Mega Millions $252,000,000.00
music, This goes way back but a woman in NJ won the jackpot twice and now lives in a mobile home on her social security check. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////// All, Here's some interesting information from Money Crashers on cash vs annuity, and as often as it's been discussed here on LP there's one thing I've never seen discussed (I'll bold it) 'belly up' ......sounds far fetched but considering some stunts lotteries have pulled, like Illinois not paying win

It now appears certain that Megamillions will go 6 months...
i rather liked how powerball turned out going by must recent draws 7th draw powerball was at 63,500,000 cash jan 19th 7th draw for MM = 41,000,000 cash jan 11th cant compare the Annuity ,there so diff but 2 buck price point has proven it self ............. and mega millions can quickly catch up and go beyond sometimes if it ever gets higher, come 200/300m range as it sure set record back in late 2011 /early 2012 run that set the world record has proven i

How would you design a game so more people win?
can't be done , the must simple thing your asking for is already here its called, raffle games everyone gets a ticket and their a lot more top winners the real issue is this, You Cant have the sells of powerball and mega millions giving a small army of winners WITHOUT the Large singe jackpot , this is reality, We Are Greedy, We See Big Numbers, We Buy More People don't spend money on lottery games if they SEE LOW NUMBERS powerball has already tryed to pass the winning

28 most common questions about Powerball
From the Powerball website. A couple of them are below, all 28 are listed on the link. I'm putting this in Lottery Discussions and not Jackpot Games because I'm sure at least a few of them apply to all lotteries: CAN I REMAIN ANONYMOUS WHEN I HIT THE JACKPOT? All but three states (DE, KS, ND) have laws that require the lottery to release the name and city of residence to anyone who asks. One state (SC) will keep your name secret if you request it, but if someone files a Fre

This question might have been answered
So, lets say someone on here hits, lets say I hit not the jackpot, I hit only 5 numbers on megamillions. Yes keep laughing. I see that most people will take the cash vs annuity unless they want to hide something. it depends. I know what usamega says, might have to look. I might have to ask another accountant I know or someone else. What is the remainder after taxes from that state are taken out? So the payment amt is $1 million. ( multiplier 2 3 4 5) i'm not ta

Does the size of the lottery jackpot matter to you?
They keep getting ungrateful and raising the odds on the games so I now wait before I jump in. I have been playing so long without winning that I view increasing odds as an attack on loyal players. My jackpot limits are $400,000,000 for Powerball and $150,000,000 for Mega Millions because the more they raise the odds the more I expect to lose. The Powerball second prize isn't so great anymore given the $2 or $3 ticket price vs the Mega Millions second prize being decent for $2

Mega Millions ponderously reaches $280 million
Lottery Post analyzes the multi-state jackpot's slow 3-month ascent By Todd Northrop Normally a $280 million jackpot would prompt even lottery skeptics to consider buying a ticket, but for some reason Mega Millions players have been forced to endure tepid sales that are inching the game's jackpot upward at a snail's pace. So lottery players looking to win a life-changing mega jackpot can be excused for asking the contradictory questions, What's wrong with Mega Millions? and, Where can I

Powerball outmuscles Mega Millions in sales, jackpots
Powerball is on a roll. Wednesday's annuity jackpot got to be gigantic $252 million by leaving the main rival in the dust. Both grew for 11 drawings, but the top prize in Mega Millions rose only to $143 million Tuesday night. When states began selling both lotteries on Jan. 31, observers wondered how they'd fare head to head. The verdict seems to be in. Powerball is Coke, Hertz, Muhammad Ali. Mega Millions is Pepsi, Avis, Joe Frazier. In Pennsylvania, a Powerball state for year

Wisconsin factory workers win $208M Powerball lottery
I see what both of you are saying, but I agree with Coin Toss. Many states won't even bother paying more than one claimant. That's why in most cases it's best to create a trust and appoint a trustee. As far as choosing annuity vs lump sum, I know it can be mathematically calculated, but I'm almost willing to be the states won't do it. Powerball has had groups of winners where some pick annuity and others pick cash. Can you please post an example of this? I know that when there are

Muskegon resident wins Michigan Lottery's '$2,000,000 Fortune'
William Schad of Muskegon now knows what it's like to feel like a million bucks actually, in his case, two million bucks! He became the Michigan Lottery's newest millionaire on Friday, January 16, 2004 while participating in a mid-court drawing at halftime during the Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards NBA basketball game. No kidding! said Schad, upon learning he had been chosen as one of the five finalists for the Michigan Lottery's $2,000,000 Fortune grand-prize drawing. Holy moley! I
