N.C. couple's winning lottery ticket purchased in S.C.
Dick Sandlin along with his wife, Colleen, arrived at the South Carolina Lottery's Columbia Claims Center 13 days after learning they held the winning $15 million Powerball jackpot ticket.
I called my CPA and a tax lawyer before we claimed the prize, said 79-year-old Dick, of Wilmington, NC. I'm still dreaming. I guess when I wake-up, I'll jump up and down.
Traveling from their summer home in Florida, Dick and Colleen purchased lottery tickets in every state along the way.

Detective Billy Royster, Aiken Public Safety, said the subject stole the tickets, each valued at $10, and then collected the money for the winners.

The S.C. lottery will likely offer its million dollar raffle game again, said Ernie Passailaigue, executive director.
The lottery awarded four prizes of $1 million and hundreds of other prizes Monday in the game that works just like a door-prize drawing.
The Carolina Millionaire Raffle game sold just over 900,000 of its $10 tickets and paid about $5.5 million in prizes, Passailaigue said.
We did not sell out, so I wouldn't say it was a raving success, Passailaigue said. It was a succ ...

S.C. only state with no lottery sales on Election Day
Reason for the law is unclear
South Carolinians can pick politicians and decide a slew of state issues Tuesday, but they can't elect to buy a lottery ticket or a bottle of booze.
State law prohibits the sale of both on statewide election days.
While a ban on selling liquor isn't unique to South Carolina, it is very likely that shutting down the state lottery is. And the reason lottery tickets are forbidden isn't nearly as clear as a banned bottle of vodka.
I think we're the only sta ...

N.C. lottery fraud trial puts S.C. Lottery under microscope
The federal trial of Kevin L. Geddings is probing as deeply into his pro-lottery work in South Carolina as it is into his activities leading up to his appointment last year to North Carolina's lottery commission.
And the evidence presented so far by prosecutors suggests they see a pattern of conduct payments to Geddings by lottery vendor Scientific Games in exchange for helping the company win lottery business.
Testimony and evidence show that creating a lottery in the Palmetto state ...

Lottery winner feels like he has a horseshoe in his behind
Harold Gray once lived on a street called Lottery Lane now he's a two-time lottery winner.
Gray won the top $100,000 prize Tuesday after buying a scratch-off lottery ticket in Beaufort County. The windfall came exactly 20 days after Gray won the $250,000 top prize in a different South Carolina scratch-off game.
''Hey, at least it's not a doctor or a lawyer with all the money. Poor people are getting some of it, too,'' said Gray, a self-employed contractor.

S.C. Lottery Stops Selling Number "666"
The South Carolina Educational Lottery has stopped selling tickets Tuesday with combiations with 666 in it. That means no more 6-6-6, 6-6-0-6, and 6-6-6-6.
Tuesday is of course June 6, 2006 or 06/06/06, if you're so inclined. And apparently, a lot of people are.
Lottery officials say they've reached their liability on selling the above numbers, meaning they wouldn't be able to pay out all the winners if those numbers should be drawn. The lottery says they have a $3.5 million cap on P ...
