The Powerball jackpot has rolled over.  The cash value of the jackpot is \$44M.  The advertised annuity value is \$93.0M.  Ninth draws average 21.134M in sales.  If the number of tickets that sell in the next drawing is average then the randomized probability of various numbers of winners will be as follows:

 0 86.53% 1 12.52% 2 0.91% 3 0.04%

The accuracy of the long term model is now off 5%, as compared to about 2% on the last draw.  Nevertheless, here is what it predicts for the long term evolution of the jackpot, ignoring minimums, caps and reserves:

Note that the last time, in error, I posted the long term probability starting from an eighth draw and not a seventh.  Thus the correct long term model function will look the same, with the numbers slightly adjusted to reflect the sales of the most recent drawing.

The model right now is showing itself being off by about 7% lower than the actual event, which is an unusally high inacurracy.  Still it is intended only to give a loose idea of the probability of the jackpot becoming very large.    The model ignores caps, which if I recall correctly is now set somewhere around \$390M.
