Wild Thought, Lottery Post Having a Convention?
This idea of a convention comes up every so often. People here can't agree on quick picks vs self picks, cash option vs annuity, and holding or not holding a news conference if given the choice (anonymous if allowed, or not). You think they'd agree on a location for such a convention?

Why not choose the annuity?
Thanks Stack I agree, most folks may not realize that a 100 million annuity does not = 100 million cleared after taxes over 30 yrs.... not even close. I was referring to purchasing power in 2044 with 4 million... 1 dollar today being worth half that or less in 2044 type of thing... maybe I got it backwards I'm sure most financial advisers would definitely recommend cash as they stand to make much more money vs managing the trappings of an annuity for their client. Hopefully that good ad

Georgia's "Win For Life" game ending
Correction. I had the extra ball as well so I think I won $30 x 5 for $150. This is the most I ever won. I had 1-11-14-16-26-33. I may have to post a pic of this ticket. PS: They also changed the number of winning tickets you can have for the JP. It used to be up to 5, now it is 2 max. for a max prize of 2 million if you take the lump sum vs the annuity. This is new info. *Top-prize winners in Win for Life can select the annuity of $1,000 per week for life or a one-time cash option of $1 m

My 1st post interesting, but also depressing
Good post, Shelby Mustang, thanls for posting it. In the threads here about taking the annuity vs the cash option things like this are discussed and it's hard to convince people that what may sound like an annual fortune now may not by a house - or a car! - by the time the last check is received. In the early 1970's Mercury sold an import car called the Capri and for several years running it was advertised as The sexy European for under $2300.

Annuity or Lump Sum?
Thanks for the reply. It's an interesting dicsussion! I'm starting my first full time job this July and I've been doing alot of reading up on retirement investing and the financial services industry. And it seems that it's hard to find a fiduciary (someone who is legally obligated to look out for your best interests instead of their own) who can really do well with your money. I agree that if you know exactly what you're doing you can be doing very welll and definitely beat the annuity.

$320 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot goes through the roof
I find it odd and a little funny that some of you here seem to think that once you win a lottery jackpot of this size that you're supposed to place it in the bank, leave it there (don't touch!) and go about your life normally, as you are living now. Nobody suggested that you blow through your money that's for idiots like David Edwards. We are talking about things we would do if we won, which is the entire point of playing in the first place. To buy and do things you would never have been abl

$325 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot goes through the roof
The default powerball jackpot is already around 18 million after taxes. It's 40 million starting jackpot for the annuity option, roughly 30 mil for the cash option, then take into account federal and state taxes and that takes you to around 18 million. As far as being excited for every jackpot, keep in mind each ticket is $2 and the chances for matching 5+ mega in the current powerball matrix is astronomically high against you. The jackpot needs to be over $150 million for most people to get

Lotto Maxims
Wasn't any need for sarcasm off or on, I'm talking eons beyond politics, I am talking lotto. Just consdier the stinger threads here on LP regarding the lottery, QP vs PP (Player Picks). Take the Illinois Pick 5 game, I use it as an example because it's drawn every day. 119 jackpots paid so far this year, 104 of the winners played a QP (includes shared jackpots). Think that convinces any of the anti-QP crowd anything? Think again. Then how about anonymous or not, annuity or cash option, et

Vacationing man wins $1M scratch-off lottery jackpot
Congratulations to the winner, I hope that you will have enough to not only pay off your mortgage and purchase a new car, but also be able to enjoy additional expendatures. I am not sure if the states that do these 'unpublished' annuitized $1M, $2M, and $3Million dollar prizes are counting on people's stupidity or what. Many people play these annuitized jackpot prizes though, since some people track odds and they appear better than on-line games. I know that in Illinois, I go to the state's
