Chuck Strutt (head of MUSL) posted several messages at Lottery Post describing exactly how they calculate the annuity, based upon how much cash they have. (Not t

bringing up past topics for new members
Depends how old the topic is. Sometimes it's still in the first three pages and NOT ok. If it's not a recent topic then it's ok. Otherwise new people couldn't talk about those perennial topics like cash vs annuity or are all lottery winners stupid .

The All States debate is kind of like the Cash vs. Annuity debate: it will never be settled, because both sides have good points. However, that's what makes it a good feature: it can be used by those who love it, and it can be turned off by those who don't.Because the feature can be ignored by people who don't like it, I personally don't understand when people have animosity against the feature. Maybe someone can explain it to me in rational terms, because I just don't get it.

Gang used winning Pick 4 lottery tickets to launder drug money
HAPPY TUESDAY..........NOVEMBER.....1STHEY CASH CARRY............I have an impatient heart. I feel that it's bad enough that the Board puts us thru the basic waiting period to verify the Winning Ticket, but I'd hate to think we'd have to wait several weeks thru an unnecessary background Check ..and, on top of all that, we don't even get half of what we win.Steve West will not recieve 50% of that $340,000,000.00....the Fed State taxes will, together eat up more than 50% of the original figur

Is a 400 million jackpot possible?
Um, I wouldn't be so sure of beating the annuity, at least not without making risky investments. Taken from Powerball FAQ:CASH VS. ANNUITY - MY FINANCIAL EXPERTS SAYS HE CAN EARN MORE THAN THE ANNUITY WITH THIS CASH.We have seen that even financial experts forget about taxes. From the example above, if the winner takes the cash, then the winner will have to pay state and federal taxes on the cash amount. The amount of income tax will vary, but it will likely be somewhere close to half the cas

Cashier giving me Cash Option
I think that is the very reason to check all tickets while you are still at the register. Can't you give them back in TX and tell them there is an error? Don't understand why you would keep them if you specified annuity.Do you have bet slips? Fill them out and check off annuity. No errors that way. Also you might want to check here for other benefits of cash vs annuity.https://www.lotterypost.com/thread/121188.htm
