Powerball $85 Million
Kristin,It's the first time I've ever seen them track so closely. However, they are deceptively different -- even though the advertised jackpots are the same, the cash options are much different. MM is $50 million cash vs. PB $46 million. The annuity jackpots are the same only because Powerball uses a longer payoff period (30 years) vs. MM's 26-year payoff.I'd rather win the Mega Millions jackpot right now!

MM Cash Value Exceeds Powerball
The Mega Millions cash value is now at $43 million, while Powerball's is at $41 million - and they both started at $10 million on the same draw cycle. Yet, Powerball still takes the top prize because of its longer annuity period (30 PB vs. 26 MM payments).Mega Millions would do well to extend their annuity period to 30 years, since they have now proved they have the horsepower to roll faster than Powerball. When the next (final?) big state signs on to Mega Millions, they're going to be a far ahe

Some input requested ... PLEASE
I've noticed that one of the more interesting questions seems to be Annuity vs. Cash.I have an interesting question. What about taking annuity over cash option THEN selling those payments to a doctor, lawyer or some company like J.G. Wentworth?Timmer

Powerball Jackpot Reaches $55 Million
How are those accountants at the Powerball Lottery calculate the jackpot's cash value? $55MM annuity vs. $30.1MM in cash option. You got to do better than that. Mega Millions $51MM brings you $30MM in cash. Where is the other $4MM going?

Annuity buyout programs
for who, just do a search using cash for structured settlements as keywords.for how much... it's the same as if you choose cash vs. annuity at the time of winning. you get today's value minus a processing fee... for a simple example, say you had 100,000,000 annuity ,you would probably get somewhere around 45,000,000.if your lottery gives you the option, take the cash and skip the middleman. Unless you feel you can't trust yourself with that much money and you are young enough... then the ann

Cash vs. annuity: Give it a break

Another CASH vs ANNUITY poll
Cash always beats annuity because of the net present value of the cash vs. the discount value against cash in the future. Annuities do not take into consideration the effect of inflation, and the annuity award would be diminished in buying power over time. However, taking cash would allow a wise investor to to make cashflow bearing investments that will better accrue over time as a hedge against inflation. In particular, Real Estate is a great investment becuase with net present dollars, the

Cash vs. annuity: Give it a break
Todd:I would welcome an _intelligent_ debate over the cash vs annuity issue. If someone believes annuity is better because you can't spend it all in one place , it implies that a lottery winner cannot handle a lump sum of millions of dollars. I consider that a LAME argument in favor of annuity, since many would get financial/legal/tax advice before getting the money.Someone who sells annuities or works for such a company might be pushing annuities even if the player/winner obviously would be b

Cash vs. annuity: Give it a break
Todd:Many of my posts have NOTHING to do with cash vs annuity; I would prefer showing everybody on this board my knowledge of lottery games around the US.It doesn't help that AIG keeps suggesting choose annuity - it's not his decision, or mine either. I of course feel that the player should take the cash AND THEN buy an annuity if they really want one.It would also help if _all_ US lotteries abided by the 60-day rule in which the cash/annuity choice is made AFTER you win.
